N1njaSquirrel Posted December 9, 2013 What are your favourite web comics? Boxerhockey (When it updates) and Sister Claire are pretty ace, in my opinion.
tegan Posted December 9, 2013 Gunnerkrigg Court: magic, technology, conspiracy, and British schoolchildren. Gunshow: KC Green is like the new R. Crumb or something. Cucumber Quest: basically like Paper Mario, but as a webcomic. Adorable. Blaster Nation: Dorks doin' dork stuff. I'm gonna' be honest and say I have no idea why I find this compelling. Paranatural: imagine if Bleach was good. Awkward Zombie: mostly video game jokes; some really good expressions. Broodhollow: Kris Straub's fantastic period piece horror comic. Nerd Rage: more video game jokes. Whomp: the most self-deprecating gag comic I've found in a long time. Also the only good use of a self-insert character. Fanboys: this one's been really weird lately, but it's ostensibly a decent video game humour thing. Manly Guys Doing Manly Things: manly video game jokes. Secret shame: Spinnerette: super cheesecakey superhero comic.
Bjorn Posted December 10, 2013 I used to read a bunch, but have really fallen behind over the last few months. Order of the Stick is the only one that I'm routinely keeping up with now. I did devour the entirety of Oglaf over the course of a couple of nights a few months ago. Oglaf is...well, NSFW is an understatement. It's kind of like hardcore porn meets an old-school D&D campaign, but with more humor and less arguing about the rules.

BadHat Posted December 11, 2013 Oh man I totally forgot I was trying to catch up with Gunnerkrigg again. Second the recommendation for that, Awkward Zombie and Oglaf. Three Word Phrase has jokes about butts and is funny as heck. Nedroid has less butts but is also funny. Chainsawsuit is more "heh" funny but I consistently appreciate his wit about dumb everyday things. I don't know why I still find Garfield Minus Garfield so entertaining/absurd/occasionally depressing. Lackadaisy Cats is really good if you don't have a weird complex about hating anthropomorphic characters since furries became a thing. The Meek would be really good too except he hasn't updated in over a year, yikes. His last update is depressingly ominous, too. :<
tegan Posted December 11, 2013 Oh man, I keep forgetting to re-bookmark Nedroid and Three Word Phrase. Those are two of my favourite gag comics.
Tanukitsune Posted December 13, 2013 Well, before I list every Webcomic I read ever... I'll give two: Widdershins: If you get the name you'll understand the inspiration for the comic. Menage a 3..... is one of the few webcomic I laugh AT and not with... This pandering harem comic is hilarious for all the wrong reason... does this make me a hipster? D: Oh what the hell: Scarygoround/Bobbins/Bad Machinery: It's actually better if you read it chapter by chapter, but I love it! Gastrophobia: If Xena had a kid... and lots of weird friends? Shortpacked or anything by David Willis: He killed my favorite character once... I think he's one of the best at comedy-drama "life" comics.
dium Posted December 13, 2013 Ah, David Willis. In middle school I regularly consumed It's Walky!* as if I needed it to maintain bodily homeostasis. *not linked because I don't actually recommend it. Unless you're <16 years old and crave something both sophomorically irreverent and indulgently angsty at the same time. His new stuff is pretty good though. Gormongous Posted April 10, 2014 Kate Beaton posted a long-form comic about her time working at a mining company. It's called Ducks and it's pretty fucking incredible. Incredible as in beautiful, not unbelievable, although a bit of that, too.
cyrix Posted April 10, 2014 http://strongfemaleprotagonist.com/ is great, read it form the start. JL8 is a great little strip in which the heros of the DC universe are reimagined as kids, it's done with a lot of love. http://limbero.org/jl8/archive Personal favorite: that strip requires some prior DC knowledge, the strip as a whole doesn't, but it helps. Incredible as in beautiful, not unbelievable, although a bit of that, too. This was amazing. I don't know why but I felt like I was reading some Ursula leguin. Mayhaps because nothing happened, yet everything happened.
tegan Posted April 10, 2014 I love that when JL8 finally got threatened with legal action, it was from professional baseball over the original "Little League" name and not from DC for use of their characters.

miffy495 Posted April 11, 2014 Living just South of there, having an uncle who still works there, and going to school at a university where the default way of paying tuition is "just go work in the 'sands for a few years", that hit pretty close to home. Fuckin' Alberta, man. I like Calgary, I like a lot of things about this city. The fact that it is ENTIRELY reliant on the oil from that fucking place to continue existing is not one of them. Kate's originally from the Maritimes, IIRC. Most guys from my hometown would move to Alberta after high school for just this. Seems like she did the same. cyrix Posted April 11, 2014 I love the phrase, "Cheese it!" It's possibly my favorite phrase of all time. Indeed, and it coming from Blue Beetle and Booster Gold makes it all the better.
Cleinhun Posted April 11, 2014 Does anyone else read The Last Halloween? It's a horror/comedy that has a good balance between things that are funny or at least lighthearted and things that are genuinely creepy. I've really been enjoying it.

osmosisch Posted April 16, 2014 My favourite currently-running webcomics are: Gunnerkrigg Court - children go to a school that is also a technomagical institute in the middle of a magical forest. Gorgeous art. Nimona - An evil genius and his shapeshifting sidekick. nicely subversive. Paranatural - Boy moves to town, finds out town is full of ghosts, joins paranatural activity club. Hilarious and so anime.
tegan Posted April 16, 2014 Osmosich, you should read recently-started print comic Lumberjanes. It's cowritten by Noelle Stevenson of Nimona fame and involves cool girls punching paranormal things.
cyrix Posted April 17, 2014 JL8 and Strong Female Protagonist are both fantastic. Thanks! I'm really glad that someone read SFP I was kinda worried that it got lost in my post above that eye catching JL8 strip. A ton of great stuff in this thread.
