SuperBiasedMan Posted April 24, 2015 I'm surprised there was 2 more, it felt like the third was such an ending to round out the story and philosophy. I gotta reread em now that I'm less of a childish fool.
Bjorn Posted April 24, 2015 I don't read much urban fantasy, but I like the Watch novels because I enjoy the workman like optimism in the face of crushing disillusionment that's present in some Russian works, similar to how I feel about the Metro games. I remember really enjoying Book 4. It gets into Merlin, what it means to be a 0-level other, the nature of the Twilight and a bunch of other stuff. Usually explaining those things takes the mystery out of fantasy, but in this case I felt it actually made the whole lore/world stronger.
Valorian Endymion Posted April 24, 2015 Since steam is having a Rogue-like sale, can I make a recommendation? One Way Heroics, its a very good game with a amazing catch - you have allways keep moving or the darkness will catch you so you need to think very well before moving because you can´t go back. Its not a very long game which make it a great game to play in short time, but does have lot of options and stuff to unlock in each run.
SuperBiasedMan Posted April 24, 2015 Yeah I'm generally very uninterested in fantasy but the tone and world those books had really did something for me. And the power structure and societal organisation felt organic and real rather than a fantastical and whimsical concoction that couldn't conceivably work in any real world. eot Posted April 25, 2015 In case you hadn't heard, Valve and Bethesda now allow mod makers to sell their Skyrim mods on the Steam workshop. A lot of people are upset about the revenue split (25/25/50, modder/Valve/Beth) but I think the problem is allowing it at all. I don't want capitalism everywhere, it's not always for the better. It'll turn a collaborative community into a competitive market, maybe in Valve's utopia that'll mean professional game developers making Skyrim mods for a living, but maybe it'll mean people charging for unofficial bug fixes to a broken game. Sure, it's great that people can make money off of something popular they built, but you know what it's also okay to do something because you enjoy it and other people appreciate it. I haven't played Skyrim since the winter it came out, so it doesn't affect me personally, but I'm strongly against it on principle. This "monetise all the things!" direction Valve have been going in makes me uncomfortable, and as great as Steam workshop is it's also problematic in giving Valve even more control over everything PC gaming. eot Posted April 28, 2015 Another Tuesday, another Humble Bundle I forgot to buy. I don't know why I have such a strong compulsion to wait until the last moment when I always end up forgetting.

natellite Posted May 5, 2015 I'm pretty sure this isn't worth making its own thread for, but I've been playing agar.io basically nonstop today in between classes. It's basically online multiplayer Osmose, or the first level of Spore played with dozens of other people at the same time. You pick your own name, so naturally people are using slurs of every flavor - so, you know, consider yourself warned. But man, it's fun.
Griddlelol Posted May 5, 2015 Wow, that game is weirdly fun. I just got shouted at by my boss for playing that.
dartmonkey Posted May 6, 2015 3DS loaded with great stuff...but I can't stop playing the baseball minigame in Link Between Worlds. On 172 - determined to break 200. Anybody ever been obsessed with an inconsequential minigame in a 'proper' game? The last one I can remember was the Rambi game in DK64. Played that to death and beyond. jennegatron Posted May 6, 2015 I've gotten super into the casino games in the Pokemon games before, and will periodically fall down the deep deep hole of fake Pokemon when I go back to World of Warcraft. I also got super into the higher/lower game in Harvest Moon for the DS. I watch mostly walking every week, a show by Day9 on twitch where he and 2 of his former classmates from USC play an adventure game together. Day9 kept taking huge diversions into playing the sudoku minigame in the Nancy Drew game that they were playing.
Bjorn Posted May 6, 2015 The Card game in FF8 I got obsessed with being able to beat the racing minigames in 3D Dot Game Heroes. Which there was a game reason, you got some item, but it wasn't something I needed. I just really, really, really wanted to beat them and they needed near perfect twitch timing. Apparently sometime after I finished that game, they patched those races to make them quite a bit easier
JonCole Posted May 6, 2015 I was really addicted to the Money-Making Game in Kingdom of Loathing for a while. It is basically just a coin flip gamble where you bet against another player. I had played the game for a long enough time that I had a ton of in-game currency and it fluctuated SO MUCH during that time. Maybe two weeks of basically just coin flips and me being wildly excited or depressed. So dumb.
tberton Posted May 6, 2015 Shooting gallery minigames in Zelda always hook me. I just love shooting galleries, I guess.

Valorian Endymion Posted May 6, 2015 Acromage mini-game on Might and Magic VI-VIII was fun. Later 3DO planned (or did) standalone version, but while it as fun as a break on the gameplay, acromage itself isn´t enough for a whole game.
Patrick R Posted May 6, 2015 Is there any chiptune equivalent that emulates that Genesis hard rock sound? Most chiptune I've heard seems to be strictly NES inspired, but those Genesis games that tried to do heavy metal sound so amazing and distinctive.
SuperBiasedMan Posted May 6, 2015 Yeah, I got in deep to the shooting part of Team Fortress 2. I barely even played the hat dress up stuff to be honest.
JonCole Posted May 7, 2015 Welp, PAX Prime is nearly sold out. I find this whole part of the process so depressing, because there's such a demand for events like PAX but every time it sells out and hordes of people are disappointed. Glad that I don't even entertain the notion of attending Prime or East.
Twig Posted May 7, 2015 I didn't even know passes were on sale today. Bleh. Guess I'm not going. Again.
JonCole Posted May 7, 2015 Yeah, they never announce it ahead of time (in fact, just a week ago they said that tickets "will be on sale later in May" which I don't think anyone would have guessed would be literally one week later in the first week of the month) and it was right in the middle of lunch hour for West coasters. Lame.
