Zeusthecat Posted January 15, 2014 I want to see a sitcom where Yoda, Methuselah, and Gollum all share an apartment and are co-owners of a local coffee shop. The combination of extreme senility, advanced psychosis, and constant talking in riddles by wacky dudes that have lived for centuries would make for some good American entertainment. I assume that there would be a laugh-track. I wouldn't watch it, but I kinda want it to happen Fraggle Rock style.

Zeusthecat Posted January 15, 2014 WHAT FLAVOURS Cheddar, caramel, and regular I think. And if you're lucky you'll sometimes find a dead mouse in the bottom of the tin.

Apelsin Posted January 15, 2014 Cheddar, caramel, and regular I think. And if you're lucky you'll sometimes find a dead mouse in the bottom of the tin. From working with people from France/Belgium I've learned that this can mean different things. I assume salted?
Zeusthecat Posted January 15, 2014 From working with people from France/Belgium I've learned that this can mean different things. I assume salted? Well, maybe it is good that I used the term "regular" because I imagine that whatever the regular flavor is in any given country would be the flavor that would fill the third space. Here it would be butter and salt.
Ucantalas Posted January 16, 2014 Other places have different default popcorn flavours? That's AMAZING.
Justin Leego Posted January 16, 2014 What if for one day a year, everybody's forum name was changed to that of a country, city, or geographical feature? Maybe this already happens on geography websites. Or maybe it doesn't because it would amount to the impersonation of other forum members.

Apelsin Posted January 17, 2014 Other places have different default popcorn flavours? That's AMAZING. Yeah, France/Belgium has sugared popcorn. My colleague got really shocked when he stuffed his face with salted popcorn here in Sweden
elmuerte Posted January 17, 2014 I'm not sure about .nl, but I think the majority is sugar, but there's also a large salt group. In most places you can choose between the two.
SecretAsianMan Posted January 17, 2014 Has anyone else ever ascribed a level a sentience to a game? It's probably because of the increasing number of rougelikes I've been playing but I feel like I've gone from just saying stuff like "This game hates me" to actually believing it.
dibs Posted January 17, 2014 Well, never attribute to malice what you can attribute to stupidity. Maybe the roguelike is just stupid. Srsly though, rogulikes are pretty much designed so that something Bad is almost guarenteed to happen. Remember the 500 baddies you just breezed through? Was the RL being benevolent with all them? You should be far more worried about sentience in robots. also, have you tried tales of maj'ejal? you should.
Brannigan Posted January 17, 2014 Everybody with left 4 dead, course it helped that valve coined an "AI director" for those games
clyde Posted January 17, 2014 It's not quite sentience, but I've seen families of flagellates develop survival-strategies in Artificial Life that make me say to my iphone screen "Well aren't you little guys impressive, how clever!" And that has made me question how much of my behavior is me. So I guess I gave up some of my sentience in order to ascribe it to genetic-algorithms.
SecretAsianMan Posted January 17, 2014 Lord Chris Remo's Wikipedia page is the best thing.
Bjorn Posted January 17, 2014 That's fantastic. That just sent me through all the thumbs wikipages looking for easter eggs. The IT entry and Vanaman both have one. No entry for Breckon. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary on Rodkin's page. Lord Remo's is the best though.

Gormongous Posted January 19, 2014 I just remembered a conversation with a friend over a year ago where she said that she hated seeing her therapist because it was so exhausting coming up with things to say to her in order to appear normal and sane. Nothing I could say made her see anything wrong with this attitude. People are weird.
Ucantalas Posted January 20, 2014 That brings up a question I've kind of been wondering about... If you think you need a therapist, do you just, like... call one up and make an appointment? Or do you need to be referred by a regular doctor, like you would for a different type of specialist? I don't know if I'd ever be able to admit mental issues to the doctor I would go to about weird rashes or other physical things, it just seems really weird to me. I dunno, maybe I'm crazy. subbes Posted January 20, 2014 Usually you can self-refer, unless your medical coverage requires you be referred by your doctor. When I've asked docs for a referral the doctor has asked me if I have a doctor in mind and, if I didn't, suggested someone. If you're in Canada, I bet there's a helpful website that will tell you whether you need to be referred for mental health treatment. If it works like in the USA and you don't want to bother with health coverage you can probably self-refer and pay out of pocket.
tegan Posted January 20, 2014 I got a counselor as part of my workplace's health benefits, having been referred by Blue Cross. The counselor helped me get into Mental Health services, but I still haven't actually gotten anywhere regarding that.
