clyde Posted June 18, 2013 Time. I would rather be doing something else I want to do instead of something I have to do. Is there something specific that you wish you had more time for? Or is it more like you have to rush when doing everything because you have so much you have to do?
Zeusthecat Posted June 18, 2013 For me, sleep and rest are essential parts if satisfaction. Working to achieve, achieving and then moving immediately to the next task doesn't satisfy me. It's as if I have to stop thinking in order to realize what I have done. Also, a lot of people equate recreational activities with rest, but I disagree with this idea. Watching a movie or playing a game is still activity. The way I visualize the difference is that if I set my phone alarm and find a nice spot in a park, lay down and close my eyes until the alarm goes off 20 minutes later; at first my m Now eating. You are doing it wrong. I recommend taking an hour to look through recipes online, finding one with instructions you can follow but that looks like something better than anything you can buy at a rest I will agree to disagree. My mind is constantly racing. I don't ever feel the desire to sleep or take a nap (if I dose off I actually wake up kind of irritated that I just lost time that could have been spent doing something more interesting) unless my body forces me to. Even then I will often lay in bed with my mind still going through all of it's bullshit thoughts, sorting out the events of the day, and planning out what my next sequence of actions will be. Then I start thinking about why I am thinking about what I am thinking about and why I can't stop thinking about things I am thinking about and eventually pass out. Then I have the hardest fucking time waking up every single morning, even if I just got 10 hours of sleep. Maybe my mind just continues to race while I'm sleeping and I really need 14 hours of sleep to counteract that, who knows. And on the food thing, don't get me wrong, I love to eat good tasting food. I just hate needing to eat. It is a rather boring activity and again, it detracts from doing more interesting stuff. I just want to use the time I have to do as much interesting and fulfilling stuff as possible.

SecretAsianMan Posted June 18, 2013 Is there something specific that you wish you had more time for? Or is it more like you have to rush when doing everything because you have so much you have to do? Not so much one specific thing as many things. Basically, I want to do everything. But I don't start most things because I know I don't have time to do them to the degree I would like. Let's say I average about 7 hours of sleep a night (I usually don't but for the sake of arguement lets say I do). In a week, that's nearly 50 hours. Even if I spent all that time playing games, that's at least one game a week (probably more). Right now, I'm lucky to get through one game a month.
Zeusthecat Posted June 18, 2013 Play video games, get some yardwork done while it's cool (we're getting to around 110 degrees F during the day now), read up on stuff, get some more programming done on my side project, watch some movies and shows that I've never gotten around to watching, learn how to break dance, learn how to juggle 5 balls instead of only 3, practice drawing and doing artistic stuff, write some poetry (I've never done that but always wanted to if I had more time), start a blog, use my useless engineering skills to make a kickass robot, rip up my carpet and put tile in, go back and read all of my old college textbooks (especially history and philosophy), learn how to do some basic carpentry, learn how to play piano and guitar, and a lot of other stuff. Like SAM said, with my limited time I end up just focusing on a few things that are at the top of my pile.
Twig Posted June 18, 2013 I agree with Zeus on the sleep thing. If there was a way to avoid sleep in a way that was not detrimental to my health, I would do it in a heartbeat. That's an average of eight hours wasted a day. Gimme that time back, you stupid, weak, frail, human body. Food is a different story though. Yum.
clyde Posted June 18, 2013 Alright. Well when you all take the pill to make yourself super-human, when you walk past me taking a nap in my rags, please don't be like "Well he would have enough money to buy air if he didn't sleep all the time!"

Well when you all take the pill to make yourself super-human, when you walk past me taking a nap in my rags, please don't be like "Well he would have enough money to buy air if he didn't sleep all the time!" I will use my newly developed carpentry skills to build a house around you as you sleep and fill it with an army of robots that will help you with whatever you need. Then, when you wake up I'll teach you to break dance.

SecretAsianMan Posted June 18, 2013 I do have one caveat to my never wanting to sleep and that's long car/plane rides. I get carsick reading or staring at a screen too long and I just don't like flying (despite or perhaps because of the number of times I've done it). In those instances I prefer to sleep in order to make the time pass quicker.
dibs Posted June 19, 2013 I've decided that my headstone will end with a ) Just to worry everyone. I hate a hanging parenthesis. Now I just have to figure out some way of remembering this for the next 50 or so years I plan on hanging around.

dibs Posted June 19, 2013 No no. With a closer they will have to go back through my life to try and find where the bracket begins. I'm not trying to imply that I'm going to haunt them! (My will shall do that job).

Sententia Posted June 20, 2013 The science behind sleep or improving/removing it hasn't moved forward in a while as far as I know. The thing about sleep is it's partially a rest for your brain and part for your muscles, right? It's something the advancement of cyborg technology might have an effect on, without muscles to futz with maybe your brain will get bored of sleep faster. Thinking about the future of life-improving science yesterday made me realize how young I am and how fast things are moving. It struck me that when I was born we were using floppy disks and computers with less ability than today's flip phones, and recently we've successfully tested cyborg arms controlled by direct input from your brain. How far are we really from gradually replacing our decaying meatsuits while somehow keeping our brains capable? Also the existence and decent availability of the Roomba is a shock to me still. clyde Posted June 20, 2013 I've become more of a consumer than a creator. When I am consuming media and I say to myself "I'm not enjoying this, this is boring", I force myself to make something even if I'm not inspired or capable. Works for me. Of course it's best to tackle something disposable, I wouldn't work on that house of cards I've been building for months in that state. I have many unfinished projects and I'll probably start a few more today. I'll probably work on my pirate romance text adventure too though. After I doodle DRagOns!! Hope it helps. Drawing monsters pretty much always pays off.

Yesterday I was thinking about how awesome it'll be when I can afford a driverless car. I was fantasizing about falling asleep at the wheel and finding out that a cop has been trying to pull me over for the last 30 miles. "Sorry officer, these driverless cars, they have a mind of their own." Also, I expect to pay less for insurance and I'll be able to drink alcohol at bars! When I was a freshmen in college, one of my professors said something that has always stuck with me. He showed a picture of an old room sized vaccum tube computer and said "Do you know what device has more computing power than that?" He then pulled out a greeting card that plays music when you open it. That was over a decade ago.
SecretAsianMan Posted June 20, 2013 How about this: a cab company that also delivers pizza. That way when you're at a bar drunk, you can call a cab and when you get home, you have pizza!
