Not my shit per se. A bunch of guys who met on my forum and who I have a lot of respect for got quite far with developing a space pirate-themed platformer, but unfortunately had to shut down development and go back into full-time work last year because they just couldn't get through to the end. While in need of more work, what they had was going in a really nice direction.

They did a Kickstarter, but it's been really difficult to get any of the big sites like Kotaku to post about it — I guess articles about Japanese toilets or whatever the fuck get them more hits. They're only a few days from the end now but they're barely 50% there, so they're doing one last push to get some of that all-important exposure.

Here's the Kickstarter, please do check it out and back it if you feel it worthwhile:

And here's a cute image they did about the game's origins:

Great looking screenshots! And surprising it's for iOS and Android - I'd have immediately believed this was for PC and current consoles.

plug plug plug, here's a video of that project that may or may not eventuate

Lacabra, do you want this to remain relatively quiet or are you happy for me to post it in other places? I know a bunch of people who would probably love this.

I showed it to a friend who said "He appears to have invented the Vaporwave FPS", which is a Good Thing. I also think it's worth pursuing, even (or especially) if it ends up a really small, brief game.

It was for PC initially, but they ran out of money I believe?

So, smaller scale this time.

Well, sadly they only got halfway there. I feel pretty bad for them as they sunk a lot of personal funds to get it to where they did, but I guess that's just the not-go-glam reality of how ambitious indie development can go. Still, at least they've all got great portfolio pieces. Going mobile-only perhaps wasn't the best choice, I'm not sure that many 'gamer' gamers genuinely actually care about mobile games. Maybe the story isn't over yet, who knows.

Interestingly, the whole soundtrack was produced and it's pretty good! Hearty and enjoyable pirate music:

No, just kidding that last one isn't from the game. But the composer is obviously a fan.

I have to be honest, the biggest turn off for me is that it's mobile. As much as I loved the look of the game (and I do!), I can't get behind a game like that on mobile platforms. It's not that I don't care about mobile games. It's that this specific genre... Nigh uncontrollable...

What amazes me is how good the game looks for the type of game it is. I certainly wouldn't be averse to more games of that style (in terms of both aesthetics and gameplay) on PC. 3D platformers aren't exactly the biggest PC genre! Bring it home!

(Not that I have money to be spending on this sort of thing, anyway, but, well.)

That music is so fun. I love it.

Ah fuck, I was just about to give them some money before I realized it was already over. ;( I think this game looks beautiful and I hope they finish it one way or another. Damn, that sucks it wasn't funded, they weren't even asking for that much.

My post count is super low, so I hope this isn't percieved as spamy. I just happened to see the thread and thought I'd plug a music project I was working on a year ago or so..

I composed soundtrack music to one of Neil Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels.. I completed the first book, and started on the second but I got busy.. I hope to get back to it when I get a minute.. I'm currently attending college and don't have a lot of time.. but maybe someone might dig it - so here:

meep.

(it embedded, but there is a playlist of roughly 70ish minutes on the youtube page.. roughly ten minutes per issue)

Right now I'm doing pre-production art on our next game inbetween working on the current one.

It's looking fairly likely that this will be our next project, which is good, cos I like it. I'm figuring out composition stuff like what fire and smoke should look like, what explosions and blood and water should look like, etc.

Sometimes it's just me figuring out how to use Photoshop.

This is more stuff I'll be using to inform pitch material and promotional assets later. There's a tonne of other small stuff that doesn't look as flashy or nice. Like this concepting, for example. I want this one guy to be a mysterious healer/engineer, but also fit in with the other guys, who are closer to jet-pirates.

Anyway our actual current game is SpeedRunners, which now has weekly events every Thursday. These are modifiers on the game,

. If you don't play on the day then you'll miss it, so keep up with the event calendar in-game.
I finally played Speedrunners just then with a couple of mates and briefly a random internet dude. That game is really really great, dude. Well done. <3

Though I appreciate your enthusiasm for lamps, lamp-based games and/or other lamp-based digital or physical entertainment products or products/services derived therefrom, I urge you to change the nature of your game such as to avoid infringing on the upcoming interactive video game «Lamp Marine™» (http://www.lampmarine.com/) or the «Lamp Marine™» franchise, which would force us to take legal action. I appreciate your compliance in this matter in advance.

Rewind This!, a documentary about the rise and fall of the VHS tape, has now come to DVD (and VHS)!  I did not direct this film but I did a short animation for it. While the animation was cut from the final film due to time and flow reasons (don't worry they said they were really sad to get rid of it, as they had other animations, but wanted to keep mine), it is a special feature on the DVD. Anyway, I'm just psyched my animation is in an actual product you can buy on a shelf.

Also the documentary is great. You'd expect them to usually just focus on porn and the beta wars, but it's so much more than that and focuses a lot on the filmmakers who used VHS to distribute their lower budget stuff that would have never been shown or had an audience otherwise if it weren't the for the cheapness of the format and predominance of video rental stores.

Thanks!

I can't take design credit on it, but I am super happy to be working on it, as I think it's a fucking cool, fun game.

The name for the JetGetters game seems to be lacking a subtitle and punctuation. What about "S.K.Y.L.O.R.D.S.: Lords of the Sky - Can't Take the Sky from Me / Sky is the Limit"?

That Interstate-looking thing is great and also makes me want to play Interstate again.

PS http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1517270521/motorgun-return-of-the-auto-duel (not my shit, just found while googling for Interstate 76 and google suggested "interstate 76 remake")

I remember that kickstarter. It landed like a wet fart and caused a lot of confusion because it was originally called Autoduel without having any rights to the name.

It's weird how often that seems to happen. Don't people check to see if the name has already been taken when they start marketing something?

I fucking loved Interstate 76. I wish it wasn't such a pain to get it working acceptably on modern computers. Even the GoG version sucks.

Yeah, I bought that yesterday and it doesn't really work (sometimes renders bullshit colors, sometimes correct). Key mapping configuration is a pain to use (but a must).

The GOG version has worked fine for me, and I love the default bindings a heck of a lot. Also, thanks for the complimentary post.

Also, I really think JetGetters should be the final name for JetGetters.
