Just have the Snog PS4 and the Marry PS4. It's easiest to avoid the Avoid people if you don't friend them.

But how will I look down my nose at them "pfft playing CoD are we"

Okay, you've convinced me, I'll go with just the two PS4s

Yeah, there's a bunch of exclusives I want to play and every time I think about getting a next gen console I find myself think about wanting to play Uncharted, Infamous, Disgaea, Journey, Last of Us, Heavy Rain, etc. There's a whole new set of games that I don't have to fight for a pre-order to get.

:)

Oh yeah of course Last of Us, Heavy rain and Beyond two souls will be well worth playing.

I bought my PS3 about a year after uncharted 2 came out and even then that game blow my mind. I think it'll still hold up today

Once more confirming that Gamescom is increasingly relevant in the industry. Hooray for the old world!

I hope they have a load of new stuff to show off, be kind of redundant if they just show infamous and kill zone again. Probably talk about the vita a bit.

They'll show the new god of war innit

This would be a good time to announce a release date for the PS4 (rumours of Oct 21st http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=650983)

Probably get a lot of game reveals over the week, all the smaller games that won't be featuring in a press conferences will want to grab the lime light before getting swapped by all the gamescom news

I really hope it's not that early, or else I'll really have to budget tighter than I'd like to afford it or cancel one of my preorders.

I hope not, I like the studio behind God of War, but the story was played out with 3 and story was part of the games. Besides, it's not like they could advance much more on the "3D brawler where dude smashes stuff" genre anyway.

I'd imagine (hope) it'll be a new IP, the evolution of god of war... Whatever that is (add guns)

Although reading this, it may be a bit early:

So what is Barlog doing at Sony Santa Monica? Who knows. "Sadly, I cannot tell you," he said. "But I can say that it is freaking huge, and it will live up to the standards that I helped establish here at SMS."

"We're putting together a team as I type this - an Ocean's 11 kind of thing," he added. "We are searching the world high and low for the best of the BEST to come and be on the ground floor of this endeavor. So, hey, if you are a freaking rock star unafraid to roll your sleeves up and take risks, reading this thinking that your current digs are feeling... well... a bit small, a bit dull and in need of some excitement - you need to contact me at Sony Santa Monica."

Althoughhhhh Microsoft did announce halo 5 which is coming out next Christmas. So maybe Sony will give us a little teaser trailer for this or maybe the next naughty dig game

I agree that God of War's story is well and truly done. I haven't played Ascension, but it seems to just be another relatively inconsequential game in the same vein of the two (admittedly quite good in their HD PS3 form) PSP titles.

I'm sure they could somehow continue it, but it ended on a conclusive albeit depressing note. I'm actually disappointed they put in a post-credits scene, they clearly wanted an out but that kind of ruins the finality and message of how devoting yourself to vengeance will not just destroy yourself but everything else around you. I liked that they had the balls to end the game in such a horrible way, then they ruined it with a few-second 'oh it might all be OK after all' scene.

What I would like to see is something that's as good as God of War using a similar formula. Lots of games have tried, but I don't think I've played much else that really captures the incredible highs of especially God of War 2 and to a lesser extent God of War 3. I know that Ascension is said to have made some genuinely good gameplay refinements, so I'd love to see that evolved into some other kind of mythology-themed game. I think grounding it in actual mythology is a big part of why God of War works so well, incidentally.

The other option is to dispense of Kratos altogether and focus on a completely different character and time in God of War's lore, perhaps even Zeus himself prior to the events of the God of War franchise. I'm sure some kind of 'he's weakened for some reason' story could be put together. The fans might like this even less than just ending the series altogether, but I sure do love Greek mythology.

This was an Easter egg from ascension

(Videos posted below)

Wow this is this first I've heard of the painting changing.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=522813

English: SUN BIRD BULL LION SUN

One of the things that these are all common to is Mithras:

http://www.mythencyclopedia.com/Mi-Ni/Mithras.html

"The Persians saw Mithras as the principal assistant of Ahura Mazda, the god of goodness and light. Mithras battled demons, sorcerers, and other evildoers and helped the souls of worthy humans. In another role, as a god of war, he rode in a golden chariot pulled by four horses."

"Some scholars identify Mithras with Mitra, a mythic figure of the Aryan peoples who invaded northern India around the l600s B . C . Mitra, the god of friendship, was associated with the sun and served as one of the judges of the dead. He was supposed to bring worthy people back to life after the universe ended. Some of Mitra's functions lingered in the developing mythology of Mithras."

More Kratos then

Heh, Jesus. The ability of gamers to crack the most obscure things ever never ceases to amaze me. While the effect of the painting's transformation does seem very sci-fi and thus points to a new IP, the painting's connection to God of War 3's ending is impossible to deny. It looks to me like an explosion that's sending a shockwave around Earth, which would coincide with either of two things that happened during GoW3's ending:

Zeus exploding, or more likely Kratos impaling himself and releasing the sword's power ('hope', which Athena said she could rebuild the world with).

There are plenty of gods and titans left for utilising in a new story, including some that weren't killed in the main trilogy and one that's particularly pissed off with Kratos. So I guess there's ample fodder for a new story, but it's hard to imagine what a motivation for Kratos could be now that he's well and truly gone beyond making good what's powered his fury throughout the series.

Part of me would like to see them come up with something incredible, but if it ends up anything like the side-games' stories which have no real impact on the world or arc (because they're designed to neatly fit within it) it's just not worth it.

Ascension suffers from that, great game (although it starts a little flat) but it doesn't add anything to the overall story. I'd still recommended picking it up

It's a shame that the story has been spread so thin amongst the side games, as there's some great little moments in the psp games like when you meet Kratos' mother

Interesting, any announcements on how they're handling digital purchases (number of consoles, periodic checkins, etc?)
