a purple future Posted December 28, 2010 for the record, i am totally in favor of still having a /spawn command. most dungeon crawlers have return spells or town portals or whatever that don't break the game. all other shortcuts and mod trickery i can go either way on. tabacco Posted December 28, 2010 for the record, i am totally in favor of still having a /spawn command. most dungeon crawlers have return spells or town portals or whatever that don't break the game. all other shortcuts and mod trickery i can go either way on. I wasn't planning to turn off any of the commands people have access to right now. I think losing /spawn would just be a hindrance, rather than adding anything to the game. Patters Posted December 28, 2010 I might pop in for a short while too.

Patters Posted December 28, 2010 I might start the arson ritual of the end of a server.
Squid Division Posted December 28, 2010 I'm out of town so I won't be there tonight. I'll be on tomorrow though. Pick a good one, and watch out for mobs!
Orv Posted December 28, 2010 So there will be some nice videos later on.
tabacco Posted December 28, 2010 The world is reset, mobs are on, and you can view the current interactive world map at http://idlemc.com/maps/interactive/ (it's rebuilt nightly) I'm also automatically building isometric maps in day and night views, but I don't have a way to post them for viewing yet. My plan is to beef up idlemc.com to show them (and link to backups of old worlds)

elmuerte Posted December 28, 2010 illeria and I build a safe-haven at the top, just take the stairway to haven in front of the spawn
elmuerte Posted December 28, 2010 (Safe) Haven rules: 1) ABC (Always be Closing) the doors 2) community chest (main room) is community chest 3) private chests are in the private chest room (floor below the main room); you have to bring your own chests and signs
MrHoatzin Posted December 28, 2010 I don't think we need the caves pseudogoog map layer. It is just confusing and possibly unsportsmanlike. It would also be cheaper processor-wise not to make it.
Squid Division Posted December 28, 2010 Not to mention damn near unusably confusing.
tabacco Posted December 28, 2010 Yeah, it's not really as cool as I'd hoped. I'll disable it tonight. By the way, c10t seems very resource friendly... generating these only takes about 15-20 seconds per map (even the last world only took about 30-45 seconds). It's somewhat slower if I restrict its memory usage and force it to swap to disk, but that's to be expected. Not doing textures makes a big difference. Cult of Jared Posted December 29, 2010 Can c10t add markers to the map? They would be useful for navigation, and maybe a fun tool as well.
tabacco Posted December 29, 2010 Can c10t add markers to the map? They would be useful for navigation, and maybe a fun tool as well. It should be doing that already. I'm not sure any were placed last time it rebuilt.
tabacco Posted December 29, 2010 Hey what do you guys think about installing thing? http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecart_Mania! It adds a more straightforward 'interface' for minecarts. Obsidian block under the track + redstone current = launcher, etc.
Squid Division Posted December 29, 2010 I kinda like the obstinateness of the vanilla tracks, but I'm not opposed to that.
a purple future Posted December 29, 2010 i am 100% behind it, especially if it's easily removable if we hate it. it looks cool also it makes gold useful so to that
MrHoatzin Posted December 29, 2010 I am generally for a pure (puritanical?) Minecraft experience, right out of the box, as The Good God intended it to be played,A lot of these mods do some arbitrary things with blocks that are not intuitive in the world (gold blocks accelerate carts that pass over them), and they break both the immersion and the joy of using the quirks of the game (booster loops) to engineer clever solutions to problems. It would be different if the booster was a general purpose motor block that the mod added. That would be great! As it is, no one seems to be using the motorized cart Notch put in the game. Maybe he should rethink that one as a block instead of a cart. At least while the game is still being developed stuff is relatively likely to break with every update—we already have to wait for hey0 to update every time Notch updates the server. We could have a lot of broken infrastructure to hike through every so often. [*]On the other hand, who gives a shit? 1a is entirely philosophical, 1b is an argument out of sheer laziness/impatience. I dunno. I am somewhat agnostic on this issue.
elmuerte Posted December 29, 2010 are minetracks not complicated and buggy enough?
jennoa Posted December 29, 2010 That looks pretty interesting. I would be OK with it showing up on the server.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted December 29, 2010 So, er, I've been playing around with MC in my spare time... It's kind of fun, making and expanding my lair, mining for stuff, killing baddies, and crafting items. I was just wondering: Is that all there is to MC? I think I've crafted nearly everything I care to... I think. If so, what's the dealio with crafting something on a shared server? Is it just random hijinks? Also: How on earth did someone craft all the amazing stuff that's there already (Stairway to Heaven, etc.)? In my single player game, I've managed to build a cave... with some torches and a door. To build all that other stuff must take about 50 million years?! I feel like I'm missing something. Thanks for any help!
elmuerte Posted December 29, 2010 Creating the stairway to haven, and haven itself, took a bunch of moons. Most of it I did myself, and a few others contributed. There really isn't much to it. The trick is to reuse as much as you can from the existing environment. The start is always slow, but once you've got some basic supplies like a safe spot and torches you can harvest and build constantly. Using the day to harvest things look wood or find new open coal. And the night to build interior and prepare for the next day. The thing we've been doing on the Idle MC server is just building cool things to show others. It's not about crafting, but about building. The mobs add an extra challenge to building, and so does working hitpoints. And there's exploring cave systems. Haven't done that yet in the new world. Squid Division Posted December 30, 2010 Thunderpeel - here's the crafting recipe list I use all the time. You can also find the properties of the different blocks to find out if they do anything weird (like reeds blocking water, etc.)
