Gwardinen Posted September 27, 2011 So I got a call today telling me that my new computer will be arriving tomorrow, awesome, right? Yes it is, and furthermore I'll be getting a free copy of Arkham City with it. Even more awesome? Yes it is! What is not awesome is that the guy told me the PC version of Arkham City has now been delayed to November. A quick internet search reveals he is correct. I would link to the press release but there's no point, that's literally all it says, Arkham City PC is delayed until "November" and no reason is given. I am not Batman. Kolzig Posted September 27, 2011 The latest Joker trailer was pretty much awesome. Especially that it gave incorrect information about the release date regarding PC version. I hope they are adding some additional content there to justify that this game also gets delayed with it's PC version. I really, really hope that Rage maintains the dates it has now because these PC related delays are really annoying. But yeah this game is worth the wait, at least I want to believe so. I actually don't mind about the delay as I don't think I will be playing this immediately anyway, there's just too many games and not enough time.
Roderick Posted October 21, 2011 (edited) Anyone play it yet? As 'luck' would have it I'm home ill (legit) so I've been able to play all day. It's really good. The roster of villains is a lot better to my tastes (big Freeze fan) and the open world gameplay makes the game basically... Assassin's Creed but with Batman. Without foregoing the tightly paced inside environments that offer all the riches of the first game. The street environments are densely packed with challenges and interesting scenery and the game is really, really smartly written. Multiple times characters have said exactly what I was thinking at the time. For example: the Penguin is quite interestingly worked out and a real psychopath, probably the most callous with lives and downright evil, to the point where he wants to destroy all the other villains as well. This is quite an interesting development of the character because I never really considered him to be this scary and dangerous. So after defeating him, one of the rescued guards says literally 'Wow, that Penguin. I never thought much of him, but he's really insane.' I can only imagine that's what everyone was thinking at that time! I look forward to this game surprising me further. Edited October 21, 2011 by Rodi

I'm home ill too, have been the whole week. But I'm waiting for the PC version. Spent most of my illness time so far playing BTTF and Hector.
miffy495 Posted October 21, 2011 Replaying Arkham Asylum right now to keep myself stoked until the PC release. Since Steam had it on for a $40 pre-order if you already owned another Batman game, I totally pre-ordered that shit and can't wait to give it a go.
Gwardinen Posted October 21, 2011 I'm doing my best to resist the fact that the console version is out now and wait for the PC version. I recently got a new computer that has basically left me at negative amounts of money so I want to use it every chance I can get. Also, it's claimed that the PC version will have some improvements in textures and such. Not sure I actually believe it, but it's probably good for my self control for me to wait anyway. miffy495 Posted October 21, 2011 I watched nVidia's "hey, look at all the crazy PhysX stuff that the PC version has with one of our GTX cards!" video and got a bit excited that the laptop I just spent way too much on to replace an old and constantly crashing laptop has a GTX 460m in it. I'm excited to see what this sucker can pump out with that. Since I'm replaying Arkham Asylum right now (and for the first time on PC, previously I played it on PS3) I'm noticing all kinds of crazy effects that the PS3 version didn't have. Crackly leaves swooshing around as I run outside, chunks of building, good old Tarp Physics (P.I.) being applied to the cape, etc. It looks bloody great. I'm stoked on how pretty the sequel is going to be. Ah... PC gaming. My only problem is keeping a coworker quiet about his spoiler-filled PS3 playthrough while I wait for this version to be released. Ah. PC gaming.

Arkham Asylum featured better graphics as well, and was a solid port.
elmuerte Posted October 22, 2011 I wouldn't say AA was a port, it felt and played like a game made for the PC.
Roderick Posted October 24, 2011 The ending. How brave, how poignant! This is how endings should be. I expected things to return to the status quo, much as happened in the previous game. So when the final resolution arrived it hit hard. Damn what a good ending. I really wonder if Mark Hamill didn't have a hand in this. Arkham Asylum was supposed to be his final time as Joker, so when he returned for Arkham City to everyone's surprise... perhaps he only agreed to it if they would kill off the character? baconian Posted October 26, 2011 I'm playing it on hard so that it lasts longer, but man, some of those fights are HARD. Should have bought the armour upgrade instead of the cloaking device The flying is amazing fun, after fighting Ras al Ghul I daydream about flying about that landscape . I also love the way they don't give you choices about who Batman is as a character. Think how crappy it would feel to be controlling him and making dubious moral choices. I just hope this doesn't change later in the game... Yes, Batman remains to me the only solid moral centre of the whole of our current cultural landscape. #IThasbestsmileys
toblix Posted October 31, 2011 What the fuck is this shit? I remember Arkham Asylum making me feel like a bad-ass bat man flying around beating up thugs. Apparently this time I'm a clumsy, inept bat man who has no business trying to move from perch to perch or get into trouble. First of all, what is this, X-Wing? I'm doing these AR training mission where I have to glide, then dive and then pull back and fly right above ground into a tight corridor. I've tried it fifty times and either I can't reach the first circle because apparently Batman leaps off ledges with a random amount of momentum, or because I can't pull back at the exact right millisecond and with the exact right vertical and lateral force to propel me not too much to the left, right or up so as to hit the wall, or down, so as to hit the ground. Do I get some bat-thing later on that makes this not impossible, or have they added these ridiculous things just to satisfy masochist gamers? Also, what is this, Street Fighter? Did the first game really have so many different combat combos? Do I have to learn them all? I like beating up dudes, but sometimes a combo thing pops up and I try to do what it says, but Batman only swirls around and gets beaten up, making me feel like a failure. God damn it. Roderick Posted November 1, 2011 Is this a PC thing? On the Xbox I had no trouble with either feeling like an invincible predator (I did play on Normal, not Hard), just like in Arkham Asylum, or zipping around town. The AR challenges ranged from really easy to hard, but were all of them fun and a matter of skill.
toblix Posted November 1, 2011 It's on Xbox, and it's hugely embarrassing for me. After finishing Gears of War 2 on hardcore, it's so humiliating not being able to complete what's essentially a gliding tutorial.
Nappi Posted November 1, 2011 Combos! That sounds horrible! Amazon.co.uk sent me a very apologetic email about how they cannot deliver the PC version on November 7th. Seems like the release date is November 18th anyway, so meh.
Roderick Posted November 1, 2011 The final AR challenge that you're doing is anything but a tutorial. In the game you'll never have to do anything as ridiculously hard in terms of gliding as that again. I really liked the challenge even though I usually shy away from tough things, but I can see how it might frustrate someone. Rest assured that apart from the satisfaction of beating it, there is no other reason to finish this particular one. There isn't an item or upgrade waiting for you at the end of that tunnel. As for the fighting, I found it great and exactly the same as in Asylum. I hardly ever used combos, instead relying on quickfire gadgets to push through every encounter.
