Lu Posted April 6, 2011 Well, my vacation is over. Hanging out with one of your best friends from the other side of the world, having a good time... The feeling of being on my own again is not a great one, I must say. I miss her a lot already. Might as well say it now since it's semi-official. The plan is to move to the US for a long period of time, at the end of the year, as I go into the games making business with a buddy o' mine. That's the plan at least. I've been thinking about this for a long time now and finally decided that this is what I wanted to do a few months ago. It's scary, but I'm so up for the adventure! First things first... I need to get my driver's license.
Roderick Posted April 6, 2011 Good luck with both ventures!
subbes Posted April 6, 2011 D'you need character references for a Visa, etc.? If so, don't ask any of us, we're probably all filthy Socialists.
Orv Posted April 6, 2011 If so, don't ask any of us, we're probably all filthy Socialists. I am quite clean, thank you. (Though also not a socialist, so the point may be moot!) Good luck, Pirate!
toblix Posted April 6, 2011 He should have no problem getting in. It's not like he's a terrorist planning to bomb the President of the United States of America with a home-made incendiary device.
subbes Posted April 6, 2011 Ahh, probably tinting it with my own experience then - it took my Dad aaaaages to get my family our Green Cards, and he was sponsored by a multi-national corporation. Also my Chinese co-workers are having a terrible time with their I-129s, judging from the amount of "emergency next-day air UPS packages" I've had to send to the UCIS Processing Centers (despite me not being a secretary, sigh). Sully907 Posted April 6, 2011 Wow now I'm noticing all the thumbs around here that are in texas, two of us in austin, then you guys in el paso and san antonio as well. I actually just moved down here in August
ThunderPeel2001 Posted April 6, 2011 Yes, legally getting into the US has never been easy (despite was US citizens seem to think), and I'm sure it's even harder now.
Lu Posted April 6, 2011 It is made easier by the fact that I do not have to become a US citizen. I don't require a greencard, just a work visa. At this point, I'm not looking to become a permanent resident.
subbes Posted April 6, 2011 (SNIFFS, SOBS) You... don't want to stay?
Sully907 Posted April 6, 2011 Pirate wants all the benefits of being a US citizen without having to say he's a US citizen We are the bad guys of the world now apparently
MrHoatzin Posted April 6, 2011 "now"? "apparently"? Also, no. He totally doesn't want any of the benefits.
Squid Division Posted April 6, 2011 Awesome Pirate. Any idea/do you want to say where you'll be moving to in the US? You probably have a place to stay just outside Washington DC if you want, and I wouldn't mind taking you around.
subbes Posted April 6, 2011 That's why I kept my British citizenship when I got my US citizenship: I can still claim to not be one of y'all, should the need arise. Not that British citizenship is much better (thanks, Blair Brown and Cameron. Thairownameron).
Squid Division Posted April 6, 2011 Thairownameron Hey what do the Welsh have anything to do with it?!
MrHoatzin Posted April 6, 2011 Personally, I miss John Major. He was such a clueless cartoon. So much more preferable than any of the other douches we've been talking about. Edit: ...or rather, which subbes has mentioned. I am including Thatcher in there, because she is implied.

Lu Posted April 6, 2011 6 months to a year is a the current plan. If stuff goes well, I'll probably want to extend that. It's likely I'll be in the St. Louis, MO area, though I'm honestly not sure yet. Thanks for the offer, Squid.
elmuerte Posted April 7, 2011 I got shot in my arms today, both of them. Yeah..., vaccination shots for my (work)trip to India in a few weeks.

Scrobbs Posted April 7, 2011 Got back to my place in Leeds - my g/f has spent the last week packing. Feels unusual to see the house that I've lived in for the last 10 years so bare. Moving personal items sat in a big van, furniture to be moved at a future time.
syntheticgerbil Posted April 8, 2011 (edited) Hey I went camping the last few days, but not with thumbs. For whatever reason this time we had some brave raccoons that felt it necessary to walk right up while cooking chicken to just start raiding our stuff. They only made way with some pieces of dog food and a half eaten subway sandwich (which fell out of the wrapper on to the dirt before their getaway). Chasing them away only brought them back thirty seconds later. Even chasing them with logs while smacking nearby trees in a feeble attempt to be scary and make loud noises only made them pause and stare at you like you were an idiot from safe 20 foot distance. I'm guessing people have been feeding the raccoons at this particular state park, because in all the times I've been camping so far I've found raccoons prefer to wait until you're asleep to raid your campsite. Squid Division Posted April 8, 2011 Wow yeah I've never heard of raccoons being that bastardy.
