Any theories as to why they chose to start each episode with a color-coded intro?

 

It seems to me that Twin Peaks The Return is packed with more color symbolism than ever before:

White/Black Lodge

Red Room

Gold Orb/Seed

Silver Mustang

Dougie's Green Jacket

Dougie's Gold Jacket

Jade (give two rides)

Phillip Jeffries's Red Shoes

Mauve Zone

Rancho Rosa (Rose/Pink)

Blue Rose

Rainbow- colored Ring passing over Laura's face in the opening sequence

Etc..

To answer the question of how much Twin Peaks we got in The Return vs. both seasons of the original series.

 

Season 1: 420 minutes

Season 2:  1,073 minutes

 

The Return: 1,014 minutes.

Re: the question of exactly what was going on with Lucy and her issues with cell phones - I took it as that whole episode in the Sheriff's Department with BadCoop and Coop and the clock ticking back and forth etc as being a moment that reverberates into the past and futures of these characters, making Lucy's failure to understand cell phones (which she obviously understood the concept of in the original run) her 'Hold the Door' moment. Her involvement in scene, shooting BadCoop and having to cope with the idea of multiple Coopers reverberated back into her past existence and has made her terrified of the idea of one person in two places.

I just started this episode but one tiny aside that stuck with me. Chris started by mentioning the unresolved stories, etc. 

 

A weird one for me is how Nadine DOES resolve hers. She shoveled her way out of the shit, and is living a fulfilling life and lets Ed/Norma live theirs, which is just kind of funny until you view it through the whole season and how the opposite turned out for the Coopers.  How the obsession unwinds their lives.

Just started a rewatch of S3 and have gotten through Eps 1 & 2 so far. This series is utterly incredible on rewatch, when you have some idea of how things tie together. The proximity of the scenes of Experiment/Mother in the Box and  cut to Sarah Palmer casually watching violence feels even more chilling. It's also plenty scary seeing Cooper appear in the box right before Experiment/Mother does - is she chasing him? I get the feeling I am going to watch this a lot of times.

If you guys have any desire to eventually do another episode other than the Final Dossier I'd love to hear your thoughts on the season explicitly from the perspective of two guys in gamedev.  Between the lodge casino quest indicators, the final boss fight, thesearchforthezone/reddit detecting irl essentially being a text-based/critical analysis video game, and i feel like some other stuff i'm forgetting, it seems like a rich topic? Possibly one intentionally cultivated by Lynch to a certain extent? Would love to hear about whether Lynch has influenced your own work at all as well. Feel like y'all are obviously more qualified than any other peaks podcasters to talk about this, if it interests you. If it doesn't, nvm! I may be alone in feeling these vibes.

 

(i assume you're not doing more episodes at the moment, just throwing it out there and lamenting that i didn't get this question in in time)

I liked whoever brought up the Orpheus & Eurydice myth. That's a great pull.

He likes to explore associative connections between particular camera shots in Season 3 and various paintings/other shots (sometimes from Lynch, sometimes from other artists) that have striking resemblances. For me at least, this is the great sort of activity of modern art: suggestive connotations, allusions, references, patterns etc. that form loose rather than concrete chains of meaning. Allow those to continually accumulate without any particular restrictions until you have a dense electrified network where the brain is spinning with activity, a nimble vortex that allows one to think in a less restrictive manner, that is, without the baggage of ordinary life, media.

I had a thought about the Woodsmen: the only two things you hear 'em say are that rad water/well verse, which I guess I assume is being spoken through these dead men by Judy or whatever evil force, and "gotta light?" on loop, which is probably less in character for a mysterious evil force. These dudes having died in a fire it occurred to me that maybe it was a gas-related incident and "gotta light?" was the last thing any of 'em said before lighting up and accidentally killin' 'em all. I think this is a cool if unimportant idea. I haven't read Secret History yet though so maybe it goes into more detail about that incident.

Interesting interview with the cinematographer, with yet more evidence that Lynch definitely viewed this endeavour as an 18-hour film from the start. I wonder if there will be a fan edit once the Bluray hits that does this, taking out the opening theme and removing the end credits from the music scenes.

I've been watching the Sopranos and recently saw the "Kevin Finnerty" episodes that open up Season 6. There are some definite parallels between the end of the Kevin Finnerty storyline and the final scene of Twin Peaks The Return, in my opinion. I hadn't really thought that Laura was "The Dreamer" and didn't really take much stock in who the dreamer was supposed to be, if anyone, but after watching this pair of Sopranos eps I'm fairly convinced that the dreamer is Laura, and content to believe that perhaps the entire series is a dream/hallucination she's having in a coma or on her deathbed. Final Dossier notwithstanding.
