  1. Haven't seen anyone posting theirs yet! Mine's 4719 5772 7780! Let's frands!
  2. This game came out on the weekend and it consumed all of Sunday for me. It would have consumed Saturday too, but it was my birthday and I had guests that I needed to entertain. This game is so beautiful and even after all the youtube videos/screenshots I pored over, I'm still constantly amazed by how it looks. I've always been a fan of the core Xenoblade gameplay, and they've tweaked it here to make it deeper and more engaging. For those asking: no, there is no relation story/lore-wise of this game to the last. Still, a lot of the gameplay mechanics are carried over, including having a wide open plains peppered with monsters 50 levels higher than you. It helps create the feel that you're living in an actual ecosystem with a food chain, though, and 90% of monsters won't actually attack you if you leave them alone. So far the story doesn't seem as interesting as the first game, but the dialogue is way better and is keeping me entertained. I haven't felt like skipping any cutscenes yet, since the VA work is excellent in my opinion and the delivery of the lines is great. Despite the overworld being so beautiful though, unfortunately the home city, "New Los Angeles" is quite rough around the edges and look straight up like a PS2 game in some places. Still, it's a fantastic game and it's all I can think about right now. And how much I want to get into one of these:
  3. With dev kits being sent out it is time to crank out a thread for what will be the first of the 9th generation of home video game consoles - Codename NX. The generations have become blurry and somewhat pointless since the Wii went sideways in the tech race but, unless Microsoft has anything to do with it, generation 9 is the next in line. So far we know next to nothing, although the usual rumours of insanely advanced tech are doing the rounds. They say it's more powerful than the current crop (a given, I think, insomuch as the Wii U is more powerful than 360 and PS3). They say it's a home console you can carry as a handheld (my 'homeheld' moniker is yet to catch on). They say it's got a vitality-sensing hole you stick your finger in (they don't say that). Pooling their multiple consoles and dev teams into one thing that can function on all fronts makes sense theoretically, though doing so in a cost effective way that doesn't feel Jack-of-all-trades is a big ask. Even assuming the tech is modest (even simply Wii U-level), getting that into a form that will be comfortable on the bus, and also not feel restrictive in front of the telly is, again, a big ask. Nintendo have form (with handhelds) in getting something functional to market and then refining it a year or two down the line. That won't wash with a home console. They can't afford to fail in communicating the concept this time either. There's a LOT to get right. I'm reasonably comfortable saying it: 1. will be a handheld/home console hybrid. 2. won't be Wii branded. 3. will not be some behemoth tech-wise. Nintendo couldn't care less about spec parity or courting 3rd-party ports, and although it would give my inner 11-year old a kick to see them come out with some spec monster, it makes no sense for them. It'll be just juicy enough to achieve their goals.* The Wii U gets crapped on all the time but I've found the wireless gamepad tech practically flawless and I'm continually shocked by how pretty MK8 is. Namewise, it would be damaging to call it Wii DS or Wii Something, especially if it looks anything like an existing concept. I don't see any harm in keeping it Wiimote-compatible but it needs a clean break in nomenclature. And it needs to launch in Waluigi Purple. I actually really like the NX codename because it's so hella 90s. But we should start sweepstakes for the real name. The Nintendo Handi. The Fami. The Nexus. Or something animal-y to show how the portable bit 'piggybacks' to become one system. The Terrapin. The 'Roo. The Pilotfish. Ooo, how about the Manta! So, what do you think it'll be? Will Zelda get Twilight Princessed into a launch title? Will the Balance Board be compatible over three generations? *However, it's critical that we agree re. defining the new Nintendo console in terms of previous Nintendo consoles, plus some form of adhesive - my money's on 2x Wii Us + 1x GB Micro + blutack
  4. E3 2015

IT'S (almost) THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN, FOLKS! In just two short weeks, we'll all get to worship at the altar of rampant consumerism and cheer at grown men announcing toys on a stage in front of increasingly elaborate projector setups. We're gonna be talkin' 'bout E3 in Thumbs IRC this year instead of Steam Chat. Remember how to join? I've got my traditional bingo card all set.
  5. Splatoon is Ink-redible

It sure is! So this is the best thing Nintendo's done in a long, long time. As someone who normally never plays shooters, I'm strangely really good at this? I played a dozen or so matches, only lost once or twice, and was pretty consistently the MVP despite usually being the lowest-level player. Neat. NNID: UnitNumberFive in-game name: teg (19.2% Sno? You can do better than that)
  6. So who else has been playing BOXBOY!? Don't be deceived by its simple appearance: this is quickly becoming one of my favourite puzzle-platformers ever, and it's only five bucks. There's kind of a plot, even. I keep expecting everything to take some weird Fez turn.
  7. So Nintendo just announced they're making a turn based strategy game for the 3DS headed up by Hitoshi Yamagami and Intelligent Systems of Fire Emblem / Xenoblade fame. The game is set in a steampunk world where aliens invade and Abraham Lincoln creates a steam powered task force to investigate and fight off the aliens. Apparently the art style is inspired by silver age comics and we'll get to see footage of it tomorrow. Steampunk Abraham Lincoln.
  8. I've been replaying this via Dolphin with a 360 controller, and it's just as great as I remember it being. I think this might be my most favorite game of all time.
  9. Makin' a new thread 'cause I don't want to clog up the 3DS thread or rename the X/Y thread. So a bunch of stuff just got leaked from CoroCoro and posted on Serebii. Here's the rundown: New Mega Evolutions for Diancie (what? Diancie's not even released yet...), Sceptile, and Swampert. Mega Diancie is still Rock/Fairy with its ability listed as "???," Mega Sceptile is Grass/Dragon with Lightning Rod (what?), Mega Blaziken we already have, and Mega Swampert is Water/Ground with Swift Swim. Not gonna lie. New Swampert looks pretty ridiculous. Such tiny, tiny little legs. Also: ACRO BIKE CONFIRMED. Trainer redesigns are based on Emerald, so I assume this is actually going to basically be an Emerald Remake in much the same way that HG/SS assimilated a bunch of Crystal stuff. I quite like these new designs. The shoes are dumb, but never again will Brendan's hat be mistaken for hair. Note the new "Mega Bangle." I love that the Team Magma grunt uniforms remain pretty much the same while the godawful Team Aqua grunt uniforms got a complete overhaul. I hope these guys are still complete idiots. Also, new admins for each team. Steven "I collect rocks and rock accessories" Stone will have a Mega Charizard X and have a new storyline about hunting the secret to Mega Evolution. The only surprise here, to me, is that he has a Charizard. That's not rock-related at all! Not Mega Aggron? Not a new Mega, like, I dunno, Metagross or something? So here's the big thing people were wondering about: the cover legendaries are indeed new forms for Kyogre and Groudon. I guess they`re supposed to be a new thing called "Ancient Devolution," with the new forms being referred to as Primal, Prehistoric, or Primeval Kyogre and Groudon. No idea if this is considered a Mega Evolution or a Form Change or what. Oh well. Neat. So that's that! I'm guessing this stuff will all probably be seen at E3.
  10. So I started playing LTTP on Wii U Virtual Console. I've played this opening a dozen times, but somehow I've never noticed that you can speak to one out of the way guard manning the top of the wall. This one guard notices that the other guards are all beginning to change and succumb to Agahnim's control and reluctantly resigns himself to his fate. This one random NPC that I've never even seen before secretly has the most depressing story in this whole stupid game series. I think I need a moment.
  11. Somewhere deep in the heart of France Kalos, a young girl's life is about to be changed by a chance encounter... Our protagonist Tegan is many things: brash youth, bold adventurer, disappointed Wii U owner... but only today does she become a Pokémon trainer. After dicking around with some dweebs in a food court, Tegan is introduced to her first Pokémon; the fiery, fiesty, flamboyant Fennekin. Tegan and Fennekin take a short romp through a nearby forest, guided by the same plucky team of well-meaning stupid children. But only after coming out the other end and stopping into a Pokémon Center does she discover that some generous soul has deposited a second Pokémon into the PC, a partner that would change her life ...forever. Behold the glorious presence of J Allard, the specialty-bred Snubbull. Allard's profile reads as follows: Super duper! J Allard bursts onto the scene by immediately becoming paralyzed, then accidentally healing hisfirst opponent with Present. Whoops! Fennekin swoops in to save Allard's bacon, but fortunately Allardgains enough experience to level up and proceeds to pummel the snot out of some preschoolers and their terrible Pokémon. Allard's warpath continues back through the forest we had just crawled out of, levelling up all the way to Level 7 in just a few battles and "convinces" a Pansage to join his noble cause (through violence). Thus ends day one of... ~The Fantabulous Adventures of J Allard in PokéLand~ Time: 0:58 Allard Level: 7 Next Goal: take on the Santalune City Gym Leader
  12. Super Mario 3D World

It's about time we just made a thread for this. So the Nintendo Direct today closed with a crazy sizzle reel for 3D World which included showing off a bunch of crazy unlockable stuff and weird shenanigans. Basically this is looking like maybe the most incredible Mario game in years. I choose to believe that we're getting this to make up for all those NSMB games.
