  1. So who else has been playing BOXBOY!? Don't be deceived by its simple appearance: this is quickly becoming one of my favourite puzzle-platformers ever, and it's only five bucks. There's kind of a plot, even. I keep expecting everything to take some weird Fez turn.
  2. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is finally out! The main improvement, amoungst a lot of things, is that there's supported online multiplayer on the 3DS this time, instead of the WiiU exclusivity of 3. Some people mentioned that we should get some MP going for this forum, we totally should! I still need to do some single player before I delve into the MP though. Why should you play MonHun? Because it's an experience like nothing else, I think. Hunting monsters is a thrill, and observing the monsters to know their tells as to when they are weakened and close to defeat is satisfying, as there is no monster health bar to tell you otherwise. For those of you who are interested in MonHun, 4 is probably the best starting point. Much like FF and Persona, the numbered titles are in no ways connected to each other, so you can jump in now and not feel lost. There's a demo on the Nintendo eStore that's a really good indication of whether this game is for you or not. The tutorial is better in the full game, but I feel the demo does a nice job of getting you out there and doing the most satisfying thing, namely hunting interesting monsters. So who's got this game? And who wants to take down some Duranboros together?
  3. http://www.polygon.com/2015/1/14/7545635/harvest-moons-story-of-seasons-has-a-sublime-new-trailer It's no secret, I'm a huge Harvest Moon fan (Magical Melody on Gamecube is one of my top 3 F-GOATS). So naturally, I'm excited for this game. The Streetpass functionality and being able to visit friends' homesteads and share resources all sounds like like some pretty cool stuff. So... anyone else excited for this?
  4. So Nintendo just announced they're making a turn based strategy game for the 3DS headed up by Hitoshi Yamagami and Intelligent Systems of Fire Emblem / Xenoblade fame. The game is set in a steampunk world where aliens invade and Abraham Lincoln creates a steam powered task force to investigate and fight off the aliens. Apparently the art style is inspired by silver age comics and we'll get to see footage of it tomorrow. Steampunk Abraham Lincoln.
  5. Makin' a new thread 'cause I don't want to clog up the 3DS thread or rename the X/Y thread. So a bunch of stuff just got leaked from CoroCoro and posted on Serebii. Here's the rundown: New Mega Evolutions for Diancie (what? Diancie's not even released yet...), Sceptile, and Swampert. Mega Diancie is still Rock/Fairy with its ability listed as "???," Mega Sceptile is Grass/Dragon with Lightning Rod (what?), Mega Blaziken we already have, and Mega Swampert is Water/Ground with Swift Swim. Not gonna lie. New Swampert looks pretty ridiculous. Such tiny, tiny little legs. Also: ACRO BIKE CONFIRMED. Trainer redesigns are based on Emerald, so I assume this is actually going to basically be an Emerald Remake in much the same way that HG/SS assimilated a bunch of Crystal stuff. I quite like these new designs. The shoes are dumb, but never again will Brendan's hat be mistaken for hair. Note the new "Mega Bangle." I love that the Team Magma grunt uniforms remain pretty much the same while the godawful Team Aqua grunt uniforms got a complete overhaul. I hope these guys are still complete idiots. Also, new admins for each team. Steven "I collect rocks and rock accessories" Stone will have a Mega Charizard X and have a new storyline about hunting the secret to Mega Evolution. The only surprise here, to me, is that he has a Charizard. That's not rock-related at all! Not Mega Aggron? Not a new Mega, like, I dunno, Metagross or something? So here's the big thing people were wondering about: the cover legendaries are indeed new forms for Kyogre and Groudon. I guess they`re supposed to be a new thing called "Ancient Devolution," with the new forms being referred to as Primal, Prehistoric, or Primeval Kyogre and Groudon. No idea if this is considered a Mega Evolution or a Form Change or what. Oh well. Neat. So that's that! I'm guessing this stuff will all probably be seen at E3.
  6. Crimson Shroud

This is a great little jRPG on the 3DS eShop. It has everything I want from a jRPG (complicated battle system, slightly pretentious linear storyline) without any of the crap (unskippable cutscenes, huge stretches of grinding.) It also throws in some neat aesthetic references to tabletop RPGs: rendering the characters as figurines, having the player roll dice with the touch screen. I recommend it!
