Squid Division Posted January 27, 2011 I'd feel more inclination to play if there were more people on. I still think we should put something up on the front page/twitter like Jake put forth.
jennoa Posted January 27, 2011 I concur with Squid. I am all for letting the world know of Thumbstopia.
tabacco Posted January 27, 2011 Would it be rude of me to ask how much the server costs to maintain? $60/month for a VPS with enough memory to support Minecraft. What are we talking about here? We all want to play in the world we've spent hours creating, yes? We just can't login without downgrading the client, and none of us can be bothered to do that anymore.Nobody is say let's scrap the world, right? We just want the server to be compatible with the latest client. I only ask because the only posts in here for days were people saying they were tired of feeling pressured to play the game so they had stopped. I'll give Craftbukkit a try, but I don't have a ton of confidence in its stability. In the meantime, downgrading is amazingly easy, and the game hasn't been updated in a week or so (nor is it likely to with Notch on vacation for a couple of weeks)
elmuerte Posted January 27, 2011 I haven't logged in because: - needing to downgrade - having been on vacation - broken GPU
Nachimir Posted January 27, 2011 Nobody is say let's scrap the world, right? We just want the server to be compatible with the latest client. I'm in favour of keeping it, and am just pushed for time.
Jake Posted January 27, 2011 Downgrade management is why I stopped. A lot of my casual playing/tourism happened because I could play in a browser tab between tasks at work, and that became a less lazy-capable task when I had to start version managing. MrHoatzin Posted January 27, 2011 Needs more Bukkit.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted January 27, 2011 Downgrading is why I haven't logged in also (in case that wasn't super clear already).
jennoa Posted January 27, 2011 Yeah, downgrading isn't difficult or anything, but it prevents me from just casually logging on and messing around for a bit.
tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) I will try to install Craftbukkit when I get home tonight (it'll probably be late) Edit: Looking at it now. Bukkit appears to have put everything into plugins, which means there's a nightmare mess of plugins to install and configure. I may or may not have this done by tonight, but the server will be down for the time being, because I need to test the new one and I don't have the RAM to run two instances side by side on different ports. If you manage to log in and see a fresh world, don't panic, it's only temporary. Edited January 28, 2011 by tabacco
tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 The normal map is back online under craftbukkit, but for the moment nobody has permissions because I still need to copy them over.
a purple future Posted January 28, 2011 it works of course currently i can't even leave my house because of permissions, but whatever. success nonetheless.
tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 it works of course currently i can't even leave my house because of permissions, but whatever. success nonetheless. Do you not have permission for doors? That's no good.
a purple future Posted January 28, 2011 nope, can't dig, build, operate doors...
tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 nope, can't dig, build, operate doors... Okay, I'll look for a way around that. Even for thedefault group that's too restrictive. The current plugin just has two settings, build:true and build:false, so hopefully there's a better one or I can mod the current one.
tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 I don't have a solution to the doors thing yet, but everybody should have proper permissions now, and I've switched to a better 'Essentials' package that replicates the hmod functionality better. Let me know how things are working for you, and if any commands you need are missing.

tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 There doesn't seem to be a way to change the spawn-protect-radius yet, so I've moved the spawn patio a little further out.

a purple future Posted January 28, 2011 actually it seems more of a case of you can't set water at all. for me anyway. it's the only major problem i've run across.
tabacco Posted January 28, 2011 actually it seems more of a case of you can't set water at all. for me anyway. it's the only major problem i've run across. I think that's the plugin I was trying to use to limit fire. I thought I had it set up not to mess with water or lava though. I'll poke at it today or tonight.
