General Video Game Deals Thread

Recommended Posts

If the rumors be true and the sale does start this week, I'll probably be sitting most of it out too.  This month is bad timing for me, I don't have much spare cash.  I might get a game or two if there's a crazy sale price on it, but not likely.  What really bugs me is that I was initially planning to pick up a bunch of stuff on sale and run another giveaway contest like I did before.  Nuts.

That reminds me:

I have a copy of Xcom: Enemy Unknown that I don't need. If anyone wants it just give me your Steam name and I'll gift it.

After making a valiant attempt to unceremoniously blast through my backlog a few months back (let's just say I was quite active on the Quitter's Club), the timing of this sale doesn't seem terrible!  Though for the life of me the only game I can think of off the top of my head that I want to pick up is Skyrim (PS3 died and I miss the world).  Maybe Starbound?  Otherwise I feel like I'm all caught up on games I want.  Crazy!

I've decided to generate a wish list for this years sale. Anything not on that rather small wish list, I'm not going to purchase, no matter how good the deal is. It's basically Dark Souls 2 and a couple of indie games, so I doubt my bill will reach more than £50.

I've actually been pretty good, I finished all the games I bought in all of last years sales bar 2.

I can't seem to rid myself of the persistent thought that the last Steam sale saw you purchase a total of 2 games.

That sounds like Valve marketing spin. I'm pretty sure I bought about 6, of which I've not finished Dear Esther and Dead Space.

Dear Esther I've not tried, Dead Space I'm in the Quitters Club for.

That doesn't stop my back log from being huge though. I still have a game cube game in there.

For $10, plz. I've been aching for a new good FPS game for a good while.

But of course, 10 bucks won't happen.

I think Wolfenstein demolished everyone's expectations. I have this sneaking feeling is going to be one of my favorite games of the year.

The only game I bought during the whole GOG sale was Chronicles of Riddick. I'm so excited to play that game again. Michael Fucking Rooker is in that game.

Truth be told, I'm pretty much in the same boat, Griddle. I've got ~40 on my wishlist, but my actual mental musthavelist, specific to this summer sale, is for Gone Home at 75% (thank you trading card funds) and that's it.

My must have list is

Dark Souls 2, Metal Gear Rising and Transistor.

Possibly a STALKER game if one gets less than £5. I'm not really interested in Wolfenstein, probably because I have zero nostalgia for those games.

I have a few games on my wishlist but Wolfenstein is the only one I actually want, which is really surprising to me.  All the accolades it's getting has me really curious.  It's going to have to be a sizable discount for me to get it right now though.

There's been a set of "Mystery Cards" for a while now. I guess they're numbered so you can just up and collect the whole set already. It's weird. Whatever. WHEN'S THE SALE START GEEZ

i think i post this every sale, but i wish their sales would go back to being little interactive events. i think xmas 2011 or 12, they had a raffle for every game, and you could get tickets for completing daily challenges, usually involving games that were on sale that day. I totally bought a few $2.00 and less games to finish the meta badge.

I'm probably going to buy exactly zero games because I can't afford to with a $480 Destiny PS4 console pre-order in the pipe. :(

On the bright side, I'm playing all the games I got in previous sales. I'm sure I wouldn't have actually saved more money if I had simply bought them when I had time or interest to play them!*

*I'm actually sure I would have :-(

Cool, they actually do have a little game going on for this sale. I honestly don't fully understand it (the fact that Steam's servers are being destroyed right now doesn't help) but I'm glad there's something.

Only thing I'm tempted by in today's Steam Summer Sale is Witcher 2.  Anyone know if they continued with the whole Geralt sleeps with a woman and gets her soft-core porn trading card thing from Witcher 1?  That was the worst.

I don't really get the game, but I think you are putting into a team at random, which gives you a card and if your team wins... you MAY win a game from your wishlist?

This is sex, but it's not incentivized as a collectible, just as a thing you can do casually. Instead of a trading card, there's just a soft-core porn cutscene that goes for like 15 seconds. They're very male-gazey (focusing on the lady bits more than anything else), but they aren't gross and exploitative as the shit in Witcher 1.

Can you actually have sex with anyone that isn't Trish in Witcher 2? I want to say yes but I can't remember any... Well whatever. Witcher 2 is infinitely better about it than Witcher 1, yes. Still not perfect, but well the rest of the game is so good for me that I am willing to look past the flaws.
