I can't force myself to watch A Serbian Film. I am afraid of it on so many levels—is it snuff, is it good, is it watchable?. Should I try at least?

I'd say that If you can watch the Saw movies you can watch A Serbian Film, though everything packs more of a punch since this isn't cheap Hollywood slop, but what appears to be more of a serious political statement. Everything is shown, the camera doesn't pan away. It begins slowly, but by the end they've covered pretty much everything people can do one another. My biggest concern is what the child actors actually saw and heard during the production, but in that regard I thought Kick Ass was worse.

You should try. But yeah, it is quite sick and disturbing...but still watchable. I like the Saw movies, but this...is more. Also, some things are more sick and less acceptable than others...as Toblix said,

And, to put it in the exact words of one of my Serbian friends, who also enjoys movies like Saw and moreover, the sick Japanese and other despicable horror movies and considers watching them as a hobby, but thinks A Serbian Film is even more disturbing (and pardon the expression, but you're the only one here that can understand it so I guess it's...kinda ok): "Ma de brate, booolesno u p

I really hated the first Saw movie (the only one of the recent torture porn horror films I've seen)—because it all seemed so contentless. I reeeaaaallly hated Irreversible, which is mentioned by that review toblix linked.

Yeah, there's no obvious point to the film itself, and it's purely a challenge to the viewer. It's the director who introduces the context of being "molested by the Serbian government."

Well...I know a lot of people hate Saw because they think it's completely pointless...but I'm constantly trying to...draw people's attention to the fact that there is, in fact, quite a complex story behind it and it is told slowly, through the 7 sequels...is it too much sequels to spread a story through? Perhaps, yes. But there is a point and a story and if you bear with it and if you strip the movie of the gruelling scenes or just take them as a necessity, it's a story about the failure of mankind in the sense of its humane rudiments, and the twisted values that we cherish in today's society, when it's our own lives and the beauty of life in general that are actually valuable and which we should cherish.

And now, assault and objurgations ensue. Be gentle, people, I just like the movies and see something more besides severed limbs in them.

YES! Absolutely amazing, I can't believe they released it after all these years. I hope they got Stoltz's consent, as respect for him was always the reason they gave for not releasing it. I really hope they release loads of it at some point. If we're really lucky, Stoltz did a comedy out-take in the style of a stereotypical Mexican!

I finally got to see Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and it didn't disappoint. Edgar Wright is an extremely promising director IMO. Can't wait what he does next. Some of the fights were a bit too long, but apart from that the movie had impeccable comedic timing and very cool stylistic choises.

I watched Exit Through The Gift Shop, which I found to be really fun to watch. It's about this French guy who got this obsession with filming street artists do their work and then Banksy, an infamous street artist, making a documentary about that guy.

There are some questions, like if the film itself is an elaborate hoax by Banksy himself, but damn if it isn't a good watch. It's so awesome to see those guys working.

I watched Godfather part II finally yesterday. Took it's sweet time, I've been supposed to watch that since 15 years ago.

I don't agree that this one is better than the first one like many seem to say, but everything was stilll top quality. Acting, cinematography, musics... why I didn't watch this before, that is a question that will haunt me for a long time.

The movie is over three hours long, but I felt like time just flew by. Robert de Niro was great as the young Vito "Marlon Brando" Corleone!

The scene where he "finishes his business" with Don Fanucci was very dramatic, one of the best scenes for me in the movie

We also watched a tv movie called Flowers to Algernon, with Matthew Modine playing a man called Charlie Gordon, who is retarded, but wants to be a genius. Then a surgery makes him become more than a normal person, like a genius who goes beyond any level set by other brightminded people. This was a pretty low budget tv movie, but I heard from my wife that the book that this movie is based on was a huge hit in the 90's around the world. The book was telling the story in a really unique way as a diary, but the movie is just like any movie, just telling the story.

I've read the original book, it was really good. The book was a hit when it came out, I believe, in the late 60s, not 90s.

The only thing I liked about it was his roommate, and he was in the movie for little enough time that it didn't matter. I guess I forfeit my geek cred.

You don't need to be a geek to like that movie. None of the references were very personal or nostalgic for me. You like the movie because it's well directed, well written and has a terrific sense of comic timing.

Pros:

Morgan Godsdamned Freeman

Bruce Willis

Fairly funny (Keep in mind I have a weird sense of humor)

A better plot than The Expendables

The action is good, and most of it is fresh (there are some very overused action ideas, but most of it is new stuff)

Cons:

Bruce Willis (He is still a badass, but I'm not sure his acting style ever evolved beyond Die Hard 2. He has also aged. . .sadly, incredibly poorly.)

A few of the more climactic moments (or what I assume were supposed to be climactic) fall very, very flat.

Suspension of disbelief required in full (Shouldn't be a problem for you all, but still)

So if you want more of The Expendables and that other 'spy' movie that came out recently, by all means go for it.

Just don't expect Citizen Kane 2, or anything.
