"Ethics and Journalistic Integrity"

Recommended Posts

KiA is, once again, going absolutely apeshit over the Intel announcement.  There's a bunch of hilarious shit in there right now, about how Intel is nothing but a bunch of racists supporting and supported by other racists like Sarkeesian.

They worry an awful lot about the diversity initiatives of tech companies for a group who is organized around ethics in games journalism.

It's understandable. Intel pulling their ads from Gamasutra was seen as THE victory by the reddit and 8chan kids in their 30s. What they thought to be their fettered vassal and most prized trophy now spat in their face, quite an impressive wave of drool to boot.

Glad to see that Intel is taking an utterly clear side now, although of course I don't at all think that a perfect diversity quota would really be helpful against the problem. Raising the awareness level, however, which they clearly intend to do as well, may be a better step.

Well, it was rather clear what brand of mainboard embroidery my new PC this year gets anyway...

I took a quick look this morning, and laughed loudest at the thread title "Open letter to Intel: If you play with fire you will get burned".

From Intel's CES Press Conference -

HAHAHAHAHAHA

HAHA!

Edit: I had other thoughts but they were off topic and, upon reflection, malformed.

The article in question is even more laughable. It's here, should you want a chuckle, and it contains wisdom like:

Intel, I don’t want you to be pro-Gamergate or anti-Gamergate.

[...]
I just want you to sell me good products for good prices. That’s all.

Unfortunately, you are not doing that at all. You are making a stand with Feminist Frequency, a hate group that likes to call men “toxic” and goes so far as calling capitalism a breeding ground for racism, sexism, and transphobia.

So because they declared a partnership with Feminist Frequency, all Intel products are no longer 'good' or at 'good prices'. And yeah, man, stick up for capitalism! If you don't, who will?

I'm pretty dang capitalist but I always find it funny how people take personal offense to the idea that capitalism has some negative aspects. I mean criminy of course it does, they all do, it's a question of if they're acceptable and how to curb those aspects as much as possible.

The amount of philosophical enshrining that happens with these people really sends me for a loop.

They just don't fucking get it, do they?

Or they do and they're willingly spreading misinformation. I never know whether to pity them or think they're scum.

The internet has been such a powerful tool for the spread of information and ideas, and to connect together so many different people that previously would never have known that they even existed. So it is truly one life's great ironies that it has also enabled certain people to ignore information, spread misinformation, and to band together under a false banner that completely alienates them from the rest of decent society. Amazing. Hilarious, if it weren't so destructive. I wonder if Al Gore foresaw this when he invented the internet in 1999.

I hope everyone is writing to Intel to show their approval!

Thanks for the reminder. That makes a double-whammy after writing in about pulling those ads. That bad. This good.

Yeah, presumably gators will be emailing them to voice disapproval, so hopefully positive feedback will prevent any "we made a huge mistake" boxes from getting ticked over at Intel.

Remember the child porn fiasco and KiA's defense of it? Yeah, that's still going on (twitter timeline of gamergate supporters continuing to try and defend and deflect 8chan's policy).

Favorite two things of the last couple days: 1) Intel is BIGOTED towards white men 2) 8chan going down for a couple hours was CONFIRMED to be a DDoS attack from Brianna Wu

Circling the drain now

It's reading comprehension, as ever. Right below the quoted text, he included a screengrab of this tweet:

So he's obviously reading 'toxic masculinity' as 'men are toxic', and hasn't questioned this assumption because it undermines the rest of his beliefs.

In an opinion piece today, a Verge editor referred to GG as a "miserable online gang". I liked that.

There has to be something about nostalgia delusion in that description, really.

Been talking to far too many gaters today and will now try to get back to the zen version of myself...
