toblix Posted September 15, 2010 Anyone know if the original guys had anything to do with the remakes, or if it's just some laborers sitting in a room finding higher-resolution textures for everything? If the game is treated with as little class as the cover seems to be this looks like just a cash-in.
Kolzig Posted September 15, 2010 The little I know is that Fumito Ueda is supposed to be behind the high resolution version, so quality should be high unless the budget given to his team is on the level a shoestring budget? Ahh, these two and the original Katamari are the only reasons why I would like to own a PS2.
Thyroid Posted September 15, 2010 Shame about the cover. Would it cost too much money to make and package a decent box? It's not like it's hard to come-up with ideas, either. See: - De Chirico-inspired painting depicting Ico and Yorda escaping the castle, but instead of the bridge they run on top of one of the mammoth-like colossi. - Silhouette (the "Smoke Men" of Ico) that blends Ico with The Wanderer. Hard to imagine, but easy to do once you see it. (I see it.) He's against bloom lighting. - Picture of a Colossus carrying Ico castle on top of its back as it travels across the Forbidden Lands. Hints at Greek mythology. Some potential there. Anything with a weird art style that is a little true to the games could be good. This, for example, would look good on a cover if it were colored to look like it was done on glass, or on a Church window. Anyways. </blahblahblah>
thorn Posted September 15, 2010 I've been wishing and praying for this ever since I got my PS3. I never had a PS2 and wouldn't have known where to find either game even if I had. So, bring on 2011, I say!
Nappi Posted September 15, 2010 Yes! Finally, I can see why I never bought PS2 even though I really wanted to play these games. Especially Shadow of the Colossus; I played some Ico with my friend back in the day and Yorda started getting on my nerves. Also, Ico box art is a thing of beauty. It makes pretty much all other video game covers look incredibly bad in comparison.
MrHoatzin Posted September 15, 2010 When they release this in the west (if?), will the use the nerfed/rushed version of ICO that was released on the PS2 (as a launch title or shortly thereafter I think), or will they give us the finished, fancier Asian/European version? The presence of the fancier box art for ICO is reassuring (maybe?).
Squid Division Posted September 15, 2010 Sold. I never had much interest in ICO (and still don't really), but I really want to play Shadow and Colossus.
Irishjohn Posted September 15, 2010 YES. Day One, as I believe the saying goes. I played Shadow and Colossus once, at a display PS2 in a video game store in Ireland before it became a Gamespot. I loved the five minutes I played it, and all I did was ride around in a horse. I can't wait for this. I have read March 2011 though. MARCH 2011!!!! I guess it's not THAT far away. elmuerte Posted September 15, 2010 Ico Shadow & Colossus, Back in Action, day one perch.
dpp Posted September 15, 2010 Never played Ico, SotC is one of the best games I've played. Day one perch.
SiN Posted September 15, 2010 Now I've gotta buy a PS3. I own a copy of Shadow of the Colossus even though I don't own a PS2. I bought the game, borrowed a PS2 from a friend, and played through it over a long weekend. Definitely worth it!
pabosher Posted September 15, 2010 Shadow and Colossus are back, and this time... it's personal.
Raff Posted September 16, 2010 Hmmm... yeah I'm enough of a sucker to buy these again at budget price. I hate losing access to my games when I have to retire a machine. Luckily PC PS2 emulation is getting quite good, another year or two and it'll be spot on. God Hand already runs pretty well. Saturn emulation is quite advanced now (SSF), and apparently there's a reasonable Dreamcast emulator that's gone open source which should help that along. N64 emulation doesn't seem to be moving very fast but those games mostly aged horribly. What I really miss are a few Xbox games which were never given 360 support. There's an Xbox emulator making progress but apparently emulating what is basically a weird PC is really hard.
syntheticgerbil Posted September 16, 2010 Awesome, I was looking for information on this just yesterday and could find nothing! That's some crap cover art, but I guess Sony had a retort. When they release this in the west (if?), will the use the nerfed/rushed version of ICO that was released on the PS2 (as a launch title or shortly thereafter I think), or will they give us the finished, fancier Asian/European version? The presence of the fancier box art for ICO is reassuring (maybe?). Actually, I feel like this is the big question. I bought both the limited edition PAL versions long ago for both games (before they got expensive) because they had the most junk on them, but have yet to have played them. I think the Shadow PAL version only comes with a making of movie and some other extra thingy, but it seemed like ICO was a bit more overhauled for Europe. I probably won't buy this HD version and still continue to one day get around to playing my imported versions if they are not going to use the European releases. It would be a shame though, because if I were to sell them I could probably make an okay chunk of money on Ebay.
Kolzig Posted September 16, 2010 Saturn emulation is quite advanced now (SSF), and apparently there's a reasonable Dreamcast emulator that's gone open source which should help that along. It's a shame that Saturn is too much abandoned. It had some pretty sweet games that not that many people got to experience. I predict that will change now that even Radiant Silvergun, yes the super rare game from Treasure, is making it's way to the Xbox Live Arcade or what is it called? Almost makes me want to get an Xbox, all those cool old Sega games are suddenly coming to Xbox.

syntheticgerbil Posted September 16, 2010 European version on all regions confirmed. Hooray! Answered my questions almost fully, except the guy who wrote this article does not specify which game he is talking about appearing as the European version (although I think he's talking about ICO only because of the video link). So left to be found out is whether or not the extra making of video and gallery on the Shadow PAL release is going to make it as well. I wish the article tried to dig just a little bit deeper. Also :fart: on all the bastards in the comments sections bitching that his game is *only* going to run at 30fps. Fucking hell, it is not that big of a deal. Nachimir Posted September 16, 2010 That Kotaku story in toblix' post has been updated with Sony saying of the cover art: "Nothing to do with us. Here's a placeholder cover".
Thrik Posted September 16, 2010 Very much looking forward to this. I did get Shadow of the Colossus right at the beginning of my PS3 days, by which point I just couldn't get into it due to the jerky frame rate and low resolution. There's a brief teaser here by the way: 96yRr_LpMbU
