Ben X Posted November 14, 2011 This thing still needs a human operator Sorry to ruin the magic, Nach, but I think the guy in the grey booth just next to it is operating it. Would you like me to explain the ending of The Wizard Of Oz for you?
James Posted November 14, 2011 This machine is not autonomous. Sorry to ruin the magic, Nach, but this machine is not autonomous. What. (I think the confusion concerns the word "needs"; specifically, whether it refers to a general requirement, or one which is specifically at this moment unsatisfied. BBX took it to mean that the machine doesn't have an operator yet, and is therefore in need of one, and will have to occupy itself with grape-peeling until one arrives. What Nachimir presumably meant is that the fact that the machine is not yet advanced enough to operate without a human operator is the only reason it's practising skin-removal on grapes and hasn't yet moved on to its true target: humans.) Ben X Posted November 15, 2011 Ah! The thing that confused me about your post is that it will presumably still need a human operator when it starts doing surgery on humans.

Armchair General Posted November 15, 2011 DaVinci robots are already in use in real operations, with a surgeon at the helm of course. Apparently, so friends who have used them say, the cameras used give an excellent field of view, much better than the normal view and they are gaining in popularity as a result. Also, assisting in a robotic operation is even duller than assisting in a normal operation* *but then I am a physician, and therefore I am bored by most operations:grin:
