Roderick Posted January 21, 2011 Actually kind of amusing, in not such a bad way
ThunderPeel2001 Posted January 21, 2011 Now why couldn't they have done that 10 years ago?
Orv Posted January 22, 2011 From the music choice to the horrible pun choices (at least they didn't go with "He's really pissed" like I was waiting for them to do), I. . .sort of actually want to play this game again. Damnit.
Noyb Posted January 22, 2011 That was actually funnier than I was expecting... Why does it have the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World trailer music?
Jake Posted January 22, 2011 Offputting I was genuinely looking forward to this game for ages and ages, and now I'm entirely not.
CaptainFish Posted January 22, 2011 This didn't really do much to stoke my desire to play DNF. Seems like Duke is still Duke and actually funny. I haven't seen enough of the combat yet though, and the pig cop face grabbing looked pretty weird.
Roderick Posted January 22, 2011 Offputting I was genuinely looking forward to this game for ages and ages, and now I'm entirely not. Unless you're being ironic, I'm curious what you were expecting from Duke Nukem Forever that wasn't in the trailer?
Ben X Posted January 22, 2011 Noyb said: Why does it have the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World trailer music? It's Invaders Must Die by The Prodigy. Why wouldn't they use the same track as another trailer? It's irritating that they can say "FUCKING" but not show a man's wee or a lady's bottom. If you have to blur it out, don't put it in the trailer, pussies.
Quanta Posted January 22, 2011 It's irritating that they can say "FUCKING" but not show a man's wee or a lady's bottom. If you have to blur it out, don't put it in the trailer, pussies. It's blurred to not violate Youtube regulations. And it's in the trailer to show what's in the actual game. The game won't be censored of course. @Jake: What did you expect? This trailer shows everything what Duke is all about. I only played Duke3D. But I've always seen it as a well done fps put in a silly monster-sci-fi-soft-porno frame - with over-the-top violence, macho behaviour, immature humor and hot topless chicks. Kolzig Posted January 22, 2011 I was waiting for the iconic theme to be in the trailer. The title of the Prodigy song fits the trailer, but otherwise I didn't really feel it. Can't wait to play the game though. I wonder who is doing the musics for the game, I guess Bobby Prince is out of the picture at least.
mikemariano Posted January 22, 2011 This didn't really do much to stoke my desire to play DNF. Seems like Duke is still Duke and actually funny. I will likely play the demo for Duke Nukem Forever over and over again, and maybe buy the full game years after it comes out. Since this is exactly what I did for Duke Nukem 3D, I can't say that's a bad thing.
MrHoatzin Posted January 22, 2011 Offputting I was genuinely looking forward to this game for ages and ages, and now I'm entirely not. I totally agree... WTF... Was Duke3D equally fascist and I simply didn't notice it or what? It is bizarre to see an earnest 90s macho treatment in this day and age...
Orv Posted January 22, 2011 I totally agree... WTF... Was Duke3D equally fascist and I simply didn't notice it or what? It is bizarre to see an earnest 90s macho treatment in this day and age... Uhhhhhh, where did fascism sidle into this from? It's crass humor that I'm surprised they're getting away with, but not much more than that. Though upon re-watching, the game play looks. . .decidedly uninteresting.
a purple future Posted January 22, 2011 at this point i almost don't care if it's an unquantifiable mess. i'll likely buy it when it comes out just out of 10+ years of accumulated curiosity. that said, i never did play Daikatana

Though upon re-watching, the game play looks. . .decidedly uninteresting. Sometimes I tend to brandish words that technically not ideal for the situation kindof fit in a larger picture. In this case, I am using "fascist" as a catch-all term for a type of shameless, oppressively macho entertainment, as aggressively meaningless as it is viscerally violent. I have been known to describe all kinds of meaningless art as fascist. Blue bonnet paintings, for example, are fascist. As is most mall-grade art (e.g. Thomas Kinkade) and pop music. Basically, anything that is not degenerate art is inherently fascist.

Well Duke Nukem 3D was exactly like that... except it was done in a tongue-in-cheek manner. Do you think the trailer missed that kind of humour?

Kolzig Posted January 23, 2011 that said, i never did play Daikatana Oohh, I did once, it got okay after the horrible mechanical frog levels, but the game just totally crashed when the idiotic AI sidekicks got stuck on some wall and I couldn't load up earlier save or anything. elmuerte Posted January 24, 2011 back when first announced when that E3 movie came out when they re-announced recently this movie forever?
Kolzig Posted February 11, 2011 Can this be pre-ordered yet on Steam? I couldn't find it from there when I was searching for it two days ago. I seriously hope Bulletstorm doesn't steal potential customers away from Duke as the release period is in the same area. Bulletstorm is kind of trying to be like Duke, but it's nowhere near the importance of Duke.
Roderick Posted February 11, 2011 Earliest reporting on Kotaku (yeah, I know) suggests the game is pretty nice, in a low-key, oldfashioned way. Duke fans should be pleased.
Kolzig Posted February 24, 2011 This is cool if it would work for real. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33176/Gearbox_Site_Seeks_To_Identify_Recognize_Duke_Nukem_Forever_Contributors.php Would be nice to have the complete credits with all the people who worked on the game in various times during the years. Kolzig Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) I'd love to own the Ball$ of $t€€l version especially with a price like this in The Hut, Amazon's price was over 10 euros more expensive in US. Shame that it's already sold out on the pre-orders... But the regular price is also pretty sweet and I think I'm going for it as I still haven't seen this one in Steam and you also get the demo through the First Access Club and that demo release should happen pretty soon as Gearbox did promise the demo to be out before the full game is out. Regular price 29,93€ I found this one out today and I'm really wondering why it doesn't have a page yet set up in Steam, even Rage has a page already can be wishlisted. EDIT: Interesting that I found the PC special version still in stock at shopto.net, but I couldn't see the shipping costs before creating an account and it was whopping 31 pounds to Finland! Not going to order with those costs... So depressed right now that The Hut didn't have this available anymore, they were giving free shipping internationally... EDIT 2: Game.co.uk ended up being the hero of the day as they still had the BoS version available for pre-order and now one set is pre-ordered to Mr. Kolzig. All the stuff in the box is not that great actually, but the artbook should hopefully be worth it. They really missed their chance when they did not include lots of documents from the previous versions of DNF. The complete development history as a bible size book would've been awesome. toblix Posted March 22, 2011 This is going to be great: Apparently in Capture the Babe – DNF's Capture the Flag mode – when you grab the other team's babe, she sometimes "freaks out". The solution? Give her a gentle smack.
Erwin_Br Posted March 22, 2011 RPS is detailing it as a slap on the ass. It generated a lengthy and somewhat heated discussion over there.
