Dark Souls 3 {Dark souls 2 successor [Dark Souls successor (Demon's Souls successor)]} (Bloodborne's something)

I don't find the bosses all that fun in Dark Souls. I enjoy exploring the levels a lot more, so I'm generally willing to solo to get past something once I've been stuck long enough. If possible, I like to summon NPCs though, since you get some extra story out of it sometimes and it seems like a reward for doing some of the convoluted crap it takes to befriend NPCs in these games.

That's fair. I just think that some people get way too caught up in the self-flattering fantasy that they beat the boss all by themselves and that it's a compliment to their skills that they did so. I'm not built that way and I'm glad I'm not, because the courtesy and kindness of certain summons, who've patiently shown me how to beat a boss or navigate a gauntlet, has given me a pleasure that's equal to or greater than the pleasure of popping all the blisters on a tree-man's butt.

Yeah, I don't care at all how other people play the game, I don't think there's a pure or perfect way to experience these games.  After 5 of them though, I'm pretty comfortable knowing what it is I enjoy about them.  I played Demon's and Dark 1 a lot different than I've played 2, BB or 3, in a large part because of learning what it is that I want out of these games.  My first successful runs in both DeS and DaS1 were with casters, a character type that I barely touch now.  I bailed on my original DaS1 great weapon run because I hit a difficulty wall that I couldn't get past.

And the big joy I get out of co-oping generally comes from being the helpful phantom.  So far in DS3, I think it's lacking some of the best co-op areas of either DS1 or DS2, where you just knew you were helping someone get past a major bottleneck.  When 2 was new, I spent several evenings walking people through Earthen Peak, showing them how to burn the windmill, showing them the secrets.  Or escorting people through the Undead Crypt later in the game, particularly once it became a hotbed of invasions.

Edited to add:  I've already complained about this, but I really miss the Small Soapstone.  I loved just popping into someone's world for a few minutes to help them out with a difficult spot without needing to commit to going all the way to the boss to get a reward.

I just finished the game not too long ago. My hands are shaking and I don't have coherent thoughts about the last fight yet other than the fact that I don't know how I survived.

I was going to beat the Dancer by myself, but now, twice in a row, I cleanly dodged the one-hit-kill grab and then, a half-second afterward, magically appeared in the Dancer's hand, so fuck this boss and its glitchy moveset.

EDIT: Or... not? I just had six Sunbros in a row refuse to come through the fog with me. Most of them used the black crystal to leave my game, after greeting me and waiting by the fog for me to go through, but the last one just hung around outside while I was fighting the Dancer, increasing the boss' hitpoints but doing nothing to help. I beat it on my own, but this night's really soured my experience. I've never known the Dark Souls community to be like this.

It's a bug that sometimes prevents phantoms from going through the fog door after you.  It's probably related to your connection to each other, so turning off cross region matchmaking might help, but I can't say for sure.

I've summoned for at least three other bosses and never had this issue. It feels really weird for them all to come at once, and not to occur with the few white phantoms I summoned, but...

I've not been able to have a friendly summon join me for a boss at all, tried on two different bosses, maybe five or six times in total. Found some posts on the steam forums where people have had the same issue. Apparently the phantom doesn't get the message stating that they can enter the boss fog and are unable to do anything but black crystal out. A pretty annoying and severe bug I'd say.

Yeah, I've had it happen to me as a phantom multiple times now, and when it's happened if there was another phantom, it couldn't enter either.  We'd just gesture at one another, then black crystal out.  The first time it happened though, I ended up hanging out forever waiting to see if I'd be able to enter.

It's happened to me once or twice as well. i didn't summon for the Dancer fight, but maybe that's a particularly bad one for some reason?

I had trouble summoning for the Nameless King as well. Not so much that phantoms wouldn't come through the door with me as I just couldn't get any to work at all. I just got "Unable to Summon Phantom" messages for everyone I tried. It took a while, but eventually I got one to work and I got through the fight. But it was still kind of annoying.

I had the same issue, but I think it's because there are so many people looking to co-op there that summons are snapped up as soon as they put a sign down. I never waited more than 5-10 seconds when sunbro-ing the fight afterward.

Can I just say, I fucking despise the pvp in these games. I don't think it shouldn't be in the game, I think it's a worthy addition, but I think all the people that game the system and min max everything the best they can to beat someone can go to hell, pathetic asshats, that's not the game I'm playing, im not interested.

Roll roll roll roll roll roll roll roll roll

Play street fighter with a level playing field. Rolling around in your underpants with a ten foot sword wasting ten minutes of my life!? I just want to be done with this game, I just want to kill the next boss, but your standing around in MY game behind a wall of enemies wasting ten minutes of MY fucking time. How many hours of your bullshit life have you wasted to this fucking inane pursuit?

Meet me in street fighter and i'll eat your fucking heart

-----------

Dark souls shouldn't have rolling, if they ever makr another one: NO rolling NO invincibility. I'm in a ducking suit of armour for Christ sake! Why can I do rolly pollys

lol

I need to get DS3 so I can do some PvP. That's the exact reaction you go for when invading someone.

Yeah I've got some of those. Tbh I've only got like 1% of the game left to go. That item is just one of 200 items, weapons and armour bits I don't bother looking at. To be fair DS3 does a good job of explaining what everything does, I think its just a mind set I have left over from the first games where nothing made any fucking sense and I was scared to use an item incase it would screw me over in some way.

I'm playing through Dark Souls 3 and have been doodling each boss I defeat. This is my first Dark Souls ever, so this series of doodles will probably end fast, but here are the first four:

I've played hundreds of hours of Dark Souls 1, and have played everything from Demon's Souls to Bloodborne, and I have a question for the rest of you.

How are you finding the difficulty of DSIII? I thought it was easier than the others and I beat probably 2/3rds of the bosses on my first try, but obviously I know how to play these games pretty well so my opinion is completely skewed.

I found it harder than the others, but I think that's due to my Sorcerer build and many of the bosses being in small cramped areas and either having super dangerous long range attacks, or tons of ways to close the distance quickly.

Both, actually, I felt it was pretty easy through the opening third, then I thought a middle third was pretty challenging (Boreal Valley and surrounding areas), and then I've so far found the final third to be fairly easy again barring the Nameless King fight.  Not to say I haven't died, I have, but I haven't felt particularly overwhelmed by any area.
