Marek Posted December 3, 2004 Interior designer Interior decorator Interior architect Tell me: which is preferable?! I'm doing a translating job for, erm, someone who designs the insides of buildings.Like, the floor plan and the colors and furniture and crap. What's the best English term for this? Erwin_Br Posted December 3, 2004 Interior decorator, I think. But I'm just as Dutch as you are. Let's wait for someone else. --Erwin
Marek Posted December 3, 2004 Also how do you say when you're going to somehow alter your existing house or interior? I mean, like home improvement, but then as an active phrase? Is "reconstruction" acceptable?
Wormsie Posted December 3, 2004 Reason number one to hire a real translator...
Ninja Dodo Posted December 3, 2004 Oh good god, interior whatevers are the bane of British television! Renovation, maybe?
Salka Posted December 3, 2004 I've heard both Interior designer and Interior Decorator used. It depends exactly what he does I guess. If he puts in all the furniture and paints the walls and whatnot, I guess either is just as good. I suppose if he uses a lot of Gucci sofas, 'Designer' might make more sense. I'd go with Interior Decorator.
Marek Posted December 3, 2004 Renovation, maybe? Yeah. Reason number one to hire a real translator... They're getting it dirt cheap so they can't really complain.

Huz Posted December 3, 2004 Interior designer, mang. A decorator just slaps some paint on the walls.
Intrepid Homoludens Posted December 3, 2004 Interior Designer. 'Decorator' is an outdated term. And Interior Architect screws around with the actual structure of the building and is more involved with renovations and such.
Salka Posted December 3, 2004 Shut up. You're only saying that because you're a GAY JEW.

Salka Posted December 9, 2004 I've a question. On 'The Office' DVD extras, Stephen Merchant keeps pronouncing 'Gervais' as 'Gervaze'. I thought the 'S' at the end was silent. Is Stephen doing it merely to be irritating?! Or am I over complicating things???
baconian Posted December 9, 2004 he was introduced on parky as gervaze. that's what i thought everyone thought it was.
