Idle Streaming Community: Twitchy, Tasty

[Problem Machine]

I'm trying to get into the whole video game streaming thing now since all the cool kids are doing it, and I'm sure there must be other people here who are doing the same. Why don't we help each other?

 

This topic is intended to serve a few purposes:

1) To list everyone's channels, along with their broadcast schedules if they keep regular hours. I'll do my best to edit these into this first post as we go. This function might be better replaced with some kind of shared document, though.

2) To be a centralized location to share tips on stream quality and building an audience.

3) To organize joint casting opportunities, like streaming a CS:GO game or something.

4) To help each other gain followers by hosting or directing followers to each others' channels.

5) To provide a pool of trustworthy moderators in case any of our channels grow enough to have chat problems

Oh hello, I'll give your stream a follow since I like watching people play Souls games. 

 

I have a stream that I rarely use. I mostly stream StarCraft 2 and Heroes of the Storm, but I'll also stream short single player games sometimes if I happen upon them. I streamed my whole playthrough of Firewatch. I don't have a set schedule for my stream, however.

That's basically how I stream. Think the last I streamed anything was Salt & Sanctuary when I picked it up. I doubt it helps anything I'm not a big talker unless there are people I know or are interacting with me. Talking into the void is no fun (and can make your partner think you're crazy).

You might need to make sure it's set to capture that audio device rather than a built-in mic or something.

I've only just started streaming and will have an inconsistent schedule because of freelance life. But my aim is to focus on Creative streams where I edit trailers and stuff. If I play games it will probably only be from a "capturing footage for trailers" perspective.

I completed my first streamed game playthrough yesterday. Since Dark Souls 3 is unplayably framey on my computer (hopefully just temporarily until a patch comes out) ( :cry: :cry: ), I ended up streaming Titan Souls instead, which is still a pretty neat game. A complete single playthrough ended up spanning both streams pretty tidily.

I'm going to change my schedule up a bit I think. I'm finding streaming way more exhausting than I expected to, so I'm going to set up a lighter schedule. Maybe MTWR 9-10? I'll decide probably later today.

In the meanwhile, I've been streaming a quick-ish playthrough of Dark Souls 1, since DS3 is still a no-go for me and probably will be until they release a patch. I just wrapped up Anor Londo, so next stream we'll see how many lord souls I can get through in 2 hours.

Okay, wrapped up a week of streaming two hours a day. Went pretty well, but as I just mentioned I found it pretty exhausting. So! My new schedule's going to be Sunday 8am-10am, then Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8am-9am. I just wrapped up my Dark Souls replay and I haven't decided what to tackle next, yet. Maybe Mega Man X or something else retro, maybe more Nuclear Throne, maybe Spelunky? Dunno!

 

If/when Dark Souls 3 starts working on my computer, I'll probably go back to a more intense streaming schedule for a while to do that. Hopefully... soon.

I enjoyed your stream the couple of times I tuned into it! You do a good job of talking through your thoughts/actions while you're playing. That's something I often forget to do. It's not that I feel weird talking into a void, I just get too caught up in the game to remember to comment on it.

Thanks! Yeah, it's a little hard to remember to do but once you flip that switch and start vocalizing the things you're thinking anyway I think it comes pretty easy. The stuff like trying to enunciate clearly, avoid tics like "um", and trying to be entertaining when there's nothing really going on on-screen is the stuff I struggle with, but I figure I'm just getting started and can learn that stuff as I go.

Yeah I watched for a few minutes a couple days ago and you seemed to be doing a good job talking about what you were doing, but I haven't played Dark Souls and want to eventually so I had to turn it off

Also it's nice to take a day off. And by 'off' I mean replacing streaming video games with performing manual labor at my mom's house

Hm, so I'm having a really hard time maintaining a schedule, just because I always have a really hard time maintaining schedules. I'm thinking now that, since no one really watches live anyway, I'm probably just going to start directly recording videos to go up on youtube, aiming for maybe 1-2 30minute videos a day, and just stream for like 3 hours every Sunday.

Of course, again, that all goes out the window the moment I figure out a way to play Dark Souls 3, at which point I'll probably just set up a whole new schedule and play the shit out of it since, seriously, seeing everyone else play this shit while I can't is driving me crazy.

And for once the tomato is appropriate.
