Thrik Posted August 13, 2012 This thread might be a complete flop, but let's try! I thought it'd be nice to have somewhere we can share photos we've taken, and if there's an interesting story behind them even better. I got my first reasonable camera recently so I've been pretty much snapping anything I can. Few shots on and around a church wall I happened to be sitting on. I decided to poke the ant hole after and about a million ants came gushing out. My grandparents' ragdoll:
elmuerte Posted August 13, 2012 ragdoll is going to murder you. It's obvious from picture #2, and in picture #3 he's imagining how.
James Posted August 13, 2012 Is that imagined murder beyond the human genocide all cats are always planning?
Salacious Snake Posted August 14, 2012 That cat is great. I want to touch its face. Here is a cat: Here is a cat on my lap: Here is a train platform: Here is the interior of the bar car. State pride, yo: And since this message board revolves around games, here's a die:
Thrik Posted August 14, 2012 Splendid cat, although I'd be worried about those claws in the second picture! My favourite is the train platform. Seems weirdly empty.
Salacious Snake Posted August 14, 2012 Yeah, it was a dead time of day, and there's no reason for someone to be that far up the platform. It's weird over there.
Nachimir Posted August 14, 2012 Here are some photos I took today, messing around with cheesy bokeh effects. My brother lent me his DSLR with a 50mm prime. The depth of field at low apertures is so ridiculously fine you have to pay an absurd amount of attention to focussing; it's intersting to mess around with. Salacious Snake Posted August 15, 2012 Those are fun pictures! Nice dog face.
brkl Posted August 15, 2012 Did you make the cutout for the effect yourself?
Nachimir Posted August 15, 2012 Thanks, Wikipedia. brkl: Yes, messing around with a laser cutter and some polypropylene sheets. I drew a few symbols myself, and got some public domain ones from The Noun Project.
Thrik Posted August 15, 2012 Nice photos Nachimir, although I'm not entirely certain what I'm looking at. Haha, Brown. Excellent progression.
Nachimir Posted August 15, 2012 I only just noticed the cat's face in the second one! Thrik, I was doing this kind of thing: http://shutterskills.com/make-your-own-bokeh-shape.html But a bit fancier: http://ympt.co.uk/bokeh/bokeh-p-series.jpg You need a fast lens that can do shallow depths of field to get a lot of control over it; the more out of focus you can make the background, the bigger the bokeh get. Your camera might be a bit slow at f3.8, though it does have tiny bokeh in the background of that shot with the pebbles. (Apologies if that's still jargon to you )
Thrik Posted August 16, 2012 Hah, that's a whole kind of creativity I'd never even heard of before! Decided to make use of my cam's video capabilities for the first time, came out as a pretty good mood piece or background noise if you're into that kind of thing:
Erkki Posted August 16, 2012 and got some public domain ones from The Noun Project. The Noun Project is cool! I've found most of the symbols I needed for my board game prototype there.
Thrik Posted August 18, 2012 Short video I shot at the same time as the cat photos I posted:
brkl Posted August 18, 2012 I just took a lovely, although short vacation in Estonia (Tallinn & Tartu). Going through the 600 pictures is going to take ages. But here's a picture taken in a prison that was closed in 2002:
Thrik Posted August 19, 2012 Hah, awesome brkl — looking forward to seeing more. Absolutely love photography of dead/ghost buildings. Had another fun day out this weekend, so naturally lots of snaps. :XD:
Thyroid Posted August 19, 2012 Some of these pictures are great. I especially love the one with the old lady on the chair; it's so well-framed, and perfectly timed. The one of the old man on the chair has a beautiful paleness to it.
GuyBrave Posted August 24, 2012 One of my favourite photos I have ever taken...
Salacious Snake Posted August 24, 2012 I snapped some graffiti, too. Looking West from the Pulaski Bridge: A duck in Central Park: Yo duck, will you marry me?
Salacious Snake Posted August 27, 2012 Yet more graffiti. And this time it's a cat! BIDEO GAMES credit for above:
Twig Posted August 27, 2012 That Katamari thing is ADOR'BS.
Thrik Posted August 28, 2012 Love the Katamari. Also love the duck, I really like ducks and feel you can never take enough photos of them. Those clouds in the city shot are quite splendid also. Just come back from Leeds so I'll probably throw up some photos from there soon.
castorp Posted August 28, 2012 Also love the duck, I really like ducks and feel you can never take enough photos of them. Ducks are great!I like insects a lot. This is probably my favourite picture: Boy did I annoy that mantis!
