Patters Posted September 21, 2009 I was in stitches listening to this story in the podcast, and it actually hurts to watch it because it's so funny. Also, car defence. Sir, could you please back up! I guess the "I am punching a dude" sound effects are a vital part of kung fu technique. yeah, pretty much.
George B Posted September 21, 2009 Gameloft really has been squeezing out a surging mass of clones... I can appreciate how blatantly they are doing it too, it's almost as if iPhone development is the old west and they are making the laws up as they go along. Essentially Gameloft is Al Swearengen to the iPhone's Deadwood. Fun fact: Gameloft is run by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot's brother - *the more you know* Now how does one go about winning that copy of RE5?
Nachimir Posted September 21, 2009 The recurring "just like real life" was my favorite part, I was disappointed that that wasn't what Jake or Nick reacted to. I saw that phrase on so many internal forums for mod teams about 7 years ago, and it still makes me wince
salty-horse Posted September 21, 2009 You call this a wizard?? I assumed the podcast had professional wizard content...
Kos Luftar Posted September 21, 2009 Would have been awesome if you guys had recorded your conversation as you were watching this. Jake and Nick would have just said "WOAAAAAA" and laughed over and over again.
Hermie Posted September 21, 2009 Oh wow it's Ryan Davis of giantbomb. ._.
Chris Posted September 21, 2009 Would have been awesome if you guys had recorded your conversation as you were watching this. Jake and Nick would have just said "WOAAAAAA" and laughed over and over again. Yeah, I agree. It was completely unplanned, so we didn't think to do so until after we started recording the video itself. It takes two seconds to switch on FRAPS and start recording video, but none of our mics were turned on or anything. I'd love to do more game capture + commentary audio though. Erkki Posted September 21, 2009 I'd love to do more game capture + commentary audio though. You should do a Far Cry 2 marathon (with permanent death)! (just kidding)
Hermie Posted September 21, 2009 I'd love to do more game capture + commentary audio though. I would really love that! It would be really great to get your first-hand reactions to video games. Maybe play some old, lesser-known computer games PC titles that deserve to be highlighted?
Chuckpebble Posted September 21, 2009 So when are you guys gonna make that fire fighter game? It sounds pretty fleshed out.
Moeez Posted September 21, 2009 Kotick Inhibitor. @ChrisRemo: You will definitely see dead henchmen in Arkham Asylum, although never sure if the guards killed them, or just Joker for fun. This game has the best audio diaries (aside from Dead Space), because unlike in Bioshock where they have no purpose, here they're patient interviews. It's for the fans, but also for newcomers wanting to get into the psyche of these villains. Plus, you get lots of XP from them, to then upgrade.
elmuerte Posted September 21, 2009 I'm pretty sure I've once played a game that also had audio diaries which sometimes also contained completely irrelevant content. You know, instead of the stuff you'd expect. Maybe it was System Shock 2.
Razor Posted September 22, 2009 I'm pretty sure I've once played a game that also had audio diaries which sometimes also contained completely irrelevant content. You know, instead of the stuff you'd expect. Maybe it was System Shock 2. there was stuff about relationships but that was not really irrelevant IMO. It added to the atmosphere and maybe made you think "oh wow was that zombie I was just shooting maybe her boyfriend?" Also it gave a "life" to the ship in which you otherwise were pretty much alone. The game had some completely irrelevant content though, one which maybe was the most awesome one of it's kind. The GamePig! It was fantastic to sit in a corner, being afraid that every second a zombie could come around and kill you and enjoy your gaming nature by playing a simple Ultima 1 clone. Which also answers the question what would happen if a gamer would end up on a zombie infested Spaceship?
toblix Posted September 22, 2009 I remember there being some critique or ridicule of the Arkham Asylum level design, but I didn't really catch the drift before they moved on to something else. Could someone explain what the opinion was?
James Posted September 22, 2009 Gargoyles* on the insides of buildings, perhaps? Some people have been commenting on that. * They might possibly be more accurately described as chimera or grotesques.
toblix Posted September 22, 2009 Yeah, I got that, but I also got the impression there was more of a comment on the architecture as a whole on the island. I dunno, I may be all wrong and incorrect.
Nachimir Posted September 22, 2009 You always have to compromise between realistic architecture and fun. Deathmatch levels especially are basically follys in any other architectural terms. Arkham Asylum also has nonsensical orphaned vent systems for sneaking under people.
toblix Posted September 22, 2009 Yeah, but that's to be expected since crazy ventilation systems comprise more than 80% of all FPS levels.

It would be awesome if you guys were playing a game as you did a podcast. The guys at Kotaku tried this once. They were interviewing the Insomniac guys when Resistance 2 came out, so they were playing the co-op online and asking them about the question, but the guy who was recording the video, had no idea how to play the game. I turned it off after 2 minutes. I'm sure you guys will not fail that bad, well maybe Jake.
Shakesbeard Posted September 22, 2009 Perhaps a monthly video feature exploring and demonstrating the power of various wizards throughout gaming history? 5 or 10 minute snippets of classics like the WIZARD from Gauntlet. (oh my god look at that goddamn guy) or perhaps a special feature on cruel and unforgiving enemy wizards like the dreaded Eggplant Wizard from Kid Icarus? all of which could lead up to an Idle Thumbs World Exclusive in-depth look at the upcoming Diablo III Wizard? Indeed, the preceding post contained 5 instances of the word wizard. (now 6)
James Posted September 22, 2009 You always have to compromise between realistic architecture and fun. The latest Prince of Persia game didn't manage to achieve either for me. OOH, TANGENTIAL AND UNNECESSARY BURN.
mikemariano Posted September 22, 2009 It would be awesome if you guys were playing a game as you did a podcast. I am especially interested in listening to Nick play Civilization IV---or any strategy game, really. He always comes back with the best anecdotes. I especially liked the "Autosaving" story in Episode 33 of the podcast:
miffy495 Posted September 22, 2009 Just want to say, Nick, I also have the Gretsch and Ion Rocker. Don't feel ashamed, they're both fantastic pieces of kit.

syntheticgerbil Posted September 24, 2009 Fun fact: Gameloft is run by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot's brother - *the more you know* Yes, this is why they have so many Ubisoft ports, including some Rayman games that play like Sonic for whatever fucking reason with the limbless guy rolling into a spinball. Also, not being a Nirvana fan, I wasn't really offended by Kurt Cobain's likeness being used, but I was very offended by the crass commercialism of it all. Even seeing those stupid looking avatars on stage with him made me shudder. Johnny Cash is making Guiter Hero 5 too, I hear. Being a Public Enemy fan, I'm very offended by that awful Bring the Noise remix that will appear as exclusive to the game. I can't believe how terrible those screeching guitars were. They could have at least used the Anthrax version if they needed something with guitars. I guess it's not up to Chuck D though, since he doesn't have the ownership or publishing rights to any of those songs he did during the Def Jam era.
