Idle Thumbs 43: Jeff "Gone" Goldblum

Recommended Posts

Yes, this is why they have so many Ubisoft ports, including some Rayman games that play like Sonic for whatever fucking reason with the limbless guy rolling into a spinball. :(

Also, not being a Nirvana fan, I wasn't really offended by Kurt Cobain's likeness being used, but I was very offended by the crass commercialism of it all. Even seeing those stupid looking avatars on stage with him made me shudder. Johnny Cash is making Guiter Hero 5 too, I hear.

Being a Public Enemy fan, I'm very offended by that awful Bring the Noise remix that will appear as exclusive to the game. I can't believe how terrible those screeching guitars were. They could have at least used the Anthrax version if they needed something with guitars. I guess it's not up to Chuck D though, since he doesn't have the ownership or publishing rights to any of those songs he did during the Def Jam era.

Yeah, I don't think you need to be a fan of any particular band or artist to be offended by the way they handled the images of folks like Cash (he's

trust me, Cash would've wanted it this way) and Cobain (seriously, holy shit). Just a fan of say, music or taste or maybe even class.

If the Beatles: RB is a love letter to that band and their music, then GH5 is some kind of anthrax lined letter-bomb.

Nick: I was like holy shit it's Jeff Goldblum!!

Chris: Are you like a big fan of Jeff Goldbum?

Nick: Yeah, I fucking love Jeff Goldblum!

Chris: Wait, really, for real!?

Nick: Yeah, no it's fucking Jeff Goldblum!

Chris: I find that guy obnoxious.

Jake: You are the director and creator of great stuff.. did you tell him that?

Nick: No I was too afraid, I just took lots of pictures of him on my iPhone.

Chris: Who is a fan--who is a fan of Jeff Goldblum!? What is there to be a fan of!?

Nick: His appearances on late night television.

Chris: What, really!?

Nick: Yeah he's so bizarre! He's the weirdest guy, have you ever seen him!?

Chris: Is he more bizarre than Norm McDonald?

Nick: Uh, yeah but he's not as funny...

Jake: Norm McDonald is just drunk and stuff

Nick: ...so that's why he's more bizarre.

Chris: Oh I see.

Nick: Norm McDonald actually, you know, he has a thing going, Jeff Goldblum is just weird.

Chris: OK, well I'll have to look some of this up on YourTube.

Jake: So anyway did you take his shoe?

Nick: No, uh, but I did get a picture of him putting his shoes on.

Chris: Downloadable content thread!

Jake: I hate you!

That right there is some funny shit!

Dude you got every single one of our statements correctly attributed. You should win some kind of award. I've already seen somebody confuse Nick and Jake in this week's cast, and Nick wasn't even in the goddamn thing.

For the record, I have no idea why people find it difficult to tell you guys apart. You all have decently distinct voices. Distinct from each other, at least. Since I started listening to the Giant Bombcast (school starting up means a lot more transit time) I get freaked out every time the Vinny starts speaking because I think that Nick has invaded the Giant Bomb offices. If I listen to you two back to back, I can tell the difference, but there's a lot of similarity there I find.

I suspect it's easier for people in North America to tell Nick and Jake apart than for people overseas. Like that caller from Detroit said, Nick's has a distinctly Midwestern accent, whereas I don't know where Jake is from originally but I'd guess somewhere on the West Coast. But to someone overseas, I'm sure it all sounds like the same generic American accent.

I don't know, I'm probably one of the listeners farthest from the USA, but I never had a problem with telling them apart.

Me neither. To me Nick and Jake sound completely different.

I occasionally confuse Chris with that nerdy guy who is summoned to read some of the the comments and emails, however.

To me, Vinny (I think it's Vinny) sounds a lot like Jake. Not only his voice, but some of his mannerisms as well. Also, I keep trying to listen to the Giant Bombcast because so many people have recommended it, but I found it to be pretty dull most of the time. The last one they did I had to stop and force myself to come back to it 3 or 4 times. They seem like nice fellas over but I think I'm done with it.

It's not bad, but I take it in half hour chunks rather than listening to it all at once. Whoever thought that a 2 hour cast was a good length to shoot for, and then go over it every week, was bloody crazy. Then again, I'm always happy when a thumb cast goes over the 1:45 mark, so it may be a quality indicator as well. Still, they're funny enough to keep me coming back, and I do appreciate their inputs. Brad was always one of my favorite Gamespot guys back in the day, so a big part of it for me is him. Back when he was on the thumbcast was one of my favorite episodes. He fit in really well.

Brad Shoemaker is the man. I'd say I value all of their opinions, but some Giant Bombers' taste in games are really mind boggling to me. I don't have any references off the top of my head but while listening to any number of the podcasts I'd inevitably end up perplexed over something they said about this or that and that all of them agreed with it.

I'll probably give it another shot when I see or hear they are conversing about something that really interests me. I still like the site and the video features they do, and I suppose I could always skip through the podcast bits I don't care for.

Just completely give up on trying to explain who is who to people, personally I don't see the issue at all, but you should start episodes with

"You're listening to the Idle Thumbs Goldcast, I'm Randy Newman"

"I'm Baboo Bredon"

"and I'M Videogams Rodkin"

or alternatively

"You're listening to the Active Toes Wizardcast, I'm Snappy Remo"

"I'm Shadow"

"and I'M Collosus!"

So, I actually watched Batman Begins this weekend (I'd never seen it before.. late to the party, as usual) and for the first 20 minutes of the movie, The recitation of this card kept repeating over and over again in the back of my head....

It added a very interesting dimension to the film.. and the card, I suppose..

Dr. Jackstraw? :mock:
