There's an urge to compound them because multiplayer is one word, too, but "multi-" being a prefix, it doesn't really have any other choice. so it's video-games then? miffy495 Posted August 5, 2005 It's single player to me. Two words, used to describe a mode of play. It's a descriptive term. "This mode is for one single player." Like "Two player mode." It's not twoplayer mode on the old consoles that could only go that high, so it should not be singleplayer mode as well. Multiplayer is different because, as already stated, multi is a prefix.
