Jake Posted August 4, 2005 It really ought to be single-player, though. There's an urge to compound them because multiplayer is one word, too, but "multi-" being a prefix, it doesn't really have any other choice. so it's video-games then? "video-" not being a prefix and all...
Steve Posted August 4, 2005 English is a complex and beautiful language, composed entirely of special cases and exceptions to the rules.

miffy495 Posted August 5, 2005 It's single player to me. Two words, used to describe a mode of play. It's a descriptive term. "This mode is for one single player." Like "Two player mode." It's not twoplayer mode on the old consoles that could only go that high, so it should not be singleplayer mode as well. Multiplayer is different because, as already stated, multi is a prefix. That said, I rest. Edit: And no, I don't know what you wrote, Dingo. Please explain. I know three languages, but that is not one of them.
Thrik Posted August 5, 2005 From know on I will use the term "multiple player".
Dingo Chavez Posted August 5, 2005 Edit: And no, I don't know what you wrote, Dingo. Please explain. I know three languages, but that is not one of them. It's single(-)player in hebrew. Or is it?
