Duncan Posted March 5, 2005 So with no games that really interest me coming out between now and Psychonauts (and I don't think I'm ever going to finish Myst or Morrowind) I'm thinking about picking this up. I'm hesitant because the initial impressions seemed to be "wow, this game is funny and original and excellent!" and now it's kind of died down and become "it's kind of buggy and awkward and not that great." So has anyone here played it? What did you think?
steak-flavored gum Posted March 5, 2005 If you can find it for quite cheap, it is fun and amusing, but I really would suggest hanging onto your money or seeing if you missed any awesome older games. I like having it around simply because it is what I would consider the lightest and least in-depth game that I play, and sometimes I am just in the mood to play something like it. However, if you already own a bunch of these sorts of games, I'm not sure I could put my entire heart into endorsing it. Which is good because I need it. For living, and things. . JimmyTheFish Posted March 5, 2005 I thought the game was boring (allbeit funny) until I got the jetpack. Then I thought it was really fucking good. Then it got a little boring again, but all in all I would recomend it. I enjoyed it well enough. Plus you can buy it for like 10 bucks now.
SiN Posted March 5, 2005 its a VERY good game, but it definetly felt rushed. the game wasnt all that polished up, but the action was great, and the comedy was even better. if you can get it relatively cheap (<=$20) id say go for it SiN
David Posted March 5, 2005 My comments in another thread seem to indicate perhaps that I hate it. I don't hate it, I just want to like it a lot more than I do. The comedy aspects are great, it's just very far from being a perfect game. However, it's probably worth getting if you can find it cheap.
DustCropper Posted March 5, 2005 This game reminded me of Outlaws. That is, I was bored to death by the gameplay, but loved the cutscenes. They were pretty funny.
Kolzig Posted March 5, 2005 The gameplay became pretty repetitious very quickly. The cutscenes were the best part of the game, although not every one of them were that funny. Also the weapons were quite surprisingly great. It was quite strange that the game was advertised as a Havok physics game, but the only time I found Havok to be used was when your character Roman died. General Fuzzy McBitty Posted March 5, 2005 This game reminded me of Outlaws. That is, I was bored to death by the gameplay, but loved the cutscenes. They were pretty funny. I loved the gameplay of Outlaws. At least at the time, when the only other thing I played was Doom!. I'd like to see an Outlaws 2. I love westerns, and Western games are rare. The western mod for Half Life 1 was good, but lacked the humor.

Red Dead Revolver is a pretty good western game, Oddworld:Stranger is also supposed to be a western.
Duncan Posted March 7, 2005 Okay, well from what you guys have said I think I'm going to give it a miss. Mostly because I actually can't find it for less than $20. (US, that is.) Thanks, everyone.
MrHoatzin Posted March 7, 2005 I bought my copy of the game for 3 bucks in Big Lots or some such depressing store of stale merchandise in which I never would've expected to see games. Therein I also found Thief Gold for the same price.
MrChlorophyll Posted March 7, 2005 Three dollars. Three. Yeah, I hate you.
MrHoatzin Posted March 7, 2005 Funny thing, the manual for Thief was, erm, well.... there was no manual. There was just this CD-sized leaflet of glossy paper... and it was informing me how to install monopoly. The game didn't work straight out of the box; I had to tweak my machine for days to make it work.
MrChlorophyll Posted March 7, 2005 Ok well I just mildly dislike you then. $3, that's bullshit on a stick.
