It installs, but I believe WinXP has some Anti-Firefox code in it - the only dialog I can access is the Update window. Menus don't work, nothing works.

Uninstall firefox, go to the documents and settings folder, then the all users folder, turn on show hidden files and folders, and delete every entry you see that points to mozilla firefox.

Do this for every account you have on your machine.

And finally reinstall firefox.

Apparently (still) not enough of the profile files had been deleted. Strange, though, that Windows XP installation ruined it. Must have been the changes in the settings folder path or something similar.
