atte Posted September 26, 2014 Man, I played through ICO twice and I don't remember that song at all. Yeah that was an obscure choice... I have not played Ico since its release and just listened to the soundtrack now and then - I like the Beginning track very much and even had it as a wake up alarm years ago but when I now checked how and where the song actually appears in the game, it is very short and in the background. Badfinger Posted September 26, 2014 Aw, and I thought this quiz was a loving tribute to game music. I am normally quite cynical about video games, but at least their soundtracks don't generally have the potential (barring extreme edge cases) to be culturally offensive or intellectually insulting (although I can see how, if you're musically literate, a game's soundtrack can be just as, as you said, derivative as its actual story). Maybe it's because I'm not personally learned in music at all, but that makes relatively starry-eyed about that one facet of them, I suppose! It is a loving tribute to game music! It's not casting aspersion against your quiz or your selections. All your choices sound like the other quiz choices. Video game music especially from the 16 bit through ps2 era stuff is almost uniformly 4-4, basically the same time signatures, and often the same keys. They also very often share similar pitch and timbre profiles. The difference between The Sims and the rest of the music is incredibly stark. There just really isn't that much variety in game music. I would guess the easy way without professional software would be to drop some mp3s in Windows Movie Maker or the Mac equivalent with regular images, then put it on Youtube? I'll release an answer key/answer video in the next day or two - along with a 2001 Quiz, unless Tegan wants to do it for real, then I'll gladly clear the space. (Also, there's nothing saying you need a video - my friends and I used to do them with just a .zip file of .mp3s of the clips. It's not nearly as user friendly, but requires no video editing skill - not that mine required "skill" per se either.) Last call for answers to my 2000 Quiz, in the meantime. atte Posted October 7, 2014 4 has such a silly and fun gothic techno action vibe that after looking through the games released in 2001 I knew it had to be: Devil May Cry - Super Ultra Violet Besaid Island was driving me crazy for a short time, the track was so familiar but because FFIX was in the last quiz I thought there is no way it is FFX, just a year later. Also I was 100% convinced at first that 16 was from Gran Turismo 3 because I vaguely remember some smooth jazz in its menus and hey there's a car in the cover hint. Great choice from the MGS2 ost, I was intrigued by it but had forgotten the weirdness that is Arsenal Gear. I'd make one if I knew how to make one and played anything besides Nintendo games.
