VVVVVV 2.0!

Recommended Posts

I can't believe we don't have a thread for my personal GOTY.cx of 2010!

VVVVVV has been updated! It now includes new levels created by special guests, as well as a level editor! Now I can make all the spikes I want!

WARNING: The update wipes out your save games, meaning there is no record that I collected all the shiny trinkets. Tragic!

You reminded me that I just grabbed this as a part of the latest Humble Indie Bundle but haven't installed it yet! I'm gonna do that now, it looks pretty rad

*outpouring of delight*

Bought this last year and stalled on a later screen that I found impossible. Got this in the Humble Bundle too, looking forward to tinkering with the editor.

Awesome! I love music like that. I'm a huge Danny Baranowsky fan. SoulEye has a similar "retro" style.

I've never gotten the appeal of the Vuuuuuuuuuuuh soundtrack. Doesn't do it for me. Oh well!

Got Veeveeveeveeveevee in the bumble hindu tumble, finished it today. It only took two play-sessions (three if you count the 90 mins I played before the update erased my progress). Great fun! I too am in love with the soundtrack.

My single complaint is about the part where you have to escort someone. For a game that rely on such tight controls, the following is quite sloppy and imprecise. Otherwise quite superior, worth what I paid for the bundle alone.

Completed this today, after many, many deaths. Great little game with some cool tunes. The escort mission was definitely the most difficult, but the final mission was also pretty hard. Still I didn't get stuck for too long.. I think.

Still can't find my way into the hidden research lab, though. Very frustrating.

Here is my final (pitiful) score:

Certainly felt good to finish it, though

I think I had about 3 times your number of deaths. I also got way more of the trinkets though, including that damned-near impossible one where you need to fall up through 5 screens and then fall back down through them in quick succession.

That was far too evil. I'm sure that 2000 of your deaths were from that trinket alone!

Gave VVVVVVV a try. Got to the Tomb of Mad Carew, gave up. Both not enjoying the music and being terrible at platformers/anything requiring split-second finger dexterity means I'll never beat this game. :violin: Ah well.

(Though upon introspection, I can play the piano masterfully, so maybe it's a "where I'm looking =/= what my fingers are doing" disconnect. Whatever.)

(On the other hand, I'm thoroughly enjoying AYIM, so maybe it's Mario I don't enjoy vs say. . .what other thinking-platformers are there?)

Woohoo... managed to finish it. Didn't get all trinkets, and died a shit load of times (600+). Some rooms were really really reaaaally annoying, but still doable.

What's with the elephant?

I was under the impression that this game would be ridiculously hard but saving the crew members, at least, was quite enjoyable - largely thanks to generous checkpointing, I'm sure. The controls could have been more accurate or less sensitive, though.

Liked the music and the art style a lot. Very nice little distraction this game was.

I finally got this and several others gems with the Humble Indie Bundle 3.

Have to get playing it at some point, I love this game, I had so much fun and pain with the demo version.

So has anyone found a way to save the universe yet? I'm not even sure where I should be looking?

You need to collect all 20 trinkets. Yes, including that one.

Then I'd say, screw the universe.

I spent a few hours last year rising and falling, rising and falling, hitting every spike just to get that trinket. I entered another state of consciousness and became one with the game. VVVVVV is now a part of me.

Is it worth it? It changed who I am as a human being. So, no.

And a year later: It's still part of me.

Just finished it with 12/20 trinkets, but that also includes the keyboard smashing one. I just couldn't let it go. Took me about 1 hour and 500 deaths... ish. I found the end pretty tough as well. In the end I had 1200 deaths. Not sure if I want to go through again to get the trinkets, I don't even know where I missed any (considering the whole map is visible).

Great game, great atmosphere (C64-esque), and great soundtrack.
