Tanukitsune Posted April 20, 2008 I don't really have a TV, I use a USB TV tuner mostly to play video games than anything else, which worked fine.... until now! I got a 360 over a week ago, and had no trouble with the games I had bought... Until I tried CoD4 which came with the console... It told me that it was 60hz only game, and after some investigation, it seems there are NO USB TV tuners that supports 60hz! I'd get an internal one, but my PC is still rather new and still in warranty, and the TV tuners never tell you if they support 60hz or not.... Apparently there are LCD TVs that can be used a PC monitors, which would be perfect since I don't have the room for a TV and I could even get one with an HDMI port, but... Is it a good idea? twmac Posted April 20, 2008 A decent Samsung would allow you to plug a whole number of items in it. I did it for awhile when I was staying with a friend (the 360 and my laptop were rigged up to it). brkl Posted April 20, 2008 DVI only carries image (not sound), but in a similar digital format as HDMI. You can find DVI->HDMI converters easily. For example, my HDTV is connected to my computer with a DVI->HDMI cord. There is zero loss of quality. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Nachimir Posted April 20, 2008 Resolution to screen size of HDTVs isn't massive compared to monitors or laptop screens. I find it very comfortable to work with as a second screen, though a little disappointing when I expect the screen at that size to be much more detailed than my laptop display. Check exactly what connectors you'll need: The samsung TV my housemate picked up a few weeks ago has a VGA socket on the back, but the accompanying audio connector is a TOS Link, meaning I'll have to fart around with a minijack to TOS converter. There's pretty much no difference between the majority of them (other than the really cheap, which have shit build quality) as it's a digital signal that has to adhere to certain quality/distance/etc standards to qualify as officially HDMI. It looks like it would cost even more after international shipping! XP I think the Samsung Syncmaster 225MW will do the trick, it's actually a monitor with a TV integrated, not with TDT, but I still have that on my USB tv tuner! Coldkill Posted April 27, 2008 This is mine It currently provides vision for my PC, PS3 and I have a Digital Tuner plugged in so I can watch TV on it. Tanukitsune Posted April 27, 2008 I've tried connecting my Xbox 360 to the monitor and it works perfectly, but it doesn't work with my PC... Coldkill Posted April 27, 2008 You need to connect the PC before boot with the monitor on. It should pick up the monitor no problem then. What connection are you using for your PC-> monitor? JonCole Posted September 8, 2009 Monoprice is most certainly the best place to get high quality cables on the cheap. You'll never considering HDMI cables as "sort of expensive" after buying a six-footer at $3.56. Also, make sure you do some research about the video card you have/are considering getting, because a lot of the higher quality cards do have the capability to carry audio through the HDMI port directly from the video card. Otherwise, you'd probably have to do some DVI->VGA, HDMI->DVI, or DVI->DVI combined with a 3.5mm stereo cable sort of nonsense setup. A friend of mine actually just recently picked up one of the newer nVIDIA GTX's and it carries 5.1, which is pretty stunning. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Yeah, I think I remember hearing rumblings about forum spam weirdness from the podcast, so I can understand being cautious. If anything, I'm a robot that spends too much time looking for good deals online and reading tech forums so I can't help but preach the savings god that is Monoprice. I'll also back the monoprice recommendation. Like one of the guys above said, HDTVs tend to have lower resolution than most monitors.
