Off-Road Velociraptor Safari

Recommended Posts

Killed a what?

A pteranodon, from the Late Cretaceous (Coniacian-Campanian, 89.3-70.6 million years ago) of North America (Kansas, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota) was one of the largest pterosaur genera, with a wingspan of up to 9 m (30 ft).

There's a couple or so flying around the place. Kinda hard to kill, as the leaderboard shows.

1,062,350 Kapow!

That was nuts! I just jumped on my computer for a quick go of Raptor Safari and got this score on my first game!

Here's what happened (it's a little lucky): I started on the bridge bit where you're racing five raptors and ramp (and a large rock on the right). There's a little bump in the road before you get off the bridge and I decided to Boost just before to see if I could get the 50m flying raptor kill achievement. It's never worked before, but I felt lucky and lo! If I didn't only go and land on a raptor... after a 43m jump - doh! But what did happen is that we both (me and the dead raptor) went flying for miles, then I ended up rolling for ages, smashing into things and getting bonuses for damaging the car (because it was the first thing I'd done in the game). All told, that one move came to 420,000+ points! Then I just transported five raptors and whammy!

Also, listening to Use Your Illusion 1 by Guns N' Roses seemed to help, too. Perfect music for Raptor Safari! :D

Got 99 orbs... but no frickin idea where the other one is. I can say that none of the orbs where really that hard to find so far. I just missed them as I drove around.

I think the trick to getting a 10 second 2-wheelie is to drive to the invisible barrier. If you've got two wheels against it it still counts as a wheelie. I still couldn't get more than 4.2 seconds, but it's the best I've managed in the game at all. 10 seconds is a LONG time!

Anyone got an idea what the eggs are for? I've found two so far but you only get 3,000 points for a transport... way less than a dead raptor... seems kinda pointless??

Tip: To get the 3 Combo Meal achievement you just need to get a x3 multiplier when transporting raptors. The best way is to drag three dead ones to the transporter, dump two and once, and quickly grab the last one (the multiplier goes down fast!). I never understood what it meant until I got it by accident.

Thanks for the tip.

I'd been trying in vain before now to sticky 3 raptors together in a chain, using severed mace heads... :shifty:

Wow, happened into some weird glitch that ripped my jeep apart and sent it flying around 500 meters in the air. Before the jump I had about 400,000.. ended up with 1,549,500.. :shifty:

I'd say this is still fair game, as I'm convinced people are exploiting glitches in the all-time top 10.

Any objections, fellow scoreboarders?

That's what I was doing when I found it by accident... *sigh* They should make it a bit clearer methinks.

None from me... I just hope I find a glitch too! ;D

I can tell you that it happened when jumping into a tree (was aiming for a raptor.)

Aside from that I have no idea how it happened.

None from me. I've been getting glitches too, but more of the: "car got stuck on a crate when I was trying to export three raptors" and "raptor stuck under the car's wheels" and "crashed so hard it rebooted windows" variety. The last one was especially worrying. My install is pretty stable so to have the whole computer just REBOOT -- not slow down, not blue screen, not freeze up -- was, um, bad. It gave me flashbacks to the time when I tried to plug-in an mp3 player into a usb slot and there was a static discharge and the computer went down in an instant. Cost me a grand to fix. Luckily, this time it came back to life so it's not so bad. But it's annoying because I was in the middle of a good game.

Anyway, yeah, no objections.

Probably. This 99th one was the one hanging over one of the fucking lame ramps, at the end of a long cliff road. Every time you miss you have to drive a long way back to try again. But now it's mine! I have a sneaking suspicion the last one is hiding in between some of the rocks that are everywhere.

My greatest complaint in this game is that all the different ramps and jumps , seemingly made for awesome stunts, suck my dick. If you don't hit them just right, you just stop, and even if you do, you still slow down so much the stunt becomes horrible. The designers should play a couple of rounds of Carmageddon 2, the best stunt racing game ever to have graced computer storage to this day. That should give them some tips about how to not build ramps with fucking speed-bumps around them.

That's true Toblix, probably my complaint as well. Too often trying to do somethignt hat ought to be cool stops you dead in your tracks.

Also, I'm just going to reiterate:

I agree (about the ramps) what's the point in having them if they're not the most awesome jumping equipment in the game? They also "break" for no good reason. It seems like a stupid idea taking over for fun. I mostly just ignore them now and use the hills; they're much better equipped for jumps... although what's the point of your stunt bar decreasing as you fly through the air? By the time you land, it's used up!

Anyways - YES! - that was my 99th Orb too. I'm currently searching everywhere for the last one. I presume it's hidden away.

What's with the eggs?!

Tip: I managed to get a live raptor into a teleporter for a rather nice 160,000 points!

Working under the assumption that Flashbang can only work on one thing at a time, I'd rather they perfected Raptor Safari before they moved on.

Has anyone managed to get the Take Flight, Brave Raptors achievement? The best I've managed is 15 seconds, I can't imagine doubling it.

Also, I totally just nailed a raptor with an egg. To my disappointment, there was no special bonus points for that. Still no idea what they do, unless it's "just an easter egg."
