Hell almost freezes over, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. goes gold

Recommended Posts

Ladies and gentlemen, it has happened.

The game that has been in the making for at least six years, has gone gold. I repeat, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has gone gold. It's release date is 20th of March in USA and 23rd of March in Europe.

Strange that play.com sells the limited edition and the regular edition with the same price tag.

Oh, and here's an interesting preview by David Craddock at Shacknews:

I've been watching the trailers as they've come up on Eurogamer TV, and the game is looking pretty dated now. Also there is no hint of a plot whatsoever. Shame, as it was meant to pip HL2 with some of the stuff it did.

The main thing that can make it a success now is how much of the story is intact. For those wondering what the general tone was meant to resemble, read the short story Roadside Picnic, which is available on the internets somewhere.

I'm fairly certain the armed-to-the-teeth-and-butchering-mutants screenshots are enough to lay that hope to rest.

Also funny how the limited edition seems to have an RRP £5 lower than the normal version.

The game is kind of taking a big ol' poke at my long buried apocaphilia. It's a vice... :getmecoat

Back when it was big news I was interested, now its more of a "oh"/"meh" thing to be honest.
