Chris Posted January 5, 2005 Wow, Chris, that sounds great. You've totally won me over. I think I'm gonna go out and buy this game right now. You make it sound totally awesome.Seriously though... I don't know much about this game, but I take it that the movie of the same name is based on the game? If so (I realize this is slightly off topic), it would be kind of neat to finally have a film adaption of a game that's actually pretty good. Or at least, it is from what I've heard. I'm definitely interested in the game now. Anybody recommend any good reviews, etc for it? It's a blast and fun
SiN Posted January 5, 2005 It says it works on Mac. Anyone know if the game works with OSX or just classic? correct me if im wrong, but doesnt OSX come with an OS9 emulator? SiN
nsps Posted January 5, 2005 hermes: I have no idea..... is there often compatibilty-problems with os classic and osx? I don't know how frequent the problems occur. I know that the Mac version of Full Throttle wouldn't work. FT is a much older game, though. I used ScummVM to play it instead. While OSX can run older programs in Classic mode, there must be some sort of graphic conflict with Full Throttle. I do have a PC I can play it on, but it'd be nice to have it on my powerbook. hermes Posted January 5, 2005 well it seems like it's good code, in the sense that it was made for dos and win95 and runs fine on xp - so why not... I can't guarantee it though.... it says on the package that the system requirements for mac is powermac system 7.1.2 or higher..... don't know if that will help.... Salka Posted January 5, 2005 Chris, if your music doesn't work out for you, you could always work in PR for games. Hmmm, actually, I don't think it's at all related to the movie I'm talking about. You know, it's computer animated and has Tom Hanks in, voicing a character that looks suspiciously like... Tom Hanks? And it's called The Last Express? And it's new? Duncan Posted February 8, 2005 Awesome. You will enjoy it.
nsps Posted February 18, 2005 So I got it, and it is indeed quite cool. It runs on Mac OSX's classic emulator, one quick question though: Are the cut scenes animated, or just a series of stills that change every few seconds? I assume that's the style of the game, but want to make sure that the emulator isn't just messed up since I think the technology was a little better at the time. You get used to it. The Last Express is one of my favorite games. Everytime it's brought up in forums like these, however, I can help but feel sad because of the events that prevented the game from being the massive hit it was meant to be. I really believe that if this game had sold well, the adventure genre would be much better off today.
nsps Posted February 18, 2005 Thanks. I assumed that that was how it was supposed to be, but wanted to make sure it wasn't an error.
nsps Posted February 22, 2005 I just finished it, after ending early and rewinding many, many times, and have to agree that the game is indeed, "a blast" and "fun." (It didn't overtake Grim Fandango as my favorite game ever, though.) The whole Real Time aspect is a nice shift from the scenarios when a boulder is about to crush the town, but if you don't walk away from an area, nothing happens. There are lots of things to keep straight, especially before arriving in Vienna, and it's rather exciting to make sure you do so before running out of time. Does anyone know about the film shoot? I found online that it was done in front of a blue screen, so is the main thing it was used for rotoscoping actors? What is Mechner up to now (I don't think he had anything to do with the latest PoP)?
Duncan Posted February 23, 2005 I know on my copy of TLE they had a making-of thing which covered the film shoot, so maybe you have it too? Mechner I think is working on the POP movie.
