  1. [Released] Buried Treasure

Nice progress! The character looks really good!
  2. [Released] häx_processer

My current plan is not to limit the increments but to have a sizable margin in the solution recognition system so that players don't have to endlessly tweak the position. I will see what works the best once I'm a bit further. Did not make much visible progress today, as I focused on clarifying my code. I finished the terminal system, though, and added some placeholder audio. I will need to look for more interesting sound effects eventually. I quite like how 3D rotation looks in minimalistic 2D (the "flip" command). It is pretty disorienting too.
  3. [dev log] A Wish Upon A Star

I love the look of this game!

You are right. I'll see if I have time to extend this beyond the single line execution within the period of the Jam. I was already thinking of including continuous versions of the transforms (e.g. object keeps rotating in 5 degree intervals) where you have to manually stop the movement. This could be used as a quality of live thing, as a challenge (only continuous versions of the commands available on certain levels) or as a requirement to complete the level (e.g. the target shape rotates and you have to match the movement). You bet that I have already looked into voice activation! It seems that Unity has a voice recognition system that works in Windows 10. I hope I will have time to play around with it. The basic implementation seems relatively straightforward, but I bet that getting it to work somewhat reliably will take a lot more effort. Regarding the Esper soundscape: Audio feedback is so important. Entering commands and watching them being executed feels pretty boring without sounds. I added some placeholder clanks for the movement, and it feels better, but I still need to do a lot of work in terms of audio and visual feedback.
  5. Looks fantastic as always!
  6. [Released] häx_processer

Didn't have time to work on this as much as I would have wanted over the weekend weekend, but I managed to get the polygon drawing and the command interface done. I spent quite a lot of time on really important stuff like as-you-type syntax highlighting. After I have implemented the text log, I can focus on the actual gameplay.
  7. [Dev Log] Mystery of the Ravens

Nice! I liked those puzzles a lot in God of War and I think it can be really interesting as a core mechanic.
  8. [Dev Log] Sneksodus

This sounds very interesting! Snakebird made me realize how much can still be done in snake game space.
  9. [Released] häx_processer

Thank you all! I will try to live up to the mockup. Koholos: I definitely get that the gameplay might not be for everyone. Just to clarify, my plan is not to limit the number of moves or the time to complete each puzzle, i.e. you can align and realign the shapes as long as you want*. My goal is to come up with puzzles where the solutions are not very obvious so that once you finally get it right, you feel satisfied. However, puzzle design is hard, so we will see. * Though I admit that because I deliberately chose a very obnoxious user interface as the key component for the game, people might not want to experiment for very long. This is why I plan to keep the number of moving parts at a manageable level.
  10. [Released] Stream Frasier Online Free

Yees! I was hoping that someone would make a jam entry out of this title!
  11. [Dev Log] To Me, To Me, To Me

I like the concept and your idea about the aesthetics of the game! Looking forward to hearing what the goal of the game will be.
  12. I like the direction you are taking the game with this new version! And the visual style is very strong!
  13. [Released] Betrayal and Manipulation

Into the Breach is a great thing to be inspired by. Can't wait to see how this shapes up to be!
  14. [Dev Log] Pegasus Launch

I like the concept a lot!
  15. Red Faction: Guerilla

    Yup, this is fantastic!
  16. WIZARD JAM 7 // Welcome Thread

    Can't wait!
  17. I haven't played any of the earlier God of War games – they did not appeal to me at all – but I decided to give this one a go because the setting and the way the story was told was intriguing to me. While the continuous cut approach is technically very impressive, the big deal for me is that the developers had to weave all the necessary background in the story and the environment instead of relying on long cutscenes that take you out of sight of the protagonists. So far I have liked the flow of the story a lot, especially in the very beginning where I had practically no idea what had happened or where things were going. While the pacing is much slower, the way in which the world is revealed to the player reminds me of Mad Max: Fury Road. So far, I haven't felt the need to read the journal entries at all, and I hope it won't become "necessary" either. (I should note that the last action game I played was Bayonetta 2 and I absolutely hated how the story was told in that game, which may affect my liking of God of War.) I'm still not a big fan of action games in general, but the combat has been quite fun and intricate so far. Ranged, melee, and unarmed seem to vary in effectiveness drastically depending on what types of enemies you are fighting, which I keep forgetting about in the heat of the combat. There have been several fights where I ate shit almost immediately on my first try, but as I rethought my approach, was able to deal with it without having to bang my head against the wall for too long. I just hope that the game won't become too overwhelming as more mechanics and enemy types are introduced. Also, god damn this game looks beautiful.
  18. Missions that made you quit

All three Mafia games mentioned at this point, and while I eventually got through all of those games, I have to say that especially the first two ones had some insane difficulty spikes. The final mission of Mafia was really brutal, but at least that felt like a fitting climax for the game. Some of the earlier missions were almost as hard, as I recall, and got me really worried about the difficulty of the remaining missions. Mafia II didn't have nearly as many difficulty spikes as the original, but thinking about the game still makes me angry about a certain shootout at the docks. In Mafia III the difficulty was mostly connected with driving missions, whether killing gangsters or escaping the police. I think I lucked out and didn't have to repeat any of those missions that many times, but they could very well have turned into one of those super frustrating grinds.
  19. Movie/TV recommendations

When did they fuck up the opening credits, by the way? Can it be that the show gets good when the timing of the opening theme gets bad?
  20. Movie/TV recommendations

Yes, the show gets much better at some point in season 2. You will probably not miss too much if you skip the rest of season 1, since you already know the "key players". Then again, it has been a long time since I watched the show, so maybe someone else has better advice. Edit: what Ben X said.
  21. LucasArts adventure games on GOG and Steam

Escape from Monkey Island was the first Monkey Island game I ever played, largely because the release coincided with us having our first gaming-capable PC. I had heard of Monkey Island games but due to the fact that I didn't use to have a PC or subscribe to a computer-centric magazine, I didn't even know what the games were like, just that many people liked them a lot. My initial thought was that they were side scrolling action games. Most likely one of the only screenshots I had seen had been of insult sword fighting in MI1. Anyway, I liked Escape from Monkey Island quite a bit at the time. I had much more patience for poor controls at the time, I guess. After that, I went and played the previous games and was astounded by how fun they were.
  22. LucasArts adventure games on GOG and Steam

The Curse of Monkey Island was an instant (re)buy for me. I played through it several times as a kid but not recently. These games sure feel different when you understand the language and the references better.
  23. Something True 8: Babylon

This (fantastic) episode got me interested in Jack Parsons, and I ended up reading Strange Angel by George Pendle. It was a fascinating read. While Googling something about the book, I found out that there is a CBS drama of the book in the works. Just thought people might be interested. Also, I think the language bots discussed in Important if True may have been reading Aleister Crowley: [...] Roaming as Bacchus, with fauns and pards And nymphs and styrs for thy guards, On a milk-white ass, come over the sea To me, to me, [...]
