  1. Modest Tech: The NX Generation (Nintendo Switch)

Real or not, it looks real stupid and I can't imagine it being comfortable. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that it's fake and the NX controller (or NX itself) will look better.
  2. Aw dang, sorry to hear this show is ending so soon. Covering multiple games and multiple tournaments in 30 minutes per week was a tough challenge, I get why you feel putting the show on hiatus rather than put out half-baked discussions is a good idea. Good luck with your book launch, Andrew! And I'll see (listen to) you on Idle Weekend, Rob =)
  3. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

The online component of gen 6 was entirely why I bought a 3DS. I beat the E4 in less than 30 hours, then spent another 300 hours breeding pokemon and battling them online. I think in all of that time, I only ever disconnected twice.
  4. ES2D 2016/03/01: 2 Ass, 2 Spurious

They haven't mentioned StarCraft much either despite GSL and SSL getting into the swing of things. ES2D seems to mostly focus on only two or three very high profile events (usually weekend events) per show, so things get left behind. Also I'm guessing that they pay attention to which games' discussion gets them more engagement and so cater to that audience, which is perfectly fine of course.
  5. In case people don't already know about it, make sure "battle style" in the options has "set" selected, rather than "switch". Set forces you to keep the same Pokemon in when a trainer is replacing a fainted Pokemon. Switch will ask you if you want to switch Pokemon in response to their switch, which makes an easy game waaaaayy easier.
  6. Hahhahaha oh boy people aren't happy about the lack of information in that direct. It's 2:25am in Sydney right now, I stayed up just for this ^^ and I'm still not in bed yet. Pokemon why do you have to do this to me.
  7. I love RTS games and I've sunk over a thousand hours into StarCraft 2. I like that the game requires me to be doing something constantly but it definitely can be an exhausting experience. If anyone is interested in the co-op Archon mode (or the other co-op mode), I'd definitely be keen to play!
  8. Heh, someone hit me with a content ID dealio for the credits song when I uploaded my playthrough to youtube. I guess it's an automated thing, but the claimant doesn't seem to have anything to do with that song? Good song though, this game had great music.
  9. Firewatch Spoiler Thread | Henry Two Hats

Just finished the game, and I rather enjoyed it! I'm reading other impressions and there are a lot of people upset that it wasn't a horror game?? Or that there are too many plot holes or things otherwise left unattended. I didn't really mind, I liked what I played, and I wasn't bothered by the ending. I'm very much a "the journey is the destination" kinda guy so even the most atrocious of endings wouldn't really mar an otherwise good experience. My only real complaint is how often Henry would get stuck on geometry of rocks and branches; character movement is one of the most important things in a game to me since that is my direct interaction with the game. Also, in hindsight maybe I should have been playing with the subtitles on, since I think I missed a few things here and there and was actually confused about Brian's relationship with Delilah (just for a while).
  10. Splatoon is Ink-redible

ICYMI: The next Splatfest (weekend of the 20th-21st of Feb) is between POKEMON RED vs POKEMON BLUE Pretty exciting Splatfest theme, I'm #TeamBlue all the way, what about you folks?
  11. Finally got some solid play time into this; I'm kinda taking it slow/I don't like to binge on games so I'm only about 2 hours in and called it a night. I was accidentally an asshole so many times, oh man. Not even just during the radio conversations, man. I thought I was being helpful/doing what I thought I was meant to be doing, but no, I just turned out to be an asshole. Funny thing is, I tweeted something along those lines just yesterday. https://twitter.com/eRonin/status/697406214125125633
  12. The games that made you buy the system

While I specifically held off on buying the 3DS and Wii U until there were enough games I wanted out for them, the games that served as the catalyst for these purchases were: 3DS: Pokemon X/Y Wii U: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U I still have relatively few games for these consoles, but I'm happy with my purchase overall, since I'd say I've spent close to 1000 hours on the two consoles combined in the past 2 years.
  13. Wheeee played for 5 minutes just now before I had to uni just so I can see for myself what people on neogaf are complaining about with regard to the framerate. I don't really have a problem with it, high settings for me stays above 30fps on my ancient, underclocked-due-to-BIOS-issues HD 6950. Will play more tomorrow and stream it; I've got a date tonight :3
  14. Pretty excited for this game! I've never pre-ordered a game on Steam before, but I wanna support the cool folks who made this game. edit: I said "game" too many times.
  15. STREET FIGHTER 5 (PS4/PC exclusive)

I play Chun-Li almost exclusively; I find holding down a button to charge much easier than holding the direction on a stick. I have no intention to play Zangief in SFV haha
  16. You guys mostly focus on the big weekend tournaments and other major things like The International and Blizzcon, but right now there is so much StarCraft 2 going on I can't keep up with it. There's Korean pro StarCraft 5 days a week (2x GSL, 2x Proleague, and SSL) as well as IEM Katowice qualifiers with big names in attendance. Then there is BaseTradeTV stuff which is live so often I can't figure out when the casters eat or sleep. Anyway, I hope they find Life isn't actually guilty of anything, I don't know if I can handle one of the superstar Zergs being out of the picture. I think Zerg is really hurting atm; their best player seems to be Solar and he's still not as exciting as the players Protoss and Terran are fielding out atm.
  17. STREET FIGHTER 5 (PS4/PC exclusive)

I'm going to be playing with a keyboard because I'm a casual heathen.
  18. STREET FIGHTER 5 (PS4/PC exclusive)

Hopefully the PC version won't have very demanding specs, that's the one I'll be getting if I do get the game. Am I right in saying that there will be cross-play between PS4 and PC? I hope so.
  19. This game came out on the weekend and it consumed all of Sunday for me. It would have consumed Saturday too, but it was my birthday and I had guests that I needed to entertain. This game is so beautiful and even after all the youtube videos/screenshots I pored over, I'm still constantly amazed by how it looks. I've always been a fan of the core Xenoblade gameplay, and they've tweaked it here to make it deeper and more engaging. For those asking: no, there is no relation story/lore-wise of this game to the last. Still, a lot of the gameplay mechanics are carried over, including having a wide open plains peppered with monsters 50 levels higher than you. It helps create the feel that you're living in an actual ecosystem with a food chain, though, and 90% of monsters won't actually attack you if you leave them alone. So far the story doesn't seem as interesting as the first game, but the dialogue is way better and is keeping me entertained. I haven't felt like skipping any cutscenes yet, since the VA work is excellent in my opinion and the delivery of the lines is great. Despite the overworld being so beautiful though, unfortunately the home city, "New Los Angeles" is quite rough around the edges and look straight up like a PS2 game in some places. Still, it's a fantastic game and it's all I can think about right now. And how much I want to get into one of these:
  20. Xenoblade Chronicles X - good bye Earth

I'm glad that helped! One other thing I will say though is: at some point the game will tell you to level up either mechanical, biological or archaeological skills. Prioritise mechanical first; get that to level 4 before you even touch the other 2. Mechanical skill is required for planting data probes, which enable you to quick travel around the (gigantic) map, enabling you to explore better and complete quests more efficiently. Most probes require only level 1 but you don't want to run up to a probe only to find you can't plant a probe there.
  21. Xenoblade Chronicles X - good bye Earth

Given how broad the question is, this is my only advice: Read the manual! You can find a PDF of it here:https://cdn02.nintendo-europe.com/media/downloads/games_8/emanuals/wii_u_6/xenoblade_chronicles_x/ElectronicManual_WiiU_XenobladeChroniclesX_EN.pdf Or you can access it on your gamepad by pressing the home button while you're playing.
  22. Splatoon is Ink-redible

It's important to note that there skills which stack, and those that do not. Things like ninja squid and ink resistance will appear only on the main skill because these do not have a numerical value assigned to them and thus do not stack. They either give you the bonus or not at all. Ink resistance in particular is a huge boost, allowing you to move many times faster than normal when stuck in enemy ink. This ability was heavily nerfed several months ago, but from briefly perusing S+ loadouts, it is still considered a must-have. I feel very helpless whenever I equip a different pair of boots that doesn't have it.
  23. Xenoblade Chronicles X - good bye Earth

So I finished the main story tonight. I obviously won't write any spoilers because it seems most of the people who read this thread haven't finished it, though some of you seem close! (Or maybe have finished after your most recent post) I guess instead I'll just talk about things from a gameplay perspective. While I appreciate being tasked with finding good setups for both my skell and ground gear, some of the ways that the game forces you between the two range from passable to incoherent, across the various post-skell chapters. I don't think it's much much of a spoiler that you are expected to be prepared for both skell and ground combat in the final chapter; I just didn't appreciate the way the scenario forces you out of your skell for apparently no good reason. I feel kind of lucky that my weapons happened to be strong against the enemies in the final chapter; after looking up the final boss online, it turned out it actually has a few negative resistances, i.e. takes extra damage from some weapon types. I also feel like the final area was extremely uninspired and bland, especially when you consider how grand Xenoblade Wii's final boss fight was (apologies to anyone who hasn't played that). I also found interesting ways that the final boss could be abused by the game mechanics, but I decided not to pursue them beyond what I stumbled upon. I feel if I wanted to, I could exploit that to make it a super easy fight. Oh well, sorry for being so vague, I don't know how to actually do spoiler tags on this forum. I guess I'll be interested to what you all think once you're done with the game! edit: Oh and once I beat chapter 12, I decided to see if I could take on a level 65 tyrant with the setup I had. Nope, even level 65 tyrants stomp all over me still, no idea how I'm going to tackle the level 90+ ones. Should have just gotten tyrants to wipe out the ganglion.
  24. Recently completed video games

Oh my god I actually beat Xenoblade Chronicles X. It took me 85 hours to beat the final chapter, but this actually opens up more affinity missions (important character-based story quests)...so I guess I'm not actually done.
  25. Splatoon is Ink-redible

It's actually impossible to do anything about the gear abilities until you're level 20 and either: 1) have participated in a few Splatfests, thus earning Super Sea Shells, or 2) somehow have hundreds of thousands of money saved up already So don't even worry about it right now. Re-rolling your gear (by talking to Spyke the street urchin) costs 1 Sea Shell or $30,000 per attempt, and you are not guaranteed to get a good outcome from it. I've gotten a bit lucky and have some good gear that S+ players consider optimal. When I play turf wars I kinda just throw any old outfit together that I think looks good, but when I'm playing ranked I do consider the abilities on the gear I wear. I think it helps ever so slightly.
