  1. Smooth loop of singing audio clip

I definitely doubt this is The Best Way to do this, but I use bosca ceoil to just play the tones I want. For my latest fiddling around, that has been just single notes. It seems to work well. If you were to make an entire scale, it is tedious, but somewhat zen. I think Dinosaurssss pointed me to bosca ceoil for something else, but this is what I'm using it for at the moment.
  2. Smooth loop of singing audio clip

I like your game idea and gifs! I have never made my own sound clips, but I have been dabbling with some music/tone stuff in some prototypes in Unity. I have never noticed any issues with just using the loop property on an audio source in what I'm doing. All of my sounds are midi and don't vary at all, so I don't notice any transition in the looping. I could see if it was an actual human, then any small variation might be noticeable.
  3. I solved your game tape! The ending fan fare made the arduous journey worthwhile.
  4. The Unity Thread

I can only speak to the for each issue, as I went through and started optimizing things in my code one day and that was on the list of things to address. After removing about 70% of my for each loops, I saw no change in performance. If you don't overuse them, I think it can be OK. If you're designing for the PC, you could probably blow off that concern completely for something like a tower defense game.

That sounds like a fair way to serve up ads for MILE-AGE. I'm sure making it free will lead to a steady flow of downloads at least, which should help your future games and get you on some of the automatic "similar to" lists and what not. I'm really curious to read your post-mortem when you get it as 'zazzy as you think it needs to be.
  6. The Unity Thread

I was just about to start looking into CRT effects for a possible project I'm working on. This tutorial is a great start, although I might run in to similar problems you're having as I only want part of the screen to have that effect in a 2D game. I don't know enough about it to help you with your dilemma though... Maybe you could post sketches of what you want it to look like?

Focus on the raucous parties and throw in details about game making in the side bars! I know what you mean. It's one of the problems (I assume and from my limited experience) of working as a one-man team. It's hard to stand back and evaluate the overall picture and evaluate what parts you just got used to along the way that could be better. I hope MILE-AGE does well as a free version. I assume/hope you put some ads in there? Sounds like most games end up making more as ad-supported, which is irritating to me... but yet I hardly ever pay for mobile games, so...
  8. I missed the last one and would like to try to get in on this one. I have no Wizard Jam veteran input, but I like the ideas you guys are talking about. I will keep checking back and try to find ways to help out.
  9. Post Your Game for Playtesting and Feedback!

Hey guys, I posted this in the Amateur Game Night thread a while back, but I released my first game on the Windows Store recently. I took the little game I made for the Flappy Jam a couple years ago and made it into a "full game." Right now it's just on the Windows Store because that's what I had available to test and publish to. Install rate has been low, so if anyone else wants to give it a whirl and report back with any issues they have or give constructive criticism, that would be great! I published this thing for the sake of seeing what works and doesn't for people other than me and my family, so I'd love your opinions here, in PM, or through email (whogasgames AT-AT gmail period com). If you don't want to give me any feedback and just play it, well that would be great too! Get Frothy!

Cool, I was thinking of messing around with shaders. Thanks!

Well, the built-in unity ad tools don't work for the windows store and the few options that do work with windows either didn't work on both phone and PC or there was some other issue. I think there might be one that will work well enough, but I figured I'd try the free plug-in from a Microsoft guy. It seems to only support Microsoft ads now, but used to support AdMob. I will probably look into my other options now that I see the results of this service. I am pondering porting to iOS just to learn their side of things, and hopefully getting unity ads working will be easier. Oh, and I am starting to see some ad revenue, so they are working, I just think the PC side has no advertisers. If you're wondering, I have made 140 microdollars so far. The provided income plot's y-axis is literally in microdollars.

Yeah, you have no idea how much trouble I've had with these Microsoft ads. Believe it or not, that is not the test ad. I am wondering if nobody is buying ads through their service or what. On the phone I have gotten a real ad once or twice and the rest of the time it blips out, which the FAQ says normally means there are no ads available. It is too hard to tell for sure, though, and I don't know if I have a problem. Everything in their store takes forever to populate, so I am not sure there is a problem yet. I have decided to see how they look in a couple of days and then ??? I don't really know what the problem could be. Glad it's working well on a Surface! I had no way to test that scenario. Thanks for playing!

I decided a while ago to turn my Flappy Jam game, that you guys inspired me to work on, into a "full game". It still has game-jam-esque "retro" graphics, but I came up with 50 distinct levels instead of just generated differences as you advance. I released it on the Windows Store, mainly because I have a Windows Phone and no Mac with which to compile iStuff. Anyway, if you have a Windows 8.1 or later PC, you can also play it. I really hope people stay engaged enough to reach the end since I very well might have put more effort into the final series of levels than I should have. Anyway, if you can, give it a try. It's free and has ads only very rarely and they are very small. Thanks for the inspiration, and I can't wait to go back to my other project (or start something new). Oh, and that Taco Bell space game looks rad, Dinosaursssss!
  14. [DevLog] Space Boxing!

This looks really neat! I'm a big arcade game fan, so this sort of thing is up my alley. Sign me up for playtesting! I can normally drum up at least one other player, but possibly 2 more around the house for something like this. Let me know what contact info you need and I'll send you a PM.
  15. Free Music / SFX Resource - Over 2500 Tracks

I used one of your eerie tracks in . Just what I was looking for! Thanks!
  16. The Unity Thread

You used to get a free 30 day trial of pro, but I used mine over a year ago. Sounds like you don't need the Pro license now, but in case something come up later...
  17. Amateur Game Making Night

Seconded! Good luck at your booth. MILE-AGE is a great game, and deserves serious sales.
  18. Amateur Game Making Night

    That looks pretty good!
  19. Amateur Game Making Night

I wanted to practice using Unity's built in animation tools which I haven't used extensively, so I made . There are some things I would like to do better, but I think it turned out alright. I realized I haven't really drawn much in about 20 years. Anyway, I had a lot of fun making it! Looking forward to animating more soon. Oh, and that jaunty music is from Eric Matyas over at soundimage.org who has a running thread in here. Thanks, Eric!
  20. Free Music / SFX Resource - Over 2500 Tracks

I've been listening to tracks here and there for a while, and just found a use for one in a short demo I needed to make. I'll post it soon over in the Amateur Game Night thread, but I wanted to thank you for all of these! I used The Ant Hill Gang Goes West -- really seemed to work in my demo. Thanks!
  21. Games w/ Level Editors

I chatted with the guy who made Rekoil and he got his start with the Battlefield (2?) level editor. While looking up to verify this, I found a list of level editors on wikipedia that might help you find the best one for you. I like that Lode Runner is on that list since that's the first editor I ever used in about 1986.
  22. Amateur Game Making Night

I'm not the Thread Police, but I don't have a problem with this. In fact, I ran to buy it! I have only played a little, but it's fun, and I really like the art style. It reminded me of a plastic scrolling road toy I had as a real little kid... only much, much better. It's probably how I imagined that toy to be when I was 6. I'm looking forward to getting better and using the weapons more. Oh, the first time I loaded it up, it got hung up on the ghost after the logo words faded away. I shut it down, tried again and it zipped right to the start.
  23. Where to Find Game Assets (Audio/Textures/Models/Etc)

Man, I don't think you could have given me a better tool for what I need! This is really slick and fun. Having a hard time recalling middle school band know-how, but I'm getting there. Thanks a bunch! Also, I don't think Terry Cavanaugh can do anything else to make him cooler in my eyes than he already is.
  24. Where to Find Game Assets (Audio/Textures/Models/Etc)

Hope this is the right place to post a request instead of a useful link. Anyone have a resource where I can make an 8-bit ditty? I just need to string together maybe 10 or 15 notes that sound like they are coming out of an 8-bit system of some sort. It doesn't have to be super authentic, just want it to have the right sound. I could even use an 8-bit note repository and figure out Audacity if need be. This just seems like a thing someone would have made a handy tool for. I found this, which is cool, but seems overwhelming for my needs. If I can't find much else, I might dig in and figure that out, though... just trying not to get distracted by even more toys.
  25. This looks pretty slick and also sick! I'll be sure to keep up with the devlog too. Really interested to read about developing those underlying systems.
