Isn't there a thread for gifting steam codes? I got a few dupes in this bundle.

I've lived here for 29 years and I had no idea that the Aeroseum is a thing. And I love the Natural History Museum, it's a time capsule from the early 20th century. The only significant change they've made since I was a kid was the removal of a jar of conjoined twins from the cabinet of curiosities a few years ago. Same old musty whale and dusty elephant.

I think of it more as an episodic audiobook than a podcast, it's not the kind of thing you can give 50% of your attention while doing the dishes.

There's nothing quite like the taste of gingerbread that's been exposed to the elements for weeks.

It takes me forever to finish an episode of HH. I like to listen to podcasts while falling asleep, so I get through maybe twenty minutes a day over a ten day period.

There's a new episode of Hardcore History. Excellent as always.

Alien: Isolation, This War of Mine, Elite: Dangerous, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Lots of good colons this year.

I saw that thread and agree completely. I really hope the UE version of ProBuilder is released soon, that and the vastly superior audio tools are the only things I miss from Unity.

I didn't really pay attention to music this year, but I really liked A/B by 1982 and Aurora by Ben Frost. https://soundcloud.com/hubro/1982-18-16-exerpt-from-the

The Americans is the best thing on television right now, and no one seems to be watching.

You should check out The Peripheral, the new William Gibson novel. One of the protagonists basically does that for a living.

What font is that? Very nice.

Controller + keyboard is perfectly fine.

True, but it can also be useful to ignore the daunting fact that you'll have to spend god knows how much time on this project and just focus on something that can be achieved today. Whenever I feel like giving up I try to figure out if I've actually explored the possibilities of an idea and found them not worth pursuing, or if I'm just getting discouraged by the inevitable unexpected problems.

You need the 2013 Visual C++ thing: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

Playing in the editor does cause a significant performance hit, but there's just no getting around the fact that it's a new engine made to last many years.

It should run, but expect a single-digit frame rate. You probably wouldn't have a great experience even with a recent proper mobile GPU, it's just that demanding.

It runs just fine at max settings on my machine(i7, GTX 970), better than most UE4 VR demos, I'm guessing due to the small level. Unfortunately I'm basically immune to VR roller coasters at this point, so I can't say as to its effectiveness.

Transport missions getting cancelled happens to me constantly, to the extent that I've stopped accepting them. Also, what's with the insane cost of ammo? Fuel is almost free. I just bought a pair of multi-cannons and took a few bounties, but I still ended up losing like 500 credits.

VoiceAttack sounds like what I need, I just hope it can deal with my moderate Swedish accent. How do you handle throttle left/right? I tried binding it to the stick buttons, but for some reason pressing the right one disables the stick.

Try docking(or doing anything) without flight assist, there's a challenge. I find the latest beta to be incredibly unstable. The last time I started the game I spawned inside(as in inside the mesh, not the docking bay) of a station, crashed my ship into an inner wall trying to get out. Also, I really wish they implemented a function key so that each button could have two uses. I'm using my Rift and a 360 controller, so supplementing with keyboard shortcuts is not very practical.

I started experimenting with C++ with no previous experience of the language. It took me about seven hours of frustration and humiliation to make a passable first person character, something I can do with blueprints in less than an hour. It's incredibly verbose compared to C# in Unity, but oddly satisfying.

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth
bakelite replied to colinp's topic in Strategy Game Discussion
It's not a bad game, I just don't care about anything that happens in it. Alpha Centauri had interesting characters and its ideologies were natural continuations of real-world politics, Beyond Earth just has three vague ideologies which seem to have very little impact on the game beyond unit upgrades. Also, no drones. I need them. -

I kept moving the camera in front of doors just to watch those lovely hand animations.
