sclpls Posted September 30, 2013 Regarding unwinnable states in old adventure games, that was definitely a thing. I don't think that was the case for any Lucas Arts games though, as it was definitely a hobbyhorse of Ron Gilbert's to make sure that never happened, a clear indication that he was and remains a sharp game designer. syntheticgerbil Posted October 2, 2013 Except for all of those unwinnable states he snuck in the Humongous games. Putt Putt Gives Up™.

There were unwinnable states in Gilbert's Maniac Mansion and Last Crusade, weren't there? Plus in Zak McKracken (don't know about Labyrinth). It was only around Loom/Monkey Island that they decided to avoid them.
Tanukitsune Posted October 2, 2013 True, but at the same time, you could still beat Maniac Mansion as long at least one character was left live I believe? And Maniac Mansion was so much "kinder" than any Sierra game, each character had two paths, so if you messed up one character's ending, you always had the other. Sno Posted October 2, 2013 For years, i thought adventure games were bullshit, and it was because i was first exposed to Sierra games.Making a game unwinnable because of something you did in hour one, fuck that.
