Erkki Posted June 8, 2013 Looking for recommendations for what cool things to do in SF or nearby. Vague plans so far: * Yosemite * Muir woods * Subbes' something-0 + 1 month birthday? * hang around in the city of SF a day or two * eat a lot of sushi * maybe visit Napa Valley * maybe visit Standford or Berkeley campus (I forgot which one of those someone recommended to me) * maybe visit Alcatraz * maybe visit relatives near SF My free time there falls between 19th and 27th July. toblix Posted June 8, 2013 You should visit that winding road that's named after a PI or something. And ride the tram! And go to that beautiful old movie theater if it's done. And is SF sushi particularly great?
shammack Posted June 8, 2013 You should definitely go to the Müséé Mécãnįqûé. Lots of cool historical arcade-machine-like devices. Admission is free; you just need quarters for whatever machines you want to play. That's basically the only thing I've ever done in San Francisco so I don't have any other suggestions. Except if you want to tour Alcatraz you should plan ahead because I hear it tends to sell out days in advance.
melmer Posted June 8, 2013 Idle thumbs meet up! When: 20th July at 2:00am Where: Outside Sean "Famous" Vanaman's bedroom window What you will need: 1x Latex full head Obama mask "I'm a huge fan of the show! Can I please use your bathroom"
Erkki Posted June 8, 2013 And is SF sushi particularly great? Compared to Estonian sushi? Yes.

subbes Posted June 9, 2013 I spent today in the Golden Gate park and it's pretty cool if you like plants and things. There's a science museum and an observatory there, too.

Did you go to the Academy of Sciences? If so how is the white crocodile doing? Every time I see it it looks like it wants to die.
subbes Posted June 9, 2013 No, we were scouting the park for something else and by the time we finished it was almost 7 so too late to go to the Academy. I want to go next time I visit though.
ysbreker Posted June 13, 2013 You're there one week too late, Erkki! I'll be returning home on the 14th of July.
Salacious Snake Posted June 13, 2013 This doesn't seem to fit in with your style based on the itinerary so far, but the only place I know in SF is the 21 Club in the Tenderloin. Shit is off the wall. http://www.yelp.com/biz/21-club-san-francisco
subbes Posted June 15, 2013 Unfortunately, the Real Escape Game events near those dates appear to be sold out. Escape From The Magic Show may have tickets at the door if they have no-shows, but no guarantees. DAMN that Real Escape page is hard to figure out, but I think July is back to Escape From The Mysterious Room, the listed dates in July stop on the 21st, and all tickets are sold out. mcarter78 Posted June 15, 2013 The 49 mile scenic drive through SF is very cool. Also, I second the Müséé Mécãnįqûé, although it is right in the middle of Fisherman's Wharf, an area of the city I usually try to stay away from at all costs. Also, the new Exploratorium is now open which is IMO the best science museum in the world. You might have to fight some pretty heavy crowds there though. Another similar suggestion would be the Lawrence Hall of Science in the Berkeley hills which has an AMAZING view of the entire Bay Area.
