Spawn of Thumb!

How many of you Thumbers have children? I know Pilgrim and Wrestle do but what about all the rest of you? Own up!

Proud Dad moment:

My 12 year old son casually playing a ski jumping game on my brother in law's iPad t'other day...whoops BiL's score, said BiL spends rest of the day frantically trying to beat it.

All of a sudden a whoop is emitted from the grown man only to turn to utter dejection moments later as he realises he's only good enough to come 4th (behind the top three scores owned by my son):fart:

The look of sheer ownage pleasure on my boy's face was fantastic :yep::tup:

My children's love of computer games *I think* outstrips mine, even as a child. It's only a matter of time before they are thrashing me at Mariokart etc.

Anyone else have personal gaming history moments with your children/neices/nephews etc?

I watched today my brother's 8 years old son play Super Mario 3 and Cave Story for the first time in his life. It was quite amazing to see him learn tricks by himself so fast. That was pretty proud uncle moment for me. I taught him just some little stuff and he himself took the lead.

My girlfriend's younger sister (like 12 years younger than her), had a good Mario Kart DS battle going on with me one afternoon. She already knew where everything was on the maps though and refused to let anyone else play Yoshi (not that I was wanting to) so I lost every time.

She also sometimes calls me up sometimes for hints on certain games, but then she gets all strangely shy and awkward on the phone so it gets pretty silly.

I don't know if there's much in the way of pride for her since it's not my spawn. Also if that were my kid, I would not allow her to play so many Hannah Montana type games. Her mom just tends to buy her whatever piece of shit is on sale as opposed to games worth the money.

I have a nephew that was recently granted heavily restricted access to the internet. One of the provisos is that I show him around "the 'net" and make sure he has a good time. Step one? Turn off voice chat. Step two? Proceed to get my ass kicked for a good two hours by a ten year old whose entire time with the game. . .was that two hours.

As SG said, it ain't the fruit of my loins, but it's impressive and makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. And then I go cry in a corner because I ten year old beat me.

I don't look forward to the day my super-aggressive niece on the other side of the family realizes I can be her conduit to violent video games, since her parents are. . .religiously restrictive.

Well, I've kind of had the reverse effect. I've taught my entire family the baboo, and they're well aware of what Idle Thumbs is.

If you don't, she'll beat you.

I've had the opposite thing. My brother and I have to find good DS games for our Mom every Christmas because she devours and annihilates them. Even games like Pokemon which are long, complex, and sometimes very hard.

Well, despite her rather advanced age compared to the aforementioned nephew (he's 9, she's 15) she's now just starting to realize "hmmm, maybe my super-religious parents are crazy. I wonder what X thing I've been locked away from is like"

So I don't forward to getting pitted against her frighteningly acute observational skills. She'll probably make a good FPS and RTS player. And I already get beat by people I don't know. :violin:

I sat around with my cousins playing Halo 2 about 3 years ago. The middle of the three was pretty ace at the game. I reckon that in the separating 3 years he is has overtaken me.

Or, he has become obsessed with cycling like his older brother.
