Tanukitsune Posted July 14, 2010 So... Thanks to Playstation Plus I've discovered that the PSN store has all the PSP games I've been waiting for decently priced, but.... when I bought my PSP I bought it with the smallest memory stick possible, which isn't big enough for having PSP games on it, so I need to buy a new one. Unfortunately, all the sites I've found only have the biggest and most expensive in stock, which is 70€... Wait, doesn't the PSP Go come with a 16G Memory Stick? But it's even more expensive than 70€... But wait! Doesn't it come with 10 free games in Europe? Gran Turismo PSP MotorStorm: Arctic Edge LittleBigPlanet Wipeout Pure Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice FIFA World Cup Need For Speed: Shift Avatar Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines Also, it's "only" 220€ if I get it online? The thing is, it's mostly racing games, which I'm terrible at, but... I want to get better at them? Just how terrible is the PSP Go? It looks like I'm going to sell 70€ for the stick, would it really be such a bad idea to spend 150 more and get the Go with all these free games? I knew about the 10 games before, but then I didn't know I needed a new memory stick... I'm actually debating whether if this is a bad idea or not...
Boris Stoke Posted July 14, 2010 I honestly like the PSP Go except for the fact that Sony really doesn't seem to add games to the PSN store often enough. But sure, if you're mostly interested in games that are already listed then it's not a problem. You just can't take advantage of sales often.
Tanukitsune Posted July 14, 2010 Since I have Plus now, I'd be getting two Minis and a PSOne game each month, so I'd be getting something each month for my PSP anyway?
Xeneth Posted July 14, 2010 Let it be known up front that I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to "the inside scoop" on Sony products, as I lack a PS3 and my ancient PSPhat sees almost no action these days... So, from a pure value perspective the things you're outlining seem desirable enough, but there's one last hurdle I'd make the PSP Go jump over before I allowed it into my wallet, and that's form factor. I have huge hands, and I seriously doubt that the smaller form factor, smaller screen, and teensy-looking little shoulder buttons would work for me, but maybe you're proportioned a bit more normally. That being said, I've never actually tried holding it my hands and hitting all the buttons, maybe it's not as un-ergonomic as it looks. See if any retailer would be willing to let you physically grasp a floor model at some point, and then mentally extend your experience how ever many hours into the future you tend to play in a sitting. JonCole Posted July 14, 2010 The form factor looks great for me. And I love digital distribution, despite the fact that I'm still a little cautious about having Sony be the single channel to acquire content. The biggest problem is price, for me. We don't have that promise of 10 free games here, in fact most bundles only include one or two games. Beyond that, the product is significantly more expensive than the PSP-3000. I'd love to have a PSP Go because it looks like it'd actually fit in my pocket, but price is a huge issue.
syntheticgerbil Posted July 14, 2010 Assuming you want to play 70% of those games that come free, it seems well worth it, otherwise I'd say stick with what you have and see if you can find a larger memory stick cheaper.
dpp Posted July 14, 2010 Sony Europe is kicking America's ass when it comes to product promotion, at least when it comes to the PSP Go and PSN Plus... the problem is what they have to promote, both are a really tough sell.
Tanukitsune Posted July 15, 2010 My hands can handle the GBA Mini, so I don't think I'll have a problem with the Go. I just looked up the prices of some of the games and some are still full price, making the deal sweater, like I said before, I don't actually hate racing games, I'm just bad at them, but I also want to get better at them? I think I might actually give this finding a new Memory Stick a go, but they all seem to be out of stock, I ordered one online and the bloody thing has been "waiting for stock" since I ordered it, despite it saying it was in stock... I wonder if Sony did this on purpose to force people with a PSP to buy a GO? Since game stores are failing me, I might look for one at the local PC component store? Since they are also used in cameras, does that mean I could get one in a camera store?
miffy495 Posted July 15, 2010 I got an 8 gig memory stick from a camera store, so yeah. You don't need an official PSP branded one, as so many people seem to believe. Mine isn't even a Sony in any way. Works great, and I actually do put a lot of time into PSP games. I think it only ran me about $25.
Tanukitsune Posted July 15, 2010 Sweet! The that opened recently right in front of my apartment says they'll have them in stock! So, now that's out of the way.... Does anybody know if it's easier to import JP PSP games or should I just get a JP PSN account and find a JP PSN card? If so, where is a site that I can trust and won't rip me off? :B
Cigol Posted July 15, 2010 You might want to look at the deal from ShopTo, it's still relatively expensive but you seem to get a lot for your money, especially with the PSN voucher on top of the free games. But it doesn't come with a memory stick, it has internal memory, and if you do have memory sticks for your normal PSP they won't work in the PSPgo since it uses a different format. 16GB sounds like a lot for the PSP but it will only suffice for games, if you start adding music, movies & comics it disappears fast. I have an 8GB Samsung and 16gb Sony for my PSP 3000 and I still have to use MediaGo to organise stuff between them and my PC. You'll also have much more trouble importing games digitally (like the recently released Persona 3 Portable) to the extent that if you're like me you won't want to bother since it involves a lot of faffing around just to switch between imported and non-imported titles. With the older PSPs you can just import the UMD and it's no problem, the PSP doesn't care, but with digital titles it is region locked so you have to keep swapping it between regions/accounts. You also miss out on a quite a few good games if you rely on PSN alone, whether you'd need to import them or not, since not all older games are up, and not all *can* go up (luminees has licensing issues for example)... but seeing as you already have a PSP I guess that's not a big deal. I actually do put a lot of time into PSP games I've been playing on it more than my PC/PS3, and I haven't even gotten around to some of the newer titles. It's annoying owning a Sony console though, since you have to constantly read how much of a failure it is and how there's no games for it...
Tanukitsune Posted July 15, 2010 Well, now that I'll have the Memory Stick, I don't think I'll get the PSP GO... What is the PSN voucher deal? 20? 20 games? 20 €? I just see a 20.... Isn't importing more expensive? The shipping alone is likely to double the price? I'm also thinking about purchasing the import PSOne games at the PSN store... I bet some of those games cost 100€ physically instead of 10€?
Cigol Posted July 15, 2010 What is the PSN voucher deal? 20? 20 games? 20 €? I just see a 20....It's a £20 PSN card, so you can add £20 to your PSN account and spend as you please.Isn't importing more expensive? The shipping alone is likely to double the price? With Persona 3 Portable I think I paid little more than £4 for shipping to the UK from Canada at video gamesplus.ca and it took around a week for delivery. It cost a few quid more, but I felt it was worth it even though I prefer digital copies and dislike UMDs.It's not that there's anything stopping you from importing digitally, I just find the whole thing to be a pain in the ass because you have to switch accounts/regions on the PSP every single time - and each time you do you're locked out of the other regions content until you switch again. When you've got a lot of digital content and you like to play them all rather than focus on just one game at a time it's a bit of a turn-off. At least for me anyway, other people don't seem to care so your mileage may vary, especially if you're buying lots of import games where I would only buy one or two every year or so. Raff Posted July 15, 2010 Is every UMD game ever available for download? If I was to buy a PSP Go would I be able to buy Gitaroo Man Lives?

Tanukitsune Posted July 19, 2010 HA HA HA! I finally found the 8GB card and... it looks like my UMD reader is faulty because I get the home screen at random (which happens if you open the lid) and the battery is dying.... But wait! There is more! I called Sony support and... they can only replace my PSP for 120€! I can get a PSP 3000 for 140€! How can anybody think or replacing it? Argh! Nobody seems to have another solution....
syntheticgerbil Posted July 19, 2010 Well that completely sucks. Any chance of returning the card at this point and just going with the PSPGo?
Chris Posted July 19, 2010 Apparently you can play PSP games on a TV with a PS3 controller if you have a PSP Go. Can any owners verify whether that's the case? Apparently there's a video out, and the Go is the only model that allows Bluetooth connectivity of a DeulShock 3 controller. If this is the case, I might actually considering getting a Go. I don't care about playing PSP games when I'm out, but there's some stuff, like Peace Walker, that I'd like to play normally.
syntheticgerbil Posted July 19, 2010 They all do video out to a TV via component or A/V cables (at least 2000 series and up I can confirm), but a search shows that only the PSP Go has bluetooth capabilities so it should be the only one capable of using a PS3 controller. My regular one can do remote play with the PS3, but I've never seen any kind of option of using the controller available. Also I saw on another forum someone say that the video output cables are different for the regular PSP series as opposed to the Go.
Tanukitsune Posted July 19, 2010 Well that completely sucks.Any chance of returning the card at this point and just going with the PSPGo? I didn't buy the card at the game store, but why buy the Go when I can get the 3000? I'm only interest in one or two of the free games it has to offer. Raff Posted July 19, 2010 I think it's been mentioned before, but not every game is available, but you can google to see if it is? Looking round the horrible PS store website, it would appear not to be available, rendering the PSP Go a total brick.
Tanukitsune Posted July 19, 2010 I looked a bit more and it looks that quite of few of my games are not available yet... I'm going to have to get a PSP 3000, since my PSP 2000 is dying I'll need something to play the nearly two shelves of PSP games I have... And the GO is not going to work for this... Xeneth Posted July 19, 2010 It really doesn't sound like having anything to do with Sony's handheld platform is easy... I'm not quite in the market for any new Sony stuffs, but this thread makes me shake my head and frown at them.
