Lu Posted December 14, 2009 What the hell. I just got a hard-crash in Left 4 Dead 2 and now they're doing maintenance to the Steam servers and thus I can't play or join up anymore? That's annoying to say the least... Am I the only one that got thrown out?
Patters Posted December 14, 2009 What the hell. I just got a hard-crash in Left 4 Dead 2 and now they're doing maintenance to the Steam servers and thus I can't play or join up anymore? That's annoying to say the least...Am I the only one that got thrown out? We returned to lobby, and I can't rejoin, assume it's the same for them.
Scratch Posted December 14, 2009 Nope I can't connect either. Says servers are down for maintenance. Checked out the steam forums and there is scheduled maintenance.
Lu Posted December 14, 2009 Scheduled? Where did you find this, because I only managed to find: I've taken one of the Steam database servers down to do maintenance. Its partner is online, but running a little more slowly than normal. We've taken down Steam Community to reduce its workload so that it will catch up faster. I'll post notes about our progress here as the situation develops. Seems kind of weird to announce maintenance as you're doing it. Also, if I have to google something like this because I can't find it on the Valve/Steam main site, then they're doing something wrong to begin with. In other news. Well, it was news to me. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. Please be free for PC, please be free for PC, please be free for PC.
Scratch Posted December 14, 2009 Yeah just saw the DLC news as well. Sounds cool. But I doubt they'll make it completely free. They do have this "DLC" system in place in Steam, and I'm sure they will make complete use of it.
James Posted December 14, 2009 Particularly since the DLC interface was introduced in the L4D2 release Steam update.
Lu Posted December 14, 2009 I'm doubting, because that goes against everything Valve has been saying for the past few years. You know, your game as a service and the number of times they said that they wanted to treat L4D2 the same way as TF2, etc. I'd be disappointed if they did let PC users pay for it. Brannigan Posted December 14, 2009 The dlc tab is in l4d2 because of the preorder bat. The dlc funcionality has existed in steam for the past year or so. Most likely the pricing blurb in the press release refers to the xbox version.
OssK Posted December 15, 2009 I have nothing to say, but I posess that game now, it is mine, I bought it, I play it, and it is good. I will gladly impose my presence rudely and make your game fail and/or be a weight you'll have to drag around as I did to patters if you'd care to have me. Scratch Posted December 20, 2009 Off topic: I recently installed Windows 7 and for some odd reason the steam notification sounds don't play when they are supposed to. For instance, when I get msged or invited to a game the little "plink" sound won't play at all. This is problem because I won't pay much attention to steam when I am preoccupied with something else, unless I hear that distinct sound. I have already checked the settings wherein they are enabled. Even found the location of the sound file in the steam folder (where it plays just fine). Any bright ideas?

Patters Posted December 20, 2009 Game was intense, the swamp map for scavange is probably my favourite by a long shot.
Scratch Posted December 21, 2009 Loved the intense games tonight. I truly apologize for the early "lobby tennis" shenanigans. If I had remembered to configure the server ahead of time, I could have saved us the trouble.
James Posted December 22, 2009 Game was intense, the swamp map for scavange is probably my favourite by a long shot. Probably a long shot, but there's a small chance it's a close thing. Good game, what I was there for. Nice job on bringing it back for the last Scavenge game, other team. Except Pirate. Screw you and your perpetually victorious turncoat ways. Lu Posted December 22, 2009 What can I say? I'm the glue that binds a team together. Haw haw haw. But yea, it was fun! Love versus and Scavenge. Played some Survival today and I don't like that nearly as much. Playing against AI feels unfulfilling. Also, hotdogs.
Moelman Posted December 23, 2009 Pirate did we end up winning today? Sorry I had to leave at the finale all, it was a great game.
Lu Posted December 23, 2009 Shame you had to leave, but indeed, we did! The finale ended up somewhat the same, with both groups wiping once the tank spawned. Played a bunch of Scavenge afterward. Quite fun as well!
Patters Posted December 28, 2009 Few good games, played Dead Center on realism with Scratch and a couple others. Prior to this, a few of us changed our usernames to Thumbs memes, me changing it to Nick Rodkin, for obvious reasons. Soon after this ended up in a case of mistaken identity with Jake: Jake: l4d2? Jake: haha Congrats Nick, I thought you were my brother Jake: who is named Nick Rodkin, and just got a new gaming laptop Nick Rodkin: sorry joke Jake: you are terrible. Jake: you are the worst Jake: i forgive you though Nick Rodkin: sory games Nick Rodkin: sorry Jake: so it goes Sorry Jake! I hope you get to play L4D with your Bro soon. Scratch Posted December 28, 2009 Yeah I didn't quite understand what you were saying when you tried to explain that conversation while ingame. But now it makes perfect sense. I blame Grippage for all the confusion though. He started the name changing confusion, with me dutifully following and others joining in soon after. Nevertheless, great games as usual. Kinda sad playing those scavenge games though, with the "unfairly" balanced teams. Not that I'm complaining, I got two achievements out of those games. James Posted December 29, 2009 I used to be more-or-less OK at L4D, but now I seem to be entirely awful almost all the time. Still, it's fun.

Scratch Posted January 13, 2010 Yeah, I haven't played it yet though. Wait does that mean, you have your new PC now? Sorry I haven't been on steam for a while now and haven't bothered to keep up. And hey General, finally made it over I see.
