SignorSuperdouche Posted October 6, 2009 So it seems awesome indie game developer Edmund McMillen had to have surgery recently. The silly bugger has no insurance and is asking for donations to help meet the costs. If you have played and enjoyed any of Ed's games, I hope you'll consider sending a bit of cash his way. toblix Posted October 6, 2009 I really want to donate a bit since I've enjoyed lots of his work, but all the links I find regarding this are either broken, or just a PayPal link to send money to some dude. Not to be an asshole or anything, but I'm not just sending money based on a tweet and a link. Is there any more info about this anywhere?
Nachimir Posted October 6, 2009 Tigsource put something up about it, many the indie developers I follow on twitter are mentioning it too. I donated. Possibly due to meeting him briefly, I deem Ed worth keeping alive.
Fuzzy Lobster Posted October 6, 2009 I'd never heard of him, but I just went and checked out his page. His stuff looks pretty great! Maybe I'll contribute a few and get Gish from steam.
Erkki Posted October 6, 2009 I would donate, if I hadn't already impulsively donated several amounts of money to Jason Rohrer
racingfreak92 Posted October 6, 2009 Im about to sound like an asshole, but i am one so.... Donating to Jason Rohrer seems much more worthwhile, i heard the interview with him on A Life Well Wasted. He has managed to narrow his expenses to a minimum and leads a very interesting, minimal life. This McMillen fellow fell ill, which is unfortunate, but thats why you have health insurance. I dont know why i should throw in my money to help him when he chose against insuring himself
subbes Posted October 7, 2009 I dont know why i should throw in my money to help him when he chose against insuring himself Y helo thar, you obviously don't live in the USA.
racingfreak92 Posted October 7, 2009 i do live in the US and yes i know out healthcare system is a joke but there is a big difference between having insurance and not having it
Nachimir Posted October 7, 2009 So people without insurance deserve to die penniless? Sure it's stupid not to have insurance, but proceeding from that with a libertarian stance helps nothing and noone. Also, since when are insurance companies anything but money grubbing immoral leeches? Who ever thought it would be a good idea to entrust healthcare to them? It's not just "bad", the American healthcare system is absolutely mental.
gdf Posted October 7, 2009 Who ever thought it would be a good idea to entrust healthcare to them? Nixon. I think that's pretty much all that needs to be said. Donating, he's a great developer, and he's always done a great job of representing for McMillen/McMillan/MacMillans everywhere.
Patters Posted October 7, 2009 Y helo thar, you obviously don't live in the USA. or he is 17 and doesn't understand the cost of living yet?

Garple Posted October 7, 2009 there is a big difference between having insurance and not having it Um. I guess that's correct. There's also a big difference between balloons and fish.
Nachimir Posted October 7, 2009 Massive difference between being a twatty libertarian troll and not being one, too
racingfreak92 Posted October 8, 2009 I do understand how costly medical bills can be even with insurance, ive had many family members go in and out of the hospital and they have been slapped with ridiculous bills. If this mans situation was that he was insured but was still screwed i would feel sorry because he did what he was supposed to but the system still got him. that would be a situation worth contributing to. but when he dosent even insure himself what can he expect? subbes Posted October 8, 2009 Um. I guess that's correct. There's also a big difference between balloons and fish. I have this balloon that looks like a fish
Lu Posted October 8, 2009 While you might have a balloon shaped fish, that technically doesn't qualify it as a fish. Therefor the comparison is still apples to oranges! They might look similar, but that doesn't mean they are!
Jake Posted October 8, 2009 My awesome idea: Let's not argue the merits of having health insurance or not, or the bullshit US health care system in this thread! Take it to its own thread, or take it somewhere else. If you want to donate, do, if you don't, then don't.
