vimes Posted July 17, 2008 I can't find the words to describe how surrealist this is : http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36747.html
ThunderPeel2001 Posted July 17, 2008 Hahaha! That's the best trailer ever. I've only seen it with the sound off, but it's hilarious! How amazingly crap.
Ginger Posted July 17, 2008 Four minutes long, i think they must have made the song before the trailer and were like right we've got 3 logos and this 4 minute long song that needs to play in its entirety, either that or they are comic geniuses of the highest order. I love when u can't tell if something is a joke.
Spaff Posted July 17, 2008 That is the best thing I've ever seen to come out of E3, what a piss take - this takes balls fucking genius.
elmuerte Posted July 17, 2008 so... it's not DN1, DN2 and DN3D for the NDS!?
Cigol Posted July 17, 2008 Clearly it's a joke, it's so amateurishly put together, but it outstayed its welcome for me; what was intiially funny ended up annoyingly pretentious and condescending.
Wrestlevania Posted July 17, 2008 That's so laughably shite I'm changing my avatar in its honour. It's the sort of pap I used to see at ECTS, playing away on endless loop in some dank corner of the show floor. Spectacularly arse.
Tanukitsune Posted July 17, 2008 I did hear Duke Nukem was coming to XBLA, maybe this is what the trailer is about?
Roderick Posted July 17, 2008 When I saw it earlier, after expecting the footage to come which didn't come, I turned it off quickly. What a despicable load of crap. I'd be pretty interested in Duke 1 and 2 on the DS, along with 3D. That's a good package. I'd like more PC platformers to make their way to the DS! Bio Menace and Halloween Harry. Or Commander Keen! ThunderPeel2001 Posted July 17, 2008 It's got nothing to do with the original DN games, does it?
DanJW Posted July 17, 2008 From what I can tell it is three new games made with the DN3D engine, set during WWII (I think they kind of take the piss out of revisionist Hollywood films - one features Duke "sinking the Bismark"). It's pretty funny that running alongside this video, the Massive Action Game and God of War 3 trailers both contained no real information about theit games at all. ThunderPeel2001 Posted July 17, 2008 As an aside, there is actual real gameplay footage of Duke Nukem Forever (aka Who Cares Anymore?) on 3D Realm's site. It's pretty, but um, after 12 years it'd have to be bowel-shattering for me to care.
Thrik Posted July 17, 2008 Is that with beardo (I think) playing? It did look pretty good.
Nachimir Posted July 17, 2008 That was awesome Though my attention started to wander at the 3:20 mark.
Spaff Posted July 17, 2008 it's liek the jokes that stops being funny and then becomes funny again because it goes on so long
Thrik Posted July 17, 2008 Here's the actual DNF gameplay footage for anyone who didn't see it (I forget if it was ever posted on bums or not): http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/226616.html
Wrestlevania Posted July 17, 2008 Looks identical to Prey, but with the game assets changed. A fact which I'm sure surprises no-one.
Thrik Posted July 17, 2008 I don't think it looks that much like Prey, other than having alien stuff. When I think of Prey I basically just think of a brighter version of Doom 3, while the footage above seems to be in a more real-world environment as you'd expect from Duke. Some classic Duke 3D weapons are used, which again make me think of Duke and not Prey. Beyond that most FPS games look superficially similar so it's hard to criticise it for looking reminiscent of another. One of the big things for Duke 3D was that it had lots of nice open city areas, so I'll be extremely disappointed if they don't do that in Forever too. Thematically Forever could still be interesting. PS: I assume you mentioned Prey because of the 3D Realms links. It might be worth clarifying that 3DR only published Prey, and that Human Head developed the actual game. It was also on the Doom 3 engine (ID Tech 4), whereas Forever is on Unreal. Roderick Posted July 17, 2008 I just saw the Duke trailer a second time and I finished watching it and I take back everything I said. This is comedy genius
Wrestlevania Posted July 17, 2008 I assume you mentioned Prey because of the 3D Realms links. No, I mentioned Prey because that's exactly what the footage reminded me of; glossy surfaces everywhere, lots of overbright lighting, the way the HUD overlay looks and apparently works, and that little two-legged beastie running around towards the end. I'm not slagging either game off particularly, it just doesn't appear to be what I was expecting (hoping for?) from the new Nukem. DN3D was quite toned down in its effects and settings--for aesthetic reasons, not strictly hardware ones. DNF has a towering great mutant plant type thing in one scene, all slick skin and teeth; another echo of Prey in my opinion. I'd just like to see Duke running around the streets shooting pig cops and smearing jetpack'd aliens across the outside of cinema walls again. I'm bored senseless of the obsessive outer space / space marine themes in a lot of current shooters and would like DNF to be more about present day Earth as we know it being levelled. It was my favourite thing about the original, the fact the locales were actually something you could relate to. Yes, we've run around stuff like that before, but not for a long time now--and certainly not during the current generation (as best as I can recall). Moreover, wasn't that the whole point of Duke Nukem as a character; a marauding meathead everyman superhero archetype? He could still be that in outer space, but I don't care about outer space - I want to be saving Earth as some foul-mouthed, pea-brained bulge of testosterone. I just hope 3D Realm's embraces that and doesn't squander the series' history in favour of The New Shiny-Shiny, i.e. lots of cheap visual effects facilitated by ridiculous environments. ThunderPeel2001 Posted July 18, 2008 Agreed. It's looks tremendously generic and unexciting. Duke's most memorable scenes took place in "real life" environments.
Thrik Posted July 18, 2008 At the end of the day though, it's just a tiny clip that could be from any part of the game. Bear in mind that Duke 3D also had lots of environments like this, not only in the areas where 'real-world' indoor areas had been overrun by aliens (that appears to be what's depicted in the footage above), but also in the entire chapter set in space. Considering that the 2001 iteration of Forever had loads of city footage, and it real-world setting was one of the strongest aspects of Duke 3D, I really can't imagine them scrapping it.
