The hardest platform game ever

My favourite games magazine Edge posted about a weird Japanese game, based on Super Mario Bros but has an almost endless assortment of ingenious ways of making you die.

Having just spent 30 fucking lives getting through the first level, I'd be inclined to agree that the sheer number of ways you can die is inspiring. After a while I was just laughing at how ridiculous they were, as it's almost a complete mockery of the conventions you expect from a platform game — and especially Mario!

This game can fuck off. Over 290 lives before I beat all four levels.

Towards the end I was actually laughing out loud, although whether that was due to the death ingenuity or sheer insanity I'm not sure.

Stuck in the same place as Thunderpeel, but it took me about 15 lives to get there instead of 10. How the hell do you get past that thing?

Yeah. There's a whole subgenre of these games, as the above link points out. The first one I remember was flash but ASCII based. It was weird and ridiculously hard. I'd rather play Ikaruga.

You have to jump over the flag pole and then jump onto it.

The later levels really do make the first one look easy, though. It looks like you guys are better than me, but jesus christ. I have now played the hardest game in my entire life.
