Thrik Posted April 14, 2008 My favourite games magazine Edge posted about a weird Japanese game, based on Super Mario Bros but has an almost endless assortment of ingenious ways of making you die. Having just spent 30 fucking lives getting through the first level, I'd be inclined to agree that the sheer number of ways you can die is inspiring. After a while I was just laughing at how ridiculous they were, as it's almost a complete mockery of the conventions you expect from a platform game — and especially Mario! Well worth giving a go: http://www.geocities.jp/z_gundam_tanosii/home/Main.html (click second link) It doesn't require installation, but you do need to download it. ThrikCheck™ gives it the A-OK! If you can complete the first level in less than 30 lives you're a better gamer than me. PS: I've no idea how old this is, but I've never seen it so clearly lots of other people haven't either. Thrik Posted April 14, 2008 Edited. I'm at -160 bloody lives after finishing level two. And my hand hurts from hitting my desk a few times.
brkl Posted April 14, 2008 Super Mario is too hard for me.
Thrik Posted April 14, 2008 This game can fuck off. Over 290 lives before I beat all four levels. Towards the end I was actually laughing out loud, although whether that was due to the death ingenuity or sheer insanity I'm not sure.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted April 14, 2008 This is brilliant! So hilariously evil! Got to the end of lvl1 with 10 lives, but a baddie always kills me before I reach the castle?
Noyb Posted April 15, 2008 In a similar vein, there's I Wanna Be the Guy, which is like a mashup of all the old Nintendo games, only crueler. I like you guys too much to actually give you the link to such an evil, masochistic game, so here's the start of a youtube series where you can literally see the player start to go slowly insane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ifS4BhrNmI Also, an interesting writeup/roundup on these "masocore" games. http://www.auntiepixelante.com/?p=
miffy495 Posted April 15, 2008 Stuck in the same place as Thunderpeel, but it took me about 15 lives to get there instead of 10. How the hell do you get past that thing?
n0wak Posted April 15, 2008 Yeah. There's a whole subgenre of these games, as the above link points out. The first one I remember was flash but ASCII based. It was weird and ridiculously hard. I'd rather play Ikaruga. (Oh. duh. He links to it: http://blog53.fc2.com/k/king75/file/owata.html with the ASCII Pedobear and all)
Thrik Posted April 15, 2008 You have to jump over the flag pole and then jump onto it. The later levels really do make the first one look easy, though. It looks like you guys are better than me, but jesus christ. I have now played the hardest game in my entire life.
