Medieval II Total War (hey strategy types!)

Anyone else out there playing Medieval II Total War or the recently released Rome Total War conversion mod Europa Barbarorum whose 0.8 version was also just released?

Or is everyone here all "Wiiiiiii!" or something? :shifty:

I know someone who's playing Medieval II. How's that? (Not very good.)

I can at least attest to the fact that the collector's edition is hugely impressive. (For once.)

I like my little Latinikon guy, although I really do wish they would include printable tech trees and unit trees for all the factions on the install CD though (Turkish recruitment is a bit of a magical mystery tour).

Shogun never really grabbed me and as such the Total War games have always kinda been off my radar. I'll admit that seeing that box set and remembering review scores tempted me, but then I thought about whether I'd ever really play it and resisted. Has the formula been drastically changed/improved since the early days or is it still basically the same game? If it's been switched around in a slightly more involving way, I may try and get into it in the near future.

No, I'm more "Objection!" and "Take that, computer controlled opponent in the game Flatout 2!" and "Although I find Link's Awakening fun to play, the parts in between dungeons are more fun with a walkthrough." and "Contact was pretty disappointing." and "Yay, I just took my last exam ever!"

In fact, I just had an idea: the next Zelda game I'm playing, I'll draw up a map and make notes on it, so that I can come back to places later when I've got the gizmo that lets me pass the whatever is in the way or hole in the ground.

Oh man, I've never seen anything like Ms Blitzman before, I encourage everyone to try it.

I felt it reminded me of one of those old games... Space Invaders?

Greatly delayed reply!

From Rome Total War onwards there has been a more "realistic" strategic map, instead of the Risk-like one in Shogun and Medieval Total War. I find this radically changes the way your strategies have to develop since things like the Alps and massive steppes and straits become serious barriers.

The mods to look out for Rome: Total War (Gold edition) are...

http://www.lotrtw.com/ - imagine if EA made a LOTRs RTS worth playing (a 2nd version compatible with Gold and BI is on the way)

http://www.stratcommandcenter.com/chivalry/index.html - Medieval II for people without nuclear-powered PCs

The best mod for RTW 1.5 is Europa Barbarorum! I have a link in my signature-block. I hear that the LotR one and Chivalry are pretty darn good though, however I really find Europa Barbarorum to be something special.
