Wrestlevania Posted December 8, 2006 Not to kick Sony whilst they're down, but Gamasutra's swinging its size 9's anyway: Market influence analytics company Cymfony has published a new report finding that a majority of consumers are vocally supporting HD-DVD over Blu-ray, citing Sony's support for Blu-ray as a leading cause for concern. The study, which aggregated nearly 18,000 blog posts and forum discussions amongst gamers and videophiles, found HD-DVD, currently supported with an add-on to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console, had a clear edge amongst consumers, with a greater percentage of positive posts and a smaller percentage of negative posts than Blu-ray, the default next-gen media format included in Sony's PlayStation 3. miffy495 Posted December 9, 2006 Yeah, while I can see the above effect being true, taking the statements of fanboys on forums in aggregate is probably not the best way to figure out consumer trends.
twmac Posted December 10, 2006 But I was having a drunken conversation about this while me and a friend walked around a Future shop (a bit like gamley's but with more electronics and no real kids toys unless you count DVD cleaners). He pointed out somehting I'd never really thought about. In laymen's terms 'HD-DVD' sounds a lot like 'DVD' only longer, and possibly cooler. I don't know if this is true, but the buzz-word 'backwards compatible' came up. And I was given the impression that people would be able to watch their DVDs on one of these drives. DanJW Posted December 10, 2006 Heh, true, it's common knowledge that most media technology is driven by porn; printing, cinema, VHS, home video cameras, digital cameras and cam-camcorders, mobile phone cameras, THE INTERNET... Chances are the first ever cave paintings were of a couple of stick figures getting it on. Possibly with a buffalo.

miffy495 Posted December 11, 2006 Dear god, just think where home theater technology would be without Troma movies and the Porn industry. ...and cavemen fucking on walls. Whatever. twmac, I've found that the best way to explain Future Shop to non-Canadians is "What they call Best Buy to try and fool us."
